DISCLAIMER: I am not the original author of these builds (If the original author comes forward, I will gladly hand over the thread/build/whatever). I do not receive any karma, kickbacks or ad revenue from posting these here. I am merely trying to preserve some of the DAIMP builds that were originally posted on BSN. This is for informational purposes and discussion. Feel free to comment, discuss and post your own builds on this thread. (I am not a moderator) TankMage Note: I have used this build and have really enjoyed it. Just watching things take more and more damage, I can see why so many play this class. da-skills.net/#Archer/1,D1C,110,01100,011,B1a,1;1,010,110,00000,000 Abilities Leaping Shot (Evade Ability. 12 Projectiles at 50% weapon damage each. 12s cooldown. 35 Stamina cost. Upgrade gives your next shot a 200% damage bonus and knocks the target down) Long Shot (200% weapon damage with +600% at 15+ meters. 8s cooldown. 50 stamina cost. Detonates incapacitated foes. Upgrade lets you hit multiple targets with bonus damage that are behind your first) Full Draw (800% weapon damage + 800% if target is at full health. 24s cooldown, 65 Stamina cost. Upgrade puts target to sleep for 20s) Mark of Death (Stores 100% damage while active, then deals it when activated again (effectively doubling all damage for 8s). 32s cooldown, 10 stamina cost. Upgrade grants 20% armor reduction.) Passives First Blood (15% damage to enemies with more than 80% of their health remaining. +3 dexterity) Cheap Shot (Critical hits sunder armor for 6s. +3 cunning) Bloodied Prey (10% damage bonus to all enemies who have less health than you. +3 cunning) Strafing Shots (100% Speed Bonus when firing. +3 Dexterity) Pincushion (Each consecutive hit on a target does 5% more damage each time for 10s. +3 dexterity) Gaps in the Armor (25% Armor Penetration. +3 dexterity Fury of the Storm - (10% damage bonus when under 50% stamina. +3 constitution) Cripple - (slows enemies hit from behind by 50% for 3s. +3 dexterity) Dance of Death (+50 stamina on kill. +3 dexterity) Unlock OrderGet Leaping Shot and Long Shot upgraded first (level 5), then go straight to Full Draw, then Mark of Death (level 11). Get Dance of Death (level 14), then Pincusion. Then fill out the rest of your points as you desire. I also upgrade MoD, but not full draw. Strategy
Lead the fight with Full draw to immediately take out the highest value target (dual wield rogues, Fear Demon, Brutes, Templar Knights), then target the ranged units with Long Shot. If melee units get too close then just pop a Leaping shot and knock them down with the follow up. Leaping Shot is also great vs Shield Bearers and Demons (as they cannot block). When the Demon Commanded uses his Fear attack, Leaping shot will clear you of its radius. I use this skill while Long shot is on cooldown. Long Shot will ricochet off enemies and hit ones behind them. For long shot to hit multiple enemies, the 2nd hit does not need to be directly behind the 1st. Long shot deals progressively higher damage for each successive target, meaning you can kill several enemies with 1 shot this way. For Pride Demons, Behemoths, Guardians and Bosses, Mark of Death will help take these guys down incredibly quickly. Lead the fight with one, follow up with Full Draw and some auto attacks, then when the boss drops below 50% health, activate MoD again and watch your target die. For Bosses, just let it run out. You won't be able to kill them in 1 cycle of course, so its best to have them absorb as much damage as possible first.

Is this why I keep seeing archers running with full draw? This was written up pre-nerfs wasn't it?

Still works great for me. It probably was written about a year ago. I missed some information on that I guess, but there are a lot of new players or returning players.

Is this why I keep seeing archers running with full draw? This was written up pre-nerfs wasn't it? Yes it was pre-nerf. I used it when I first started (after nerf) and got myself killed really quick with long shot. Then I asked on the forum and everyone said "DO NOT take long shot." LOL. But I think many still use the Full Draw with Tez's Bane. It is fun to blow things up and have meat chunks everywhere. Most people I think take spike trap, explosive shot and leaping shot.

I really didn't care much for Explosive Shot, unless I was missing something impressive. Long Shot hits multiple enemies and gets more oomph per hit. Is this a high vs. low promote issue? All these builds seem to be meant for Threatening/Perilous. I was mostly eager just to get some builds on the site. I wanted to stir some discussion so we (the newer players) can learn some simpler mechanics. Also, it would get some more searches to lead people to the board (hopefully).

Both long shot and explosive shot are decent for different reasons. I use to use long shot but not much anymore. Explosive shot's strength comes in its knockdown and inability to be blocked by anything including spearmen. With the upgrade, the damage is pretty good when used on a group of enemies. Also, the game's tooltip doesn't accurately mention that explosive shot always hits twice for physical and fire damage. Long shot is great for long corridor maps such as FC or the chateau. However, once you use it, you gain tons of aggro and will be attacked by any standing enemies. Also worth mentioning that long shot should only ever be taken with its upgrade. My opinion on the archer is that it is a squishy character. Therefore, generating lots of aggro probably isn't good unless you know you can handle it. I much prefer the build Lcneed mentioned with spike traps. With spike traps, you can fairly easily protect yourself from sneaky stealthed rogues or other enemies that are following you. Also, once I got the Hakkon bow, my play style for the archer changed from a ranged character to a mid to close combat character due to the bow's excellent damage up close. So, long shot became less usable and spike traps/leaping shot became better for me. But, the only way you will find the best build for you is to try a few ideas and see what works for your own individual basis

I still use long shot for cross class combo. Shatter/discharge multiple targets with long shot is both fun and powerful. To me explosive shot is more of crowd-control than doing damage. It's useful for knocking down ranged attackers from a distance like archers and mages. As Terrell has mentioned, because of its fire damage it also works great on despair demon Once your critical chance goes up, try taking these 2 passives: opportunity knocks and "looked like it hurt", which I don't see in the build in OP. With high enough critical chance, archer can basically spam abilities like leaping shots and long shot.

Explosive arrows with a Explosive Shot? The damage numbers are difficult to count. Of course, every other shot with Elgar'nan is weak enough to make you question your life choices, but, hey, it's fun!

Explosive shot also won't miss and doesn't draw any aggro. And it is really good for stealing kills. That pact belt AW almost killed off that group of guys there... bang...all your base are belong to us! Also Explosive shot is really good for skill spamming. It has very short animation and with OK and LLIH you could solo spam Explosive shots every 2 seconds. Putting in Leaping Shot sometime take too long. And Leaping shot miss a lot unless you are very close. Again Explosive shot doesn't miss unlike Full Draw or Leaping Shot. Not sure about Long Shot... haven't tried it since the first days of my archering.

Long Shot + Caltrops + Leaping Shot Explosive Shot +
Opportunity knocks and Look like it Hurts passives.
With high cunning or full critical chance upgrades, you can spam everything.
Long Shot draws lots of aggro, but it's too fun to stop. I always have I carpet of caltrops waiting for them.

But no spike trap? I don't think I could give up spike traps. With spike traps and upgraded caltrops, it is like instant death circle around you so much fun.

Why to use either of them when you can spam Leaping shot. Throwing Blades have good tactics, LS then Evade to close the gap, repeat. EDIT: I was using this build when i played with low stats on NM

I am still curious how many players would do well with the Archer without Opportunity Knocks Anyway, because of Opportunity Knocks it is nearly unimportant which abilities you choose (well there may be a few stupid choices /combinations). Simply being able to spam abilities makes sure you have a good DPS same boring sh... as with the Silent Abomination. It may sound silly for many of you but that is why I prefer to play Hunter because he has cooldowns

I just tried out long shot after so many said they use it. It does horrible damage. Each hit is like 1500 even though target is at max auto target distance. Explosive Shot does 2500 (fire) + 1500 (physical) in comparison. So even if the targets are immune to fire, Explosive shot is still better as nothing can block it (shield/spear/position). It is so weird playing archer after playing hunter for so long. Archer is crazy powerful compare to Hunter.

I don't really use long shot that often anymore. But when I did, I also agree that single target damage is poor. It's only useful to me with the upgrade and near a trail of enemies. Especially nice in FC with all its long passages and choke points.

Long Shot is only good because it's an alternate form of multi-target damage that detonates, and can be spammed. Some maps/rooms are better suited for it, sure, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Then again, I really can't see myself playing with a build that isn't the three shots and Spike Trap.

That means your explosive shot hits for 3K + 5K = 8K I was expecting huge damage numbers for long shots. I kept replaying the video over and over to see anything I missed. Shadowplay is so awesome. If anything strange happens I just need to hit record to get it on video.

I really should start using Shadowplay. I feel like I'd still forget about it sometimes, though... I use the ability ring for Long Shot out of habit, so my preference is somewhat skewed (by about 30% ). I just love it as an ability. I'll never forget the archer firing squad games. Four endless Long Shots made very light work of Nightmare when it was still fresh. It was like watching a laser show.

If I replaced anything, it would be for Mark of Death. It's just such overkill in most situations. I think pride demons and dragons were the two main things I ever really used it for. And treasure room guardians, way back before Hakkons and permacrit. Only having to deal with half an enemy's health before swiping the kill was so satisfying.
