I'm sold, but i am hoping Beamdog can do a better job with this than the enhanced stuff for Baldurs Gate. Just the fact that Avellone is in on it, is good enough.

GoG sent me an email that, since I have the original through them, I'll get a 30% discount for the Enhanced Edition I received one as well but the offer is up until the 04/04 or something like this... I don't know how I feel about buying Torment again mainly to get a better resolution (and I guess better quality of the soundtrack) as much as I didn't want Beamdog to touch much, I was wishing for better combat or at least a new difficulty because the combat in Torment is a massive chore. Also companions dying is a pain. So this new edition doesn't solve any issue I had with the main game and why I stopped playing.

Got the same email.
However... I'm still stuck endlessly starting BG1 and giving up at random points before I get to BG2 (which is what I really want to play.)
Naturally I feel any character I want to play for BG2 needs to be played through BG1 though... So.
Vicious cycle. >.< Finished with a Half Orc Fighter/Cleric but didn't feel like something I wanted to import to BG2. Started two different Archers, one of which is almost done BG1. An evil human Berserker, a Wild Mage... Assassin... Shadowdancer...
Just can't get something to stick. First playthrough ever (back when the games were released) I played an Avenger. Given how much of a shaft the druids got (let alone that specific kit) I can see now why my game was so bloody hard, but rewarding. I've wanted to play an evil group for a while now, Dorn/Viconia/Hexxat (Maaaaybe Edwin) but I've wanted a strong canon party to go through BG2. /shrug
***
I never played the original Torment, or rather I played about 20 minutes of it, got sick and went back to something else. Sort of a regret. Given the difficulty I have in playing those games now, but the immense nostalgia I have for them, I wish I had given it a better chance at the time. Everything I hear about it makes me want to play it, or more specifically I can see my younger self loving it. My tastes have changed significantly since then. Less turn based strat and more... well. ME3MP.
Might give the EE version a buy, no clue when I'll have a chance to try though. The genre and EE versions of the games are one of the few games I'm willing to pony up the cash for with very little hesitation. I like supporting the development of more even if they're nominally "sitting on my shelf".
I particularly want IWD2. I really sunk my teeth into that game. Played a Fighter and a Sorcerer. Half orc, and an old human sorc. Made up all sorts of interesting tales those two went through along the way. Witty banter, the gritty grouchy half orc and the sarcastic yet charming old man. I also felt extremely compelled by the enemies, to the point I wanted to be on their side. Creating an army of outcasts from all across the north, many with rather valid grudges no less? Sign me up! The way XP was divided felt much more gratifying working with a smaller party of only two as well. Albeit the end boss(es) were significantly more of a challenge. My strategical inclination has always been to quality over quantity.
Don't think they'll make it as they've stated there are massive challenges and impediments to IWD2 that don't exist elsewhere in the Infinity Engine series. But I can wish.
I'm sure I'll get to it... right after I beat Irenicus to death with a stick. (And maybe play ToB...)

I guess the world graphics haven't been upgraded? I've played PST with a widescreen mod and it really didn't age gracefully, even compared to BG1. That the interface has been remastered is nice, but I don't know if it will be a significant improvement as you play, now that we have even bigger monitors and the original version's whole screen would fit 12 times into my current monitor's resolution.
Having said that, if you haven't played the original and can take the old graphics and the fact that you must read a lot of dialogue that isn't voiced and even some description, IMO PST is still unsurpassed in dialogue complexity and storytelling in an RPG 18 years after it was made. It's approach to morality is also unique, with the different incarnations and their personalities you come to know.

But mostly they've left stuff alone, yeah. There will also be a feature where you can turn the "Enhnaced" features off and play it in its original state.

I had a hard time playing Planescape Torment. In my book I finish a game when I finish it on the highest difficulty, so while I finished the story I didn't finish the game. The gameplay is a slog and the game didn't age gracefully, but the story from about halfway point becomes REALLY good, if you can tolerate the gameplay.

I'm eyeing this one and Tides of Numenera (never played the original). My only concern is: do these games take themselves too seriously? The vibe I get from what I've read is that it's all deep and philosophical. I don't want them to descend into edge or stuffy pretentiousness.
People who played them, what can you tell me? Do the games give you a break every once in a while?

It does deal with issues like abandonment, betrayal, the greater good, and ultimately "What does one life matter"? Planescape: Torment...can be. I mean yeah it's pretty philosophical, with the question of human nature and whether someone can really change being central to the story. But yes it can definitely "give you a break". There is humor in the game. Sometimes dark, sometimes screwy. If you want lighter fare, have Morte in the group. His comments and banter (especially with Annah, Nordom, and Falls-from-Grace) are pretty hilarious

They both are great and creative, but... I dunno, Numenera just get's too weird and senseless in places. The odd only really works if it's coupled with the familiar. For the EE I just hope Beamdog doesn't touch the writing... at all. Still, it's an instant buy, and not only because the original is my favorite game of all time, and it comes out on my birthday.

Planescape: Torment has a unique tone and it would be impossible to add significant content to the game without changing that voice. Besides Chris Avellone's additions and edits to the text, we haven't changed any of the original Planescape: Torment content. Gameplay aside, we've added significant quality of life improvements to the user interface of this classic game. Scroll to the bottom of this FAQ for a larger list of improvements.

THey changed teh UI in a patch that came out at the same time as Dragonspear, but they've already said teh UI to PSTEE will be updated.
