It is a checklist system for ratings. I know the movie rating system better, but you can say "Fuck" once in a movie and it stays PG-13, but if you give two "Fucks" it becomes R rated for language. If you look at the movie Bully that is exactly what happened to it, even though it was a documentary and about children at the age of 14, they didn't cut out "offensive language" and made it inappropriate for children even though it was children using the language unscripted.

The other problem is in the United States sexuality is something children must be protected from and since there is some level of sexual content and same-sex content as well, they are going to rate it Mature the moment they can even if not everyone sees that content.

It's not. You can play it in Germany when you are 16. Totally appropriate age for that game. Witcher 2 had torture and rape and even that was for 16 year olds.

Jaal and Cora's sex scenes ensured that this game got the Mature rating, if nothing else did. Watching VG characters act in that level of detail was almost embarrassing. Some things are best left to living people. While kids see worse everyday at school, online, etc... that's not via a marketed entertainment product with a "teen friendly" rating.

I can't stand talking video game ratings as must people are generally ignorant of it. I mean people called halo a mature game when it had little to no nudity, cursing, and it had fluorescent blood, hardly a game that really deserved an M rating yet people thought it so anyways. Then you have a game like Andromeda where you'll see tits and ass as well as in appropriate conversations (it Doesn't take just the word fuck to get naughty language people) as you'll hear companions talk about other people in sexual ways as well as the ketts exaltation process in deep ways and even certain species insulting another lol. Not to mention you have gays/lesbians and the like which in itself is controversial to the ratings.
It's not necessarily a kids game, it has "childish" dialogue at times, but it's not even close to a kids esq kind of game and I'll feel anyone thinking otherwise is as I said from the get go, ignorant of the ratings and truly don't understand them.

Dialogue fluctuates between Ratchet and Clank and Guardians of the Galaxy levels (so 6-13?). If you're a prude then sex scenes are 18+. I for one was watching porn when I was preteen as I'm sure many kids do these days, but let's call it 13+ for some video game booty in real-talk terms.

It's confused about its own identity. They wrote it for 12-year-olds but then inserted violence and soft-core sex scenes in it - it just reflects the sort of immature mentality they have at BioWare I guess.
