I did watch this one yesterday. I'm still leaning towards perhaps getting the game at some point. The "exotic" factor with this setting looks real nice to me. Don't like that Borderlands ish style of item leveling in which you're supposed to keep finding and upgrading your gear (with exception of Borderlands itself), but who knows I may end up liking it. I wonder though, this game has loot boxes and shit too? It does, but ignore everyone who says they're intrusive. They're really not.

Okay, the AC2 picked up for me. I explored Florence before actually processing with, well, not so much assassination, as with the meddling in Florence's politics sequence.
So, I found the reuse of the public attack on Lorenzo Medici in the game interesting, but I keep being disappointed with the murders/targets themselves after expecting them to be the starts of the show like in AC1. Instead, they are presented in some sort of a handbook of super-villains style.
Also, just after Lorenzo cried happy tears on Ezio shoulder about how their families forever were and forever will be friends, there are still posters of Ezio all over Florence and the guards are under orders to skewer him on sight? What gives?
Went to the villa, built a mine & bought & fixed a couple of things. Ezio is now broke.

I actually like the spoilers I picked up that the present day story now nixed the direct bloodline, and lets ou plug into memories of anyone whose genetic material can be recovered. I am hoping that they can keep that premise, and let go of the Assassins are Good, Templars are Evil formula with the ye gods not again Peace of Eden relics and just plain plug in pseudo historic adventure romps into Animus. Sort of like Three Musketeers where you adventure and thwart Richelieu but do not kill Richelieu.
Animus is the high five of this franchise, a time machine that does not contaminate timelines, it links back to the player, and it's a plot starter extraordinaire, so... use it, boys! But let's leave the erm... less successful ideas behind there, shall we? Because dunno about other "sins" but Altair worked, but Ezio... doesn't, and Desmond is never going to as a Sin.

Well the world is definitely more fun to explore. In past ACs I felt like a tourist, not really engaged with the environment. Although you do have to rely heavily on the animus pulse to find anything. Side quests so far are decent. It has the best looking water in a game I've ever seen.

Ubisoft tried to make Templars more sympathetic, I think. In ACIII and AC: Rogue it was most visible (haven't played the latter, though). Also, after ACIII the present day protagonist becomes more like Gordon Freeman (just a random person working at Abstergo and testing memories recovered with Animus; first-person view and no VA).

I only played the first couple of hrs...that being said the present day in AC:O is already better then what they had in BF, R, U and S. Just for the fact that they have a VOICED, 'PLAYABLE' PROTAGONIST. So, they can only go up from here as far as I'm concerned. Where you were some no name and you experienced the S plot as a bystander. Also, there is a nice Watch_Dogs 1 easter egg as well.

It looks nice I suppose, but it's the same old formula that I never particularly enjoyed, apparently the story is not impressive to say the least. Oh, and they didn't drop the modern day BS part of the premise, which I always found to be an extremely irritating and redundant aspect of AC.
Maybe I'll get it at some point, but certainly not now.
Well, I haven't played an AC since Black Flag, and I never even finished that one. Maybe that's why the game is more appealing to me. I think it was around BF when they started releasing one game per year like COD and I got super pissed about it and dropped the franchise altogether.

So apparently you need to lock on before you can smoothly switch between targets? I've been doing it all wrong. I'm so used to using camera orientation to target like TW3 does.

Not locking on still kind of works. Which is good because that's what I'm (not) doing.

I don't even lock on unless I'm fighting one opponent. Just find it hard to block and parry effectively when switching between locked on targets.

I am not enjoying this.... hate the combat, the stealth is nowhere near as satsifying ad it used to be, and the story, while starting well, has fallen on its face. I wanted to love it... it’s AC... but it’s AC3 levels of bad.
And naturally, the internet crowds of certain places are calling this the greatest AC yet... I guess I should ready myseld to walk away from this franchise. And after Syndicate got so much right......

Funny, my opinion so far is the exact opposite of all this. My view is pretty much this. That said, there was much I enjoyed about Syndicate too. I think we all bring some of our own baggage to the party when we play games, I try hard to play the game that is before me, not to get distracted by what the game isn't or how it may be different to any other game. For example, I suck at combat in ACO, so that's a challenge I need to get to grips with. YouTube will be my friend, I'm going to invest some time seeing how people do and learn the game anew. If changed mechanics are approached as part of the challenge, they may become entertaining rather than perceiving them as a difficult chore.

I think some fans want their familiar AC fix, and adding in the levels and RPG elements stifles stealth in the early hours so you don't feel much like an assassin. I haven't even gotten the hidden blade yet so stealth isn't as satisfying. But I've also been occupied by actually exploring, which is a new thing in an AC game for me. And having little story bits to the quest makes a big difference. As much as I liked Syndicate, it got repetitive as hell. It had about 6 different activities littered all over the map and they all played out the same. The quests in Origins help relieve that monotony. As far as combat goes, I'm still not sure about the aiming toggle in group encounters, but trading blows is way more satisfying.

I'm on both sides. On one hand, AC really should have done this years and years ago...exploration, quests, stories of each segment of history. Absolutely Love it. Ubisoft really has great artists and world designers and those morons are finally taking advantage of it. On the other, I think they strayed too far from making you feel like assassin. Souls like playstyle...feels wrong, too clumsy, not fitting to the role. Imo, they should've went for something more similar to DMC: stylish, good balance of control and "fluidity".
Rpg mechanics here are a hit/miss.
:grumbles:
( Someone should really make Conan barbarian game in this style)

Okay, I've been gone because I wanted to play without accidentally getting spoiled. I hate the new combat (daggers/shield+sword/spear). I was fine with Syndicate combat and I'm not sure why they thought they needed it to be Dark Souls'ish combat. I don't like DS. But I do LOVE the bow stuff mixed with stealth, which is how I'm trying to play. I've only gotten to Giza and I'm like level 23. Story seems okay so far. Why is there no codex or whatever to read about people and places? WHY? I've only gotten 2 brief MD scenes so far. The chick seems annoying Maybe I'll see if she can actually leave the cave and explore like Desmond could. I agree with what SofaJockey says. I'm trying to adjust, but honestly, I hope they go back to AC style fighting and get rid of this warrior crap. I also hate, hate, hate that there is no mini map. I've never liked the bar at the top of the screen thing. I'll probably be gone for a day or 2 again while I play some more. Have fun in Egypt!

I swear there was an interview with Ismail where he said players could choose the established style of combat if they didn't like the new system. I remember thinking that seemed like an odd statement, to literally develop two systems for one game. I need to find out what he was referring to,

I was unsure about the combat at first, but I found it just 'clicked' after a while. I can understand why some people might not like it; it's not really designed to make you feel like an effortless badass like the old games, but honestly, I'm kind of tired of the same old counter spamming system.
