Baldur's Gate I & II - Gather your party before venturing forth

Now I really feel old  

Trying to get back into playing the first one.  I have both the classic and EE versions.  I prefer the EE version cause when at higher resolution the characters don't disappear.  I am enjoying the game.  I like these old school rpg's.   But currently I am at Beregost with Khalid, the druid, the chaotic evil dwarf and mage.  My character is a Paladin.  I am having trouble killing some spiders in a home in Beregost, that belongs to a person that rooms at the "Friendly Arm Inn." 

Yep, my Paladin is Cavalier.  I forgot to buy potions.  I will do that thanks!  As for my companions I am waiting for some type of conflict.

I got the EE version on Steam. My old five discs-in-cardboard-foldout thingy has long since been scratched to death through over two decade's worth of use.

Pretty sure the toons used to be less... "pixelly", and I can't stand anyone of the followers except the monk.

When BG2 came out I remember being disappointed about how "spacey"/sci-fi I thought armor and architecture suddenly looked. Never got used to that, but still, I liked the BG2 story better.

You'll probably want to consult the Beamdog forums, since not all mods may be compatible with EE.

Sounds nice, thanks for the info and other websites, I just bought the EE editions of the two games plus dragonspear on GOG sales. It will be fun.

I'm slowly still trying to get through BG I for the first time ever.  Not because the game is old I'm old, and not because the graphics don't care.  But because I had forgotten how tough old school rpg's are.  There have been a couple of tough fights like the spiders in the house in Beregost.  Also since the game is old I know the big revelation I know who the main character is.  But that doesn't deter me, in fact it opens up role play options.  I am still currently stuck in Beregost I have picked up some side quests, but since I am still level 1 I'm afraid to do them.  Also should I head to that place that starts with an "N"  where the mines are?  You know where the druid and her husband want to go to?

Okay, I'll try that.  I have a question where do companions you dismissed go when no longer in service?  For example an npc offered their services in Beregost I said no thanks, cause I did not know where dismissed companions go.  Now I can't locate him.  So for future reference I would like to know.  I am playing the EE version of Baldur's Gate I if that helps.

To add to what Iakus said, I think most of the non EE companions just stay in the spot where you dismiss them. Sometimes they disappear from the game if you reject their initial request to join your party too, just as an fyi.

Oh well if I find somebody I think I might recruit later on, I will recruit them when they first offer.
