Yeah; red lyrium at least seems to give some amount of "levitate stuff" to it's surroundings. So presumably a reference to some time when there was a lot of red lyrium going around? But what about "before he woke" and everything fell? A titan? A/The maker? One of the Elven Gods? Someone who aside from causing red lyrium to go away that was totally uneventful in all ways? Red Lyrium though is Titans blood corrupted by the blight. Not sure I noticed any floaty stuff from red lyrium. The temple only starts floating when the breach is re-opened. I tend to connect the floating twisted structures with the blue spires Solas mentioned that Aralathan had. Twisted spires that look petrified, like all the other pointy things we see when we look at the Black City and islands in the Fade. This codex also hints at parts of the Fade might be part of Arlathan. The part that didn't leave the Fade: The pages of this book—memory?—describe an elf approaching a city of glass spires so deeply blue they ache. The city's outskirts are wrapped in lakes of mist, and figures stroll along the pearly, glowing strips as if they walked on solid ground. Groves of trees woven into enormous parks shelter elves in quiet hollows, while other elves walk below a river churning along an invisible shoal in the air.
The scene hums with quiet talk and contentment as the memory's maker reaches the city's gates, already thrown open wide.

Back to the topic. My first ever time I took I think (?) Varric, Dorian and Blackwall? Once I realised it was the fade though I immediately swapped them around and took Cole, Solas and Bull. The next time I took Cassandra.
I loved how Solas got all excited about it, before we knew that it was all Baldy's fault. Now of course we know what he did I wonder if it was his excitement at being there for the first time since he made the veil?

I think because he has to wander the Fade in dreams, seeing it as it is raw would remind him of what life was once like before he parted everything. He also has a strange longing tone when saying how close the Black City is, and I suspect he wants to go there because of what he left there. As Cole said, faces trapped behind mirrors, sleeping and hurting. I have never taken Viv, but I have taken everyone else.

It`s hard to choose... I like Varric for the Hawke connection, Solas and Cole for their comments on the Fade, Blackwall for the Nightmare comments/hints about him not being a real warden, Cassandra because she recognises the Divine, Sera and Iron Bull for the funny reactions to the Fade and Dorian for his conversation in Skyhold. Vivienne was the only one that didn`t have anything to add in this quest and back in Skyhold she doesn`t even comment about it, which she does when we don`t take her to the Fade.
In my canon playthrough i chose Solas, Varric and Blackwall.

I like taking Varric because as many have pointed out already..Hawke. However, I was disappointed in what Varric's character had to reveal about himself. Everyone had their "outting", if you will. But Varric, it's all about putting Hawke in danger; and then the gravestones - Varric's fear is becoming his parents. Yawn. I thought maybe something about Bianca..something more insightful. But, eh, whatever.
I don't take Cole precisely because he freaks out and I feel bad about it. Sera and Bull freak out, too. It's just that with Cole it feels like a different kind of freak out. A more..freaked out freak out? I don't do it anymore.
Bull I like to take for his earthy feedback on the situation.
I like taking Viv because of her "outting" about age, and she's pretty insightful about it all.
Cass because Justinia, and it's all a big deal so I feel Cass should be there because she has that founder role in the Inquisition. It's a turning point I feel she should witness.

Is it possible Cole's freak out is because he's never been in the raw Fade? He says it's not how he remembers it and spirits usually lurk in the dream-like Fade with the fuzzy atmosphere.
I like taking Cass because her writing about what happened makes more sense than just going by what the Inquisitor told her. Also her attempt to console Varric if Hawke dies was pretty sweet.

I've never seen Hawke die. Thedas will burn before I let Hawke die. When I first took Cole, I thought, you know, Fade Spirit, etc. But when he freaked out it just upset me and I felt bad. So, I never took him again. Great voice actor, there. It could be because he's never been in the raw Fade. Was that supposed to be the raw Fade? Or were we all still seeing our own...projections. Or even our collective projections? Maybe Cole had the right of it? Maybe what we saw was not the "real" Fade....whatever that could actually be.

I think the raw Fade is the anchor letting us enter it without being asleep so we don't get that fuzzy pov. We are actually there and alert and seeing it for what it truly is.
I think Cole is used to the Fade that dreamers and the dead pass through.

Cassandra - Only because you meet a Spirit pretending to be Divine Justinia. Doesn't hold much relevance otherwise
Varric - He and Hawke continue to have banter there.
Solas - Top companion for the Fade portion I think, since he's the expert.
Blackwall - Not really relevant to the Fade part, so he'd really only be here if you took him to Adamant for the Wardens.
Iron Bull - Nothing.
Sera - Nothing. In fact she hates being there.
Vivienne - Nothing.
Dorian - Second best person to take, being yet another Tevinter mage who psychically entered the Fade.
Cole - Third best person to take, being a Spirit of Compassion.

I'd say varric but only if he's friends with hawke if not, then dorian because it's cool that he's another tevinter mage going into the fade or blackwall more for the adamant section, cassandra so that she can see the divine one last time and it feels like she should be there, and lastly definitely solas for obvious reasons.
