Who would you say were the best choices to take along on Here Lies the Abyss? It could be the best dialogue or those with the most connections the quest. My experience so far... - Solas has knowledge of the fade, but he is all 'fade fade blah-de-blah' about it. Cory has a very interesting comment to Solas in elven which is very interesting if you look for the translation. - Cassandra will see Divine Justinia again yet has surprisingly little to say to her. - Dorian has little to say, not as rewarding as other characters. - As a Warden Blackwall can convince the wardens you meet in the fortress to fight with you, and will get extra dialogue at the end if you chose to banish the wardens. - Varric Hawke. - Bull and Sera are really funny, they flip out and start panicking in the fade. Also Bull does an impression of Krem that's pretty great.

I love taking Cole. He has a specific comment about the floating rocks that I still wonder about:
"They still remember when they were higher, before it woke up and everything fell"
Is "it" the Veil or something else?
Bull is hilarious to take for his Krem impression alone lol but I always take Solas and Varric (for Hawke)!

For some funny dialogue, take Cole, Iron Bull and Sera. I got a good laugh when I did.

Sera just to freak her out. Bull just to freak him out. Solas because he's so calm (and a little ecstatic) about it, it creates a nice counterpoint for the other two.

It's hard to choose, they all have something good to say. Cass: tough talk vs. Nightmare, "maggots", and great reaction when meeting "Justinia" Dorian: Nightmare's taunts slide right off his slick mustache Sera: FREAKED OUT and in total denial Cole: Says stuff that actually makes sense for once Blackwall: Unafraid and I believe varies as to whether Revelations has been completed or no (I could be wrong about this)Iron Bull: Scared shitless, but managing it. Viv: (I honestly don't know, never took her into the Fade!) Varric: good repartee with Cass, Hawke and Nightmare , and some typical Varric jibes Solas: mentions the Black City and actually seems to tell the truth the whole way through, for once. Which makes me wonder, why didn't Nightmare out Solas in a big way? That would have started a brawl amongst the party and pretty much guarantee a great feast for Nightmare and no problem cleaning up the interlopers. Hawke & GW would have to break it up. I understand why they couldn't do it in the first playthrough, but maybe a New Game+ after completing Trespasser option? And then Nightmare or Justinia wipes their memories for the sake of the rest of the story.

What's funny about that is Abelas actually did out Solas but in a way no one would pick up on if they hadn't beat the game already.

I like Varric for Hawke connection and his "That's low, even for a demon" line Solas for Fade stuff Cass to recognize Justinia - not sure how anyone else even knows what she looks like? Oh, wait....it's the hat Cole for being Cole Iron Bull and Sera for freaking out, plus it makes Bull's "hit me with a stick" request make sense Blackwall for "Warden" angle, not necessarily for Fade part ( PapaCharlie9 : I don't think Revelations triggers until after both WEWH and HLTA have been completed) Dorian for his reaction later Vivienne is really the only one who disappointed, especially her lack of comment after returning to Skyhold (whereas if you don't take her, she says she is "positively envious," which to me is code for being scared shitless and very glad she didn't go with you)

Now I've researched Chantry beliefs a bit more (I didn't have the lore books the first time I played), I'm surprised that Cassandra didn't freak more at seeing Justinia there, since righteous souls are meant to go straight to the Maker's side and it is only the damned who wander the Fade endlessly, or immediately asset that it had to be a spirit because of aforementioned reasons. Also, she should have been getting really worried because according to the Chant, walking in the Fade physically is forbidden by the Maker and is likely to have really nasty results based on the last time in was done, but apparently she took it all in her stride, as do all the Chantry stalwarts when you get back.
I took Solas with me the first time to Adamant because he was so freaked out about what the Wardens were going to do, I thought I ought to have him with me rather than have him moaning at me when I got back. His reaction to the Fade is interesting, particularly since with hindsight the wheels must have been whizzing around in his mind that he was actually back in the Fade. I love his reaction when you ask if he recognises it.

My canon team is Solas, Varric and Cassandra (that's actually my canon team throughout the story, tbh). Not that my Inky would know they're gonna fall into the Fade again, but I do like seeing Solas in his "element", along with his emotionally crytic line about the Black City. I take Varric because of Hawke and Cassandra because of "Justinia". My current run I'll likely take Cole, Bull and Sera due to the many recommendations I've heard. I'll be without a mage, though, so we'll see how that goes. I did take Cole one time and his comment about how "they remember when they were higher" is fascinating.

Has anyone ever been able to determine which island we are on? We seem closer to the Black City and we are awake instead of dreaming, but in DAA I was startled at how close we were too compared to the Fade in DAO. I remember the giant island from the Magi Origin was almost towering over me when I met Justice.

It doesn't surprise me that Cassandra didn't freak out. She is so steadfast in what she believes regarding her faith. She is/was a seeker of truth, not a priest. She thinks the chantry is needed to give people hope but she did walk away from it, royally.
She can't be influenced don't forget, her mind is free from that.
She also believes what her eyes and ears tell her and isn't afraid to question all of it.

But what about "before he woke" and everything fell? A titan? A/The maker? One of the Elven Gods? Someone who aside from causing red lyrium to go away that was totally uneventful in all ways?

Red Lyrium though is Titans blood corrupted by the blight. Not sure I noticed any floaty stuff from red lyrium. The temple only starts floating when the breach is re-opened.
