I did some searching on this "bug" and couldn't find anything, which is kind of surprising (I mean it's hard not to notice) Anyway I finally maxed Nova yesterday and playing against Outlaws (random enemies I swear) I ended up doing Biotic combos on my own, so I decided to do a quick solo to rule out any external influence. Sorry for the potato graphics but my PC is well below min specs (which was annoying to find out on first launch) Seismic Nova (rank 4 Damage, rank 5 Anti-armor) + Shockwave 1 + Biotic Explosion, can't even kill a Saboteur on Bronze :/ Last one, I'm not sure if the BE was centered on the Agent or the Hydra Does anybody knows if that's a case of "wrong power description" or just working as intended (which I'm inclined to believe), and whether it works on large enemies or not ?

Overload also primes things for tech detonation but it is only displayed as tech detonator

So basically the meta, as far as powers are concerned, is "Let's randomly mash buttons, it's gonna do stuff" ? "The most extensive user testing we've ever done"

It primes everything, and I assumed that was intended.
I figured that only the knockdown effect pertained to unarmored unshielded enemies, honestly.
Other biotic effects like Annihilation Field also prime everything in range, regardless of protections, so it seems intended.

Do you know how long the priming duration lasts? Also, would it make radius at rank 4 viable as you could simply Shockwave multiple targets in a line?
Thanks for the info though. At least this is a useful bug, like Overload.

Wow that's actually pretty awesome. I wonder if Shockwave's rank six priming evo is also bugged? Probably however on a Human Vanguard its not worth maxing Shockwave over Nova because Shockwave will then only be able to be detonated by a Charge or a teammates detonator. Where as Nova primer can be detonated by both Shockwave and Charge.

Do you know how long the priming duration lasts? I get 3-4 seconds priming from Krogan Vanguard's Nova. It's easy enough to miss the detonation window with Charge because the combo only triggers when you contact your target and there's a whole animation + travel time to get through first. And yes, I'm pretty sure Nova with 6A (?) primes everything, even through shields. I love using Charge on a group of enemies that are near an edge of the map and then Nova'ing them off the map, even though that doesn't contribute to Rage upkeep when I easily could have. I think Nova's knockback only works on unshielded health-based enemies, whereas armor-based enemies only get staggered.

At least this is a useful bug, like Overload. I'm not sure about duration, but I'd say a handful of seconds. At one point I primed a Berserker but he dropped two stories below, I followed and by the time I managed to line up a Shockwave (between 5 and 10 secs) he wasn't anymore. As for multiple detonations, I know they were possible in theory in ME3 but the list of conditions was pretty damn long and complex. IIRC, one single area-primer followed by another single area-detonator (e.g. Area Reave > Shockwave) didn't work, but I can be wrong and of course it might have changed in MEA. In any case that's something that would need some in-depth-testing, probably once the game goes through some patching first. Do you know how long the priming duration lasts? I didn't notice any BE on Sharpshooters but with hindsight I might have meleed them to death instead of using shockwave. Woops Wow that's actually pretty awesome. I wonder if Shockwave's rank six priming evo is also bugged? No idea for this one, I don't have any character with more than one point in it or plans to have one shortly. Well, unless Hatesurfing makes a comeback (Biower plz).

OP, that's the whole point of the skill evolution. It says so in the description. And there's a few other skills like that too. It primes everything, like a warp would.
It can be a bit obfuscated tough, since Shockwave and Pull can work differently, since they're priming by lifting unprotected enemies. But that still remains in the description if you read it well. In the Nova evo it doesn't say anything about unprotected, just that it primes.
This is not a bug.

This must be what going mad feels like Not saying you're wrong because I have an history of understanding Bioware's descriptions wrongly (I mean for a while I thought AP/Shredder mods damage penalty applied to every shot in ME3) but I thought that description was pretty clear. Well, I'll just blame English being my third language, I must have forgotten something about sentence structures or punctuation working differently.

Well, I'll just blame English being my third language, I must have forgotten something about sentence structures or punctuation working differently. Yeah, it is a bit awkwardly worded. But you are essentially right. The funny thing is I don't recall seeing (or at least reading it this way) that only unprotected/normal sized enemies are affected. I just understood it that it adds a warp-like primer to them. I come to this understanding follow this logic: For shockwave 6B evolution it says that affected enemies are briefly suspended midair and primed. But following the laws of ME combat mechanics, enemies protected by shields, barrier, armor or giant sized enemies cannot be affected by cc or be ragdolled (those are usually armored anyway) except for a stun if sufficient force is applied. This stands true since ME2. But for Nova it says that it knocks and primes. And then it adds a second sentence which is completely confusing and unneeded. It is already known that protected/giant enemies cannot be ragdolled as a general rule of ME mechanics, so why would they write this?
Ah, I got it! The key word Bioware dev is using is affected! Affected enemies by lifting shockwave get ragdolled and primed because they got affected by the shockwave CC. Seismic Nova, however, primes first and CC affects regular enemies by knocking them away. I think this makes sense now? This way it's understandable that Nova always primes, because it doesn't have a cc-affected prerequisite to prime. It only gives a cc effect additionally, if the enemy is unprotected. The key logic is understanding what affected means for the dev - it simply means that they got CCed! Read these two again carefully and focus how the words affected and primed are used:

There's no "logic" to understand in the power evolution description. It's just flat out shitty description that should be fixed, and anyone saying "of course it works that way" should get off their high horse.
This is what is says: "Knocks enemies to the ground and primes them for combo detonations. Only unarmoured, un-shielded, normal-size enemies are affected."
Now, just about anything written can be interpreted in multiple ways, but in this case, there really is only one obvious interpretation: armoured, shielded or large enemies are not affected by the priming and knockdown effects.
Will this ever get fixed? Probably not.
