Lastly, I got Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw (I know, Epic Store, but whatever). Really great atmosphere and style. Basically, Wild West in space (think Firefly, dialed up to eleven). The soundtrack is awesome, rock and country radio stations with over 24 hours of licensed music. And don't worry, I am not a country fan by any means but in this case, it just fits so perfectly, it's great. If you absolutely can't stand that kind of music, you can also import your own into the game, which is always a great feature IMO. Good to hear some positive feedback on this! I played Rebel Galaxy twice through and had a rollicking good time (had to turn the music off though, as it was too loud). How does this compare to the first game? I've heard some mention that the recommended specs are far too low for what is really required. Did you have any issues running it?

In Fallout New Vegas:
I do terrific above ground, getting stuff done, picking up companions...bumped into Veronica, killing things...levelling up...letting my companions kill things. But below ground it is all like...where the heck am I going? Is that stairs over there? Oh the solution is to find a key card left on a random shelf somewhere. Bethesda is great.
On the flip side I am beginning to appreciate just how involved the side quests are. Or at least the reason there is no real distinction between side quests and main quests are...there is no real distinction between side quest and main quest. They all seem pretty involved. Aside from the hunting of the random ants. So I have pretty much recruited four of the companions (Veronica, Cass, Boone, and ED-E)...gonne do the rest of them before going off to meet Chandler in the Lucky 38. I guess some of them are going to be in Freeside. Recruiting Cass was a bit of a marathon for all I had to do for her...the Crimson Caravan trading company, and then trying to get the speech up to convince her...only to have her want me to get some ants.
I'm off to somewhere called Jacobstown yet. I also love how excited I get at the idea of levelling up...one of the best things to do in an RPG.

So continued Crysis 2 yesterday and had a couple of fun maps to get through and a bit more story progress. Alcatraz continued to try and find his way the Dr. Gould who has become a bit of a moving target. So started up after gathering the Alien DNA which enabled some suit enhancements, the most annoying thing is when I play this game again is I can log into my profile and it remembers all the achievements and progress I have made but it looks like Crytek have taken down the profile site. That means I have to go through the gathering process of alien DNA to enhance the suit when my suit should already be fully enhanced which is a bit annoying. Anyway did my first suit enhancement that helps track the aliens and then moved on and witnessed a cut scene where Cmd. Lockhart and Tara Strickland are fighting about Prophet being killed, Lockhart is pro it and Strickland isn't as her boss Hargreaves who designed the suit wants Prophet alive. Anyway Lockhart orders CELL to kill on sight which leads to Alcatraz/Prophet having to fight through some checkpoints on the FDR and then steal a mini-tank and take on some vehicles and some tanks. Then, Alcatraz has to get to Gould's apartment to destroy his computer which involves a fight on a pier and a few buildings and then a pretty full-on fight in the apartment that includes taking out a helicopter and guys repelling into the building. That done Alcatraz heads off to Gould's apartment where he gives a lesson on the fact that basically the liens are Cephalopods/Squids and then when scanning the suit realises its not Prophet in the suit. Gould needs to access a better suit scanner to figure out what is going on with the suit as ther DNA Alcatraz has incorporated is doing something. At this pint CELL storm the apartment and Alcatraz and Gould go their separate ways to a place that has a better scanner after Alcatraz kills more CELL troops. Pics Lockhart and Strickland arguing Fun in the Tank and Dead CELL guys!!! The Pier is quite fun, lots of random fuel drums just lying around allows for some multiple kills Gould realises Prophet isn't the body in the suit and the Biology Lesson

I've heard some mention that the recommended specs are far too low for what is really required. Did you have any issues running it? I only played the first Rebel Galaxy a short time but the soundtrack is definitely similar (if even better I think). And yes, it's insanely loud here as well. I think I turned the music volume down to around 15% in the options (I barely ever change sound mixing in games). But once you do that, it's fine. I am sure you are aware already but just to mention it, Outlaw plays very differently than the first RG. Where the first one played kinda like the sea battles in Assassin's Creed (in a 2D space), this one is a classic space sim/shooter ala Freelancer, Privateer or Darkstar One. In terms of story, it doesn't matter if you played the first one or not. This is a prequel and you play Juno Markev, the aunt of the main character in the first game (not really a spoiler but still, just making sure.) As for recommended hardware, I can't really say. It runs perfectly on my system with max settings but my rig is fairly powerful (i7 4790k, RTX 2070, 16 GB RAM), so I am not sure how it would do on weaker hardware. The graphics are not that impressive, so I'd be surprised if it was too intense but of course, you never know, the dev team is apparently only 2 guys plus some outsourced graphics stuff (which is actually really impressive). But yea, so who knows how well it's optimized, it might not be. BTW, little trivia: The game runs on the Torchlight 2 engine of all things. Fallout: New Vegas [...] Bethesda is great. But Obsidian not so much?

Fallout 4. Went to Concord and helped out some Minute Men. They went to Sanctuary after I saved them, said I would met them later after going to Diamond City to seek out info on who could help me with my lost son.
Wanted to see what Fallout 4 looked like on my new big screen IPS monitor. Pretty colors and all but still doesn't compare to the marvelous atmosphere of DAI.

Tried the No Man's Sky Beyond update and can't stop hating on how they ruined base building with that half-assed broken powering system...
All my bases are now dead ruins. When they added a power requirement they did this only for the prefab round metal rooms. Everyone who built wood houses is fucked. There currently is NO WAY to power a planter in a wood/metal/concrete house. WTF.
This confirms my suspicion that nobody ever tested if base building actually works. Not when they added these new wood parts with NEXT, not now. I'm so pissed off. Since they never fixed any of the broken shit before I don't expect them to now. I mean, they released curved cuboid rooms without matching floors 2 years ago...
The update did nothing to overhaul the extremely limited planet variety which is the biggest issue the game still has. It still gets boring fast. So now the only thing I still enjoyed somewhat got ruined.
Building a base takes about 5 times longer now just to power a few simple things. And then it loos ugly as fuck with all the wire and generator spam. Several generators to power one bio dome is just hilariously bad design. Sometimes I don't understand how things get released the way they do.
The expanded MP is cool and VR too I guess. But a lot of people are pretty mad right now. All the glitch builders might as well stop playing the game. Or not use lights anymore because those have to be powered one by one when not attached to the round rooms.
Ridiculous.

ACOD Picking up where I left off. After a brief question with a YTuber who put up a video on warrior build, I went back to Hephaestus and found the upgrade for the sword dmg. I swear it wasn't there the last time I looked. I checked very carefully. Oh well. The Ytuber's warrior build went up to over a million in dmg and frankly, I doubt I can get that high unless I use purple gear. Someone commented it's possible to get as near that good with the warrior armour set so I'm sticking to it and see what I can make of it. He racked up over 1200 hours of play for ACOD. At present, my counter is 720 hours. I finished the Kass's father questline and did Herotodus's quest line. I'm glad they tied his end; I was left wondering if he remained with Kass all the time in the old PTs. His quest is a bit glitchy though I had my image grab on and that could possibly have interfered. During the initial dialogue with his brother, the brother's mouth animation was not there and there wasn't any sound though they're talking. Fortunately, the glitch ended when they visited his parents' tomb. But then, that was when I turned off the image grab when controls for Kass went haywire. After that, I started Atlantis. I'm leaving Legacy for the next PT. Right now, I'm mighty pissed with the stupid jumps back and forth between Layla and Kass regards the door symbols. All the talk about Layla being this great person, great awaited for heir. She has done nothing to earn it in my book and nothing so far is building her up to anything. The insipid dialogue is irritating as h***. Taking a break because I'm not enjoying the Layla section. The flare she holds is so bright I've trouble looking around.

Wanted to see what Fallout 4 looked like on my new big screen IPS monitor. Pretty colors and all but still doesn't compare to the marvelous atmosphere of DAI. IPS, IPS, IPS... Gaming wise grabbing my current monitor is easily the most noticeable feature. Definitely not regretting that purchase (well, couldn't use it to full without upgrading the rest of the hardware, but still). Replaying some old games just to see how they look now. And in higher resolution of course. That reminds me, I forgot to mention I had massive jumps in FPS during Crysis 1 gameplay, like from 35 to 140...and not a single screen tear that I could notice The monitor's G-sync rocks too. I think I will never again buy a monitor without some sort of adaptive sync.
Loaded back in AC Odyssey and wow, my pet Alpha wolf loaded back with me. I vaguely recall there was an update that mentioned pets will stay when reloading, but since I never really bothered with them, that went mostly unnoticed. It was a pleasant surprise to have my faithful follower with me. I tamed him like first thing in the playthrough. His den was almost next to Kass's hovel at the start. And then almost lost him. I didn't know that when I use Vanish and then Shadow of Nyx to escape combat, the pet remains engaged in the fight. And I alerted a whole fort because my 94% crit rate still fails 6 % of the time and a Polemarch survived my knock down attempt. The wolf faithfully remained behind (because I didn't notice) to cover my escape with his life. Well, he tanked half the fort quite valiantly until I finally decided to look back and reenter with a barrage of knockdown arrows. It was not his day to die. New goal - keep the wolf alive as long as possible!

ACOD Continued on. Finally moved on to Kass in Elysium. Right off the bat, Persephone set the guards on Kass. So let's see; long spear guard is akin to Medusa with those annoying blasting circles, the others are akin to the soldiers found in Greece; dumb. The Kolosus guards can port and shoot laser beams but are mighty stupid if they can't locate Kass. Goes without saying there will be fights where Kass will be in their LOS right off the bat but until then, I'm playing cat and mouse with them. Also not happy to find the devs put in another item, the staff, to upgrade like the spear. wtf. Upgrading the bloody staff will enhance existing skills or so the description says. hooray I hope the enhance skills carry over to NG+ otherwise, it's a grind I won't be repeating. I didn't go to see anyone after the dialogue with Hermes. Talking to her is last in my book. I went off exploring and took down a few of Persephone's control points. I doubt she'll be happy but then, she set her dogs on Kass in the first place. An unwarranted attack.

ASUS Rog Swift 279Q. I think the current version of it is the 279QR. There are also similar spec/performance monitors from Acer, BenQ and other manufacturers, usually in the same price range. As 1440p IPS monitors go, those are probably at the top. I went for the 279Q because it had G-sync and I had a Nvidia GPU. That was before Nvidia started supporting Freesync, but even so I would still get G-sync as it is still superior in my eyes...as it should be for that 200$ premium, lol.
I had several big worries regarding the purchase though. The price was (still is) hefty and there are some specific issues that come with the IPS technology - backlight bleed and IPS glow. There are some horror stories on the net regarding backlight bleed issues, especially with Asus monitors. Most of those seem to be from the launch of the product back around 2015. It seems the issue was mostly ironed out later on since I got the monitor in early 2018 (I think) and it had no backlight bleed (I really tested it in all kinds of light and angles) and just a minor IPS glow at the lower right corner that I could only notice if I almost faceplant myself at the screen. Or I just got lucky with the silicon lottery of course I was dreading I will end up in a long RMA battle until I get an acceptable unit.
It took me like 2-3 days to adjust. Moving from a TN to the IPS panel seemed somehow weird initially as everything looks somehow more sparkly and in your face. But those colors... Afterward it's just pure joy playing games that go all out to deliver beautiful and vibrant areas. Going from 60Hz to 144Hz was also a bit of "wow". Smooth folder dragging all across the desktop - who would have thought it's so fun (Heads up for anyone that is getting a 120+Hz monitor - the refresh rate is not set up as high at default and is usually still at 60Hz. You need to manually adjust it in Windows settings and probably also in your GPU control panel. Testufo.com usually can tell you at what refresh rate your monitor is. There are many people that thought they are at 144Hz while being at 60Hz, sometimes for over a year). And then looking around in games and every movement is so new. You get used to it and stop noticing, but then you go to your or any other 60Hz monitor and wonder how did you never thought it's so sluggish.

I have a 1440p (non gaming) IPS monitor, NEC EA274WMi. Made for photographers mostly. Expensive one. Cost 650 bucks at the time. The colors of the Dell for half the price were almost as good but it was a flimsy thing with backlight bleeding due to the super thin frame. The replacement Dell had the same issues. Decided to try something better. The expensive one is sturdy. So the price is mostly for build quality/durability. No backlight bleeding. The IPS glow and overall poor black level is something that is not ideal for gaming imo. It still annoys me sometimes when playing very dark games. And I sit very close to the screen so the silver effect happens easily. But overall it's a great great monitor well worth the money. I like how I can tilt it forward a bit since I sit low, leaned back in a basket chair with a controller for maximum comfort.

Played some more Remnant: From the Ashes, and it's quickly becoming apparent that this game is a time thief. Sat down to play after work and next thing I know its 12:45 I have done quite a bit with my sessions though. Due to my friends being occupied with work and life I've been running solo the past few days. Initially it was very frustrating moving into areas without the backup I had grown accustomed to, but I was able to eventually step up my game and advance through the various dungeons arrayed before me. It took a while but I managed to clear a swamp infested realm all by myself, as well as kill the World Boss guarding that plane. If that isn't enough self-advertisted e-peen, I also closed out the night by finally defeating the Undying King; again all my my lonesome. Now that fight was ridiculous. Lets just say that being the herald of the swarm, and being able to fire off voracious insects at my enemies comes with its advantages.

Alright. Very busy day. Evening. One of those.
Joined the server for the mini op. Found out I'm still stuck behind enemy lines. After a brief talk with the gamemaster, we decided to have that be a secondary objective. Get me outta there. I held out for thirty, maybe forty five minutes in an attic before they got me. When the Recon guys got there, they said they counted good twenty bodies. They haven't even seen all the sides of the building. So I managed to regroup with the combat engineer team and go deploy a minefield in a forest. Well, we kinda had to fight our way to the damn forest. We took a break to survey the situation in a trench system two hundred meters away from the forest. That's when the enemy started pouring out of there like it was their hive. We apparently hit some sick version of a jackpot. We had so much fire on us, peeking out over was a bit of a crazy idea. Suppressed beyond effectiveness, all I could do was sling a 40mm after another blindly at the forest. I dunno how many bodies we racked up there, but we must be getting a LOT of respect now. So we mined the damn place, pulled back to a village. A while later, sitting around doing nothing, we find out the other element is under fire from the north. We had a mortar. Excellent idea! One of the guys who knows what he's doing (supposedly - we'll get back to that very soon) jumped on the tube, and I ran up front to correct fire. When he started shooting, something felt odd. Then I realized, those mortars were whooshing right on top of me. I got up, started running. It landed good thirty feet away from where I was. Well, some might think "Hey, he dodged a bullet. Mortar. Whatever." No. That was an 82mm high explosive. I walked back to the position alright. I walked back just like that one guy in Platoon after that booby trap in the bunker. That's when I fell unconscious. The next thing I remember is the medic staring at me from inches away. Guess I got lucky.

Cheers, checking it out here in Aust. it sells for $949 but there is a different one that to me seems to be similar and is only $419 am I missing something? I says G-Synch compatible so I assume it will run G-Synch with an Nvidia card? So the latest annoyance. Veronica seems to be having a bout of sucking. No matter what I was doing she would just hunker down into a corner and not actually engage anyone. The height of it was when Legion Assassins ambushed me on the road and she was between me and them, instead of attacking though she turned towards me and then ran out of the way setting up easy shots. (Funny I was under the impression that the Legion didn't use firearms.)
So I traded her back in for a nice upgrade to Boone. This time I went to Vault 22 and approched Jacobstown from the North instead of the South. Ran into Cazador's but other than that everything was fine. I also met Michael Dorn (AKA Marcus) and Keene. Should be a lot of fun.

I bought the Dell Alienware 1900R AW3418DW. Something like this was in the far future for a purchase but it was on sale for nearly half off so I just couldn't bypass it. It goes well with my RTX 2080.
Fallout 4. Cleared out the raider scum at the Corvega factory. Made some settlers happy who joined the Minute Men, thus making Preston happy. I did it because I like killing raider scum.

The VG278Q is a cousin monitor of the 279Q, but with TN panel instead of IPS, 1920x1080 resolution instead of 2560x1440, capping at 144Hz without an option to go to 165Hz (that's a minor difference really), doesn't have a G-sync module. The lower price comes from the TN panel, lower resolution and the absence of a G-sync module (which alone is around 200 US dollars premium). The monitor is G-sync compatible however, which means that it's Freesync will work well on Nvidia cards, especially the 10xx series and up. If I recall you are on a 1920x1080p TN panel monitor already, and the 144Hz is the only upgrade you will get from it, which I don't think is worth it.
The VG279Q available on the site is a sister model to the VG278Q, same specs but with IPS panel. I read however that it is not quite a true IPS and more of a modified VA version, which in rare cases can lead to some ghosting issues.
My recommendation is if you think of an upgrade - go for one of two things (or if you can afford it it's better to go for both together) - 1. IPS panel with higher frequency (like 120Hz+) and 2. higher resolution.
IPS panel - because I think it will suit you better. It has better colors and better viewing angles. TN panels are a thing for competitive gamers and unless you look to aggressively climb to the top ranks in CSGO and similar games, you don't have a need for a TN panel and will benefit a lot more from the beauty of an IPS. Of course IPS panels have the trade off of having the chance for some monitor issue like backlight bleed or excessive IPS glow, but chances for that happening are pretty low and you can RMA a unit until you get a good one.
Higher frequency - well, it's just better to have it, things will move smoother on the screen. Some people don't notice a big difference, but the majority definitely feel it as a serious upgrade in games. Even if you can't quite pull out constant 100+ FPS on max settings in modern games, your monitor usually stays with you through several GPU upgrades and you will have the headroom to enjoy the FPS rise. And many people lower a few graphic settings since they enjoy much more the fluid movement of 120+ FPS. It's better to have options.
Higher resolution - things are crispier and prettier. Moving from 1080p to 1440p for me was an awesome experience. Many details became more noticeable. "Wrex, buddy, your scars look better, man!" I can't go back to 1080p anymore.
As for Freesync vs G-sync - Nvidia supports Freesync now. There is a list of G-sync compatible monitors that have Freesync, but work really well with Nvidia cards www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs/ G-sync is slightly better, more stable and has wider range than Freesync, but definitely not 200$ better. More like 50$ difference. If you never used G-sync and go for a G-sync compatible monitor, you will never know the difference and will find the Freesync awesome (adaptive sync is awesome in general, I can't recall the last time I saw a screen tear. And with high refresh rate ceiling you do need an adaptive sync monitor). I suspect even a G-sync user will rarely feel the difference between G-sync and Freesync nowadays. And even Freesync monitors that are not certified G-sync compatible will work quite well with Nvidia cards, but may need a little calibration.
So, TLDR - look for as many of the following as you can - IPS, 120+Hz (nowadays it's usually 144Hz as a standard), 1440p+ resolution, G-sync or G-sync compatible monitor as your next upgrade. Acer and Asus usually have good and affordable options in that range. From the site you linked, I saw a few more good ones similar to the PG279Q:

POE II Deadfire Not in the mood for ACOD so I went to Deadfire. I didn't realise I could change the colour of companions' clothing. The damn icon is small and on top and I associate that with ship colours, not clothing. Couldn't change Eder's armour colours though, they stayed stubbornly the same. Came across Riggere in jail. For a moment I thought Tyrone Savage voiced this char because he sounded like Akibiades! That whiny / oily inflection. I looked it up but no, it's another voice actor. Dang, they sound so alike!

Fire Emblem Awakeninggot passed chapter's 2 and 3 nobody died
Mystra, Chrom and Lissa all got another level up or two (all three are level 4 now)
got a few support conversations in as well, always nice to have those (mostly because it's useful during fights when they pair up or fight near each other)
New units gained as well in chapter 2: Stahl: Cavalier number 2 (part of the Cain and Abel duo with Sully, the latter being a red cavalier and Stahl being green), is obsessed with food and sleeping...very kind and mellow
Vaike: a Fighter who talks in third person and apparently keep forgetting his axe every so often Miriel: Mage number 1; equipped with a fire tome making her very useful against armored units, she's a typical mage who's apparently very intelligent
in chapter 3: Kellam: Knight with an inferiority complex who everyone seems to overlook due to the fact he's invisible 90% of the time...literally (no seriously, that's the whole running gag with the fact everyone forgets he's even around) Sumia: Pegasus Knight number 1, she's clumsy and seems to have a huge crush on Chrom (also she's his canon love interest, but we're going to ignore that ) Vaike, Sumia and Miriel all gained a level up this chapter (level 4, 2 and 2 respectively)
so the party has arrived in Regna Ferox, having a diplomatic fight with the border guards because apparently Plegia (the enemy country) thought it'd be funny to impersonate Ylissian royalty (like Chrom and Lissa) and instigate a war we won though, and the captain of the border guards named Raimi is currently escorting the party to the capital to speak with the Khan's about a possible alliance
unlocked the first side chapter as well (where we'll get another new unit named Donnel (a glass canon Villager who's going to be an almost literal god after he's leveled properly ) in the next chapter we'll also gain another unit named Lon'qu, our first Myrmidon
