Karl Kasarda of InRangeTV's workout routine. It should be mentioned that this kind of training is more for the overall well being, to stay healthy and gain some endurance and a little strength, which is perfectly fine if you want to achieve some basic fitness. However, if you expect to gain serious muscle/strength or endurance from this kind of training you will be disappointed. This does not build legs and backs that can dead lift 220+ kg or shoulders capable of clean and strict press 100kg + - or endurance that allows you to do like 100km in 2.5 hours on the bike. Not even close. I'm not saying this because I simply want to bash this kind of training, no, I say this because there is a mind-boggling amount of people out there spending years with that kind of training thinking they're turning themselves into ultra buff strong supermen with tons of endurance. Thats not the right training for those goals and people inevitably wind up extremely disappointed.

Wow, the new axle press record by Eddie Hall, who is currently the strongest man on earth. Hard to believe that this guy used to be a professional swimmer.
Thats 217kg or 478lbs (turn down the volume, its LOUD)

Did pull ups today. Didn't do pull ups for a year now but actually managed to do 9 in a row in my first set, after dead lifts and squats. Not an earth-shattering number by any means but considering my non-existing practice and high body weight I'm pleasantly surprised. Felt great too, I have to do them more often.
By the way, why is this place so empty and desolate, nobody in here doing any sports? Share your suffering! :gentleman:

I would but this being a weightlifting thread and me finding weights boring, I figured it would be best I stay out.
Boxing with some cycling and running thrown into the mix are how I stay fit and even then I really only do the other two because I love fighting.

I really dislike doing legs. But after seeing a vet in my gym, who lost his leg below the knee, it has motivated me to do something with my legs. I have two good functioning legs, better make use of them and be blessed with what I have. The vet has been at my gym for a month, does at least 5 days a week and has made some amazing gains on his upper body.

If you do not like doing legs remember that any leg exercise with free weights also heavily trains the core, which is required for heavy dead lifts, bench presses and overhead presses. I'm not a huge fan of leg exercises but it does boost performance in my favorite lifts which makes it much more tolerable. Doing legs with machines plain sucks though.

Funny thing is, legs is my best body part. I can do a half ass work out and still gain size and strength. Any other body part done half assed and I wouldn't gain anything. I do leg presses and seated leg extensions. I won't do squats. I don't like the weight on my shoulders, feels like its crushing you which freaks me out. I'm slowly easing back into deadlifts. Slowly. After injuring my lower back last year, as the old saying goes, once bitten twice shy.

I understand that an injury makes you a little afraid of any free weight exercises, but squats is a great exercise to fix the lower back. A back injury is a good reason to focus on free weight compound exercises because those are great to fix injuries and restore balance. With Barbell squats form is very easy to maintain since when you round your back you tip over. The risk for lower back injuries when doing squats is low and the benefits of that exercise very high. If the weight feels heavy on your back you need to pull your shoulders back and puff your chest, that way you create a muscle cushion between your shoulder blades on which the barbell rests. Failing to do that will result in one hell of a bruise if you go beyond 130kg. And as always, if you feel like the weight will crush you, you have not the confidence to move that much weight, back up with the plates a little bit and gradually increase the weight. If you still feel uneasy with squats do box squats:

I started doing these workouts as recommended by Lethwei champ Dave Leduc (whose knuckles are big as heck) in order to straighten my fingers, knuckles and wrists. For those of you that don't know what Lethwei is, it's one of the most brutal martial arts are there, and uses not only fists, knees, elbows and feet/shins but headbutting to boot (hence it being called "the art of the 9 limbs".

So much for lowering military fitness standards because women cant keep up with men. Women can be amazingly strong and fit - if they put the proper work into it.

And this, Ladies and Gentlemen, is why you don't do steroids. (on top of the 50+ other reasons why you shouldn't do drugs at all) Steroids make big muscles FAST but your tendons can't keep up and they will take many years of hard training to get strong. Now with normal training without drugs everything develops with equal speed and you don't tear tendons like that - if you lift with proper form.
Also, don't flare elbows like that, ever.

I most certainly do not lift, but I chimed in just to confirm that steroids are bad, and cause all kinds of problems to your body, acromegaly being one of them: Acromegaly on Wikipedia
That is all, continue lifting.

I just lift our work equipment. Probably sweat 5lbs today, maybe more. Just another day in the Georgia heat and humidity.
It is a full body workout. The cable weighs 88lbs per 100'. We pull them into circles, essentially a rowing motion. It is a dead weight pull over whatever terrain, but the weight decreases as the length shortens into the coil. There is a skill to it as well, you want uniform circles not concentric rings, so you have to adjust your pull as you go to keep it neat.
Then the coil must be "stood up" so it can be tied. There are two tie points, so that the connectors can overlap and be tied tightly into a safe coil with no dangling bits that can hit you in the shin, balls, tits, face... unpleasant.
We run these cables in phased runs of 5 cables (usually) parallel to each other, and the run goes out anywhere from 100' to 600' (beyond that we need to change to higher voltage and use a transformer). There are branches on these runs, and each branch is terminated with a 60lb aluminum distribution box full of copper bus bars, wiring, and breaker housings. Along with that box, there is a 40lb container of smaller amperage distribution terminators, a 60lb tub of extension cords (we call them stingers) and compliment of four 35lb distribution cables (50') used to feed the smaller terminators and two 70lb distro cables (100' length ea).
So each distro point weighs about 500lbs, which includes a few other pieces of gear not worth boring you with more description.
Today we wrapped 9 distro points (9x500= 4500lbs) 875' of heavy cable (5x88x8.75= 3850lbs) and probably another 1000lbs of other gear not included in above description. We only made the coils of cables once, but then each piece of equipment/cable was loaded into a cart, and eventually picked up again out of the cart to be put down in bins on our 48' trailer.
So, we wrapped 3850 of dead weight. That is one exercise, analogous to bent over/seated row. Tied it, put in cart, took out of cart and into bin. Thats dead lift/snatch, 11,550lbs. Another 9000lbs of dead lift, snatch, and occasionally clean with some of the 60lb stinger tubs onto high shelves.
Final numbers:
3850lbs row 20550lbs dead lift with some snatch/clean. This is less than actual by a fair amount, but illustrative of an average easy day. We have been walking about 11mi a day on this show while we put down/pickup our rigs.
Today there were 5 of us, in the rain. Fairly equal load lifted by each individual. Took 7 hours of ass-busting, but we wanted to get out of the weather.
We are strong. One of our guys is a powerlifter, and we're mostly an athletic bunch, but the average age of this crew today was about 40, including the 25yo powerlifter. I am 48 for a couple more weeks.
Exercise is good. Stay hydrated!

I find basic weight training does already toughen up hands pretty well, not to the extend of boxing training mind you, but it still works. Having to hold several hundred pounds / kilograms in 5 training sessions a week does work the muscles in your palms really well, my hands got pretty hard and tight from all the lifting. I always notice it when I shake hands, other peoples hands feel so frighteningly soft and delicate, with so little substance, no matter the gender.

Regarding the Lethwei video -
The pushups are all good conditioning. Don't do the jumping fist pushups, skip the jumping.
He didn't do Tiger Claw pushups correctly.
Every martial art uses a headbutt...
In short, the video is short, and isn't terrible. It showcases the mentality of most Muay Thai fighters, which is about doing damage. Damage to themselves, damage to others.
In Chinese martial art, we condition our hands too. Different pushups (with better form), conditioning in sand/BB's/against wood. The key missing ingredient in that video is Iron Palm medicine aka Hit Wine.
A proper Hit Wine will prevent blood clot formation after conditioning your hands/elbows/forearms/shins. This increases circulation to the area it is applied to, which generally leads to better and faster healing.
I like that guy, looks like a fighter. Will not live to old age.
