Yeah I know I ended up killing Viconia just because she s and evil character and didn't give me much choice lol.Pretty happy with my team anyway if im honest got a cleric, mage, thief and a fighter alongside my ranger. Minsc is a ranger as well so I would have had to sacrifice Branwen or Neera to make room and I couldn't be bothered to do that. Well she didn't leave me much choice, it was either her or the poor soldier who came out to arrest her. Not going to lie I enjoyed killing her as well. Branwen seemed pleased!

My next BG II game I may actually use Viconia. SHe's evil, but should be interesting taking her into the Underdark.

Coran usually have a bad adventure too. I don't think I've ever had him in my party, like not even by accident. Same with Saphina or Serena, or whatever her name is who's his girlfriend.

I had him in my party the first time I played I think...but afterward, just too whinny so I either let him dry out after dealing with his "boss" or take him for a little stroll in the forest. The game should really give you negative reputation for purposely killing party members.

Durlag's tower, what a pain in the ass that place was. Im on chapter 7 and spoke to a few npc's who mentioned this place so thought it would be a good place to go to level up my characters more...
Spent the last few days inching through, floor by floor. I was either getting killed by the various traps or the ambushes (mostly spiders and army if Skelton archers). That place was a nightmare to traverse, Imoen trap detection and trap disabling was pretty bad neaning I often triggered various traps (I've really come to hate those bloody spiders webs that completely disables you).
Had to actually switch to Story mode difficulty for the chess board bit, because my team just kept running forward and getting killed. Finally finished that place, xp, gold and items were nice but the dungeon itself was a bit of a slog to get through

That was DLC content back in the day. Edit: final boss is hella gimicky too.

All my characters are level 7 or above and I believe have good equipment for the most part. The biggest danger has been abilities that render people incapacitated (usually more than 1 team mate) like the spider Web traps or the fear/confusion spells.on of my characters has the ring that gives free movement and bypasses those annoying webs. I had a sword that did the same thing but ended up selling it because no one in my party uses 2 handed swords

I've been plowing through BG1 and BG2 with my custom party as intended: like a wrecking ball. Which is great, cause that's kinda the point of making a custom party, isn't it? I have done all major quests (I think) in chapter 2 and have just started chapter 3. Was a little 'worried' I would not be able to do Firkraag and Kangaxx, mostly because I didn't have access to level 6 mage spells yet (because everyone is a multiclass). But, as it turns out, Firkraag is just as vulnerable to cloudkill as the other dragons. I cast farsight with the cleric to get him in sight and emptied a wand of cloudkill. Started buffing when he was badly wounded (he'll fully heal himself at near death) than ran in with my 2 poison immune melee fighters and the others just pelted him from range. Was still a very close fight though as he immediatly dispelled everything, making my buffing kinda pointless. Having Carsomyr and picking up the Staff of the Magi later, Kangaxx turned out be a breeze. All Hail the mighty Mustard Jelly and the Berserker's immunity to imprisonment.

Rogues are handy in the tower for trap handling. Remove Fear is good for the fear effects (especially if you have a Cavalier, as they get it as an ability). If you have Minsc, his Berserk effect makes him temporarily immune to fear and confusion effects, but if he doesn't have an enemy to fight, he might turn on the party in his rage.

I think I'm going to abandon the run again and then do what I should have always done: just edit the regular companions to something similar, but better. Something like this: Minsc - Berserker, Half Orc instead of Human Korgan - Dwarven Defender Jaheira - no change, except for ability scores Viconia - Cleric/Mage Imoen - Fighter/Mage/Thief, Half Elf But, I dunno, might also pick up the other run again, because Gorion's Ward wouldn't end up as the ridiculous 24 strength-without-belts and equally ridiculous base constistution. Oh well

I've finished Baldurs gate 1 along with the siege of dragonspear expansion. Was a little apprehensive about siege of dragonspear as a read a lot of negativity around it online so my expectation was low. Thankfully it turned out a lot better than I thought that while it was more linear than Baldurs gate 1 it was also more focused plot wise.
I had assumed that black pits was the next expansion to the game, but it seems like that isn't the case and uts merely its own standalone content. Dont think I will invest time in this doc as it adds nothing to the plot. Still I was going to import my character from siege of dragonspear but it looks like that isn't possible?

Yeah seems that way, I was hoping to use it just to level up my characters a bit more but for some reason wasn't able to import them. I wonder if you can import a character from the black pits in BG1 though? Might be a good way to quickly level up a character, get some decent items and magic and start a BG1 playthrough. Might actually try than after I complete my BG2 playthrough. For now I'm trying to delay that though as I have now ordered the Icewind dale/planescape torment bundle. I'm thinking I'm going to play Icewind dale before I start BG2.

Myself, I play with an NPC mod for banters and such www.pocketplane.net/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=174&Itemid=122Planescape: Torment is the exact opposite. It's HEAVILY story based (hope you like reading!) and plays quite differently from other D&D games, as the system has been seriously modified for that game. That being said, it is arguably one of the greatest RPGs ever made. Lots of oddball characters, twists to the story, and the question "What can change the nature of the man" is deeper and more relevant than it may seem.

Myself, I play with an NPC mod for banters and such The first time I played the IWD games I wasn't impressed, it was just a bunch of hack and slash that barely allowed me to remember the story. They were much better with the NPC mods, though I had problems with the characters there as well. At least they had personality and goals of their own.

Yeah I've read planescape is the best of the lot at least story wise so I think I will leave that 1 last. The common opinion I have read is that Icewind dale is better than BG1 but not quite as good as BG2.

Icewind Dale is far more combat-focused than Baldur's Gate. You build yourself a party, start in a tavern, and go. Hmm unfortunately there are no mods that I can use for Icewind dale (being on console and all that). Personally I have found BG1 to have a fairly thin story and there wasn't much party interaction save for some of the new characters (though that was much improved with siege of dragonspear).
