Finally killed a Phylake. Those fuckers are tough, goddamn. Would have been boned if I didn't take out half of his healthbar by sneak attacking him.

I tried to snipe one from afar with my predator bow. The damage was so negligible that I immediately realized I needed to level up further. (He was Level 22, I was 17.) I'm gunning for him and his level 20 buddy tomorrow. I kind of wish I had some smoke bombs and the like, but I've gone for combat optimization in the early levels. We'll see how it goes.

It's really nothing like DAI. This is true open world, with a vast map of Egypt. DAI was a collection of discreet zones separated by loading screens. Being a completionist by nature, I've never felt forced to do DAI's side content in order to advance. I realize that's precisely the case, but it never bothered me. Origins does feel more open and less restricted, to me. There is so much fun stuff to do in an absolutely beautiful setting that I'm generally significantly overleveled for the critical path. I think you'd have to try a speed run in order to have any level-based difficulties. If you do even a third of the side stories, you should be loaded with good gear and have sufficient XP. It could be that this eventually wouldn't be enough. It's impossible for me to say, given I'm only level 20 and in the very early stages of the game. Player skill varies, of course, so this may or may not apply for you. I'm playing on Hard, and have no difficulty defeating foes three or four levels above my own. The difficulty of this game is being somewhat exaggerated, in my experience. Higher than that, and my weapons behave as if made of paper. There are definitely no-go zones in place, but they've yet to bother me at all. I will get to those places later. There is more then enough great content in the accessible areas. I watched a few hours of more gameplay. *shakes head* Not getting this. The game world is now three to four times bigger with a lot more distractions. I watched streamers complete side quests and often thought; does this have any impact (small / big) on the main story in the later stages. Is it nothing more than xps and leveling? I wouldn't know unless I watch gameplay from beginning to end. I doubt I could do it. The whole thing has that "been there, done that" feeling to me. I don't see anything new, the new protag does not interest me from the get go. Gameplay felt formulaic. I have been able to watch gameplay of a game from start to end. Horizon Zero Dawn is one. The premise of the story is obvious as the hours go on but I don't know why and how it came about. I don't know why the protag was rejected by the people who found her. The world is familiar yet strange. The game straight away tickles the mind; why, how? I want to know more. I began to form theories, plausibilities to explain the world. I'm eager to learn the lore of this world. The combat is dynamic, gripping. It's exciting to watch streamers go against the mobs. ACO makes me want to sleep. Nothing I've seen so far tickles the mind. This is imo, of course. I'm kind of sad because I enjoyed AC I, II, ACB, ACV, and III. The third was trying for me, admittedly. I felt I have enough, the main protag's story is finished anyway in Revelations, and never bothered with the rest.

I ran into one yesterday and panicked. At first I tried to run away but then remembered the last time I tried that they killed me with one fucking arrow, but luckily it was just one guy this time and I had levelled up quite a bit since then, so I hopped off my horse and he did the same and I just fought him. I was so panicked and such a spazz, but I got a lucky hit in there with my sword at the end and killed him. I couldn't believe I actually beat him, I think I was at level 18 or 19. I'm still avoiding them like the plague until I'm at a much higher level. Also, you can make Senu do a barrel roll.

I watched Conan’s Clueless Gamer preview of the Origin, and I like how Bayek looks, but they also showed a really odd animation a couple of times, not sure if it’s a bug or a feature. The character sort of flies in a weird way. I can see myself enjoying playing the guy, but the content does not sound like an AC game at all. It sounds like a fantasy game with far too much OW and all the leveling up/gearing up stuff and the way you guys talk about it, it’s emphasis is not on missions even. I dunno. I think I can easily wait till it goes on sale if I manage the rest of them.
I am sort of all gamed out for now anyway and ready for a break. Nothing really excites me, and I just get irritated by things I do not like, and it’s dumb, so... need to give it time.

Beat it. While certain tombs with optional content saved the experience, it was still underwhelming in so many ways (SPOILERS POSSIBLE AHEAD):
- combat was far too arcadey, never felt like I was an assassin or even the forebearer to the name - stealth was rudimentary at best with limited animations, creativity, and a lack of social blending - the historical story falls apart - the modern day story is still just being teased - level gating stealth kills - the exploration, while fun, takes away from the focus of being an assassin - side quests are beyond dull... and I am sick of carrying people
This is not to say there wasn’t some good:
- fire physics were surprising - hunting was fun - tombs were the best thing in the game... and then an optional story teasing implies some mind blowing events - horse travel is the best in any game
It edges out AC3 at least, but it is a bottom half tier AC title. Hiw sone think this is the best... well, I don’t think they want an AC game at all and want the franchise to lose its identity. That is the only way I can get the praise.

I'm taking my time, usually surgically taking out the guards like a ghost. But then there was one small outpost with only one piece of juicy loot. So I thought sod it, ran in and grabbed it then ran for my camel...

Playing Syndicate. Found the fight club at level 9. That was the only activity, when the controls and the combat felt not too terrible.

Out of curiosity, I checked Steam reviews for ACO. While there're positives, there're complaints about double DRMs clogging up CPU usage, making the game unplayable for them. Either it starts and crashes later or never start at all. Frame rates are low.
I've little info / knowledge about DRMs but can they do that? Deliberately ramp up CPU usage to a 100%?

This has been claimed about Denuvo numerous times. I honestly don't have the tech knowledge to know if that's possible, but I can say this game isn't as optimized as other open world games I've played. My rig can max TW3 pretty easily and keep 60 fps. No way can I do that with Origins. I have it on very high and it hovers around 50-60. Which isn't terrible, but I do hope they can patch in improvements.

There are so many ties into the established lore for those who’ve been aboard throughout the series. I love the open world, and I’ve even come to like the combat, as I’d hoped. I like how most of the side missions tie into the main narrative. Other times, it’s just Bayek being a good medjay. I suspect that some I’ve helped along the way will be returning the favor before the story ends. I eliminated a few more targets, today. I did tons of great side stories, and also eliminated two of the phylakes. I’ll be heading to Giza, tomorrow. I’ve been admiring those pyramids from afar for days, drawing ever closer. I look forward to the journey south and exploring Giza upon arrival. I’ve been sharing lots of pics, today. Some are comical, some more artistic. I am really enjoying this game.

I love how she watches my back and helps me hunt of her own initiative. I killed Ptolemy’s Fist (Lvl 22, hammer) in a face-to-face duel in an irrigated field. The Lvl 20 dude (sword and board) I ambushed in Alexandria. He was half-dead before he knew what was happening. It’s a good thing, too, since he was a tough fighter. I can’t wait to run into the next guy. I love how the drama ramps up when they get within 100 meters. I also like how NPCs keep warning me about these guys. One day, maybe I’ll roll my eyes. On my first PT, though, it adds to the fun.

OMG, small quiver... that makes me break out in cold sweat remembering the Prey with its 8 bullets clip. Haha! It’s not too bad. You have four different types of bows, and every type has it’s own pool of arrows. You can equip two bows at once. You can also swap out equipment at anytime, as long as you’re not under immediate attack. This means that you’re unlikely to run out of ranged options during a battle. There are also arrow bins near any camp, garrison or archer perch, so free replenishment is easy. I maxed out my quiver capacity pretty quickly. It reaches full potential much more quickly than the damage/armor related gear. Those all have higher ceilings. I actually came back to the thread to comment on the incredible fire and water effects in this game. They’re stunning. I think Unity is still the most beautiful game in the series, but elements of this game are very nice.

Did not have any time to play yesterday, so just turned AC2 on to get a bit of gold pile up in the Uncle Draculo’s villa, found up I am not in Venice, but in Fioli, had the game crash twice while leaping to the same glyph there (?) but got it on the third time, went back to the vila and reinvested everything into the stronghold. Hope he won’thave to drive back into Fioli, but can fast travel.
Don Ezio looks completely ridiculous now, with more layers than a backcountry hiker on him. The cloak in particular looks dreadful.
I intend to explore and do the tomb before I absolutely have to return to the dreadful main plot of the game. Maybe even max out the villa finally, so I can pile up money and buy more gear.

Ooh, thanks. But that's kinda BS that's not in the game. Well... the Ubisoft Club link is in the game's main menu and it opens from there (on Xbox) so it's kind of connected and fairly seamless but no it's not 'in' the game, it's adjacent to the game.

Now I feel that I must check my statistics. I, too, am Level 27. My playtime wil be so padded by exploration and refusal to fast travel. I just finished the critical path mission in Giza, and have that area completely tied up, for now. Time to head toward the next goal. Choosing to experience all of the side content guarantees being overleveled for the critical path. It's disappointing, since I want a challenge. Even the Phylakes are getting stomped. Hard is meaningless when you're 5+ levels higher than everyone and everything you fight. I hope they patch in an "Even Ground" type option that levels foes to at least even with Bayek. I believe TW3 eventually patched in this feature due to the same overleveling issue. In my opinion, this is a good reason not to have leveled challenges in an open world game. It does tell me that those who feared they'd have to play all of the content in order to keep up should have few worries. The game is easy enough, and the XP abundant enough, that this shouldn't be an issue.

So what melee weapon do you guys like? I've loved the staffs so far. You get pretty fast short range attacks and a long range hammer style attack. Plus, makes Bayek feel like a warrior monk.

It's somewhat terrifying to hear that horn blow and see them 100 meters away riding fast when you're in the middle of a fight with 3 hippos in a swamp. Did end up being an incredibly memorable experience though Phylakes are a pretty good incentive to stay stealthy honestly- if you leave a trail of destruction, I'm pretty sure they track it...resulting in them showing up at some inopportune moments. :S I fought my third one while taking down a military camp. I was trying out a new bow, not trying to be particularly careful. They set off the signal fire and I cut down a bunch of dudes with my poisonous khopesh. The phylake tore in on his horse, announcing he was there to help. I hid in some brush, and let the new arrivals inspect my poisonous death cloud. I headshotted his two partners almost simultaneously and then kicked his ass. The poison had hurt him, and I landed a hidden blade attack as he searched for the sniper. He dropped pretty quickly. Each fight, because they're dangerous, feels worthy of a story. So what melee weapon do you guys like? I've loved the staffs so far. You get pretty fast short range attacks and a long range hammer style attack. Plus, makes Bayek feel like a warrior monk. I have a ton of legendaries, but not all are near my level. I have about 7 legendary bows, which is awesome but impossible to maintain. I have an equally absurd number of melee weapons and shields. I still don't have a single spear that's worth a damn. I mostly use my poisonous khopesh and a shield. My secondary weapon is a flaming scepter that I received for helping the orphan trader. (I can't recall his name, at the moment. Cool kid.) I've been maintaining my khopesh, and lucking out and finding level-appropriate bows and shields as I go (many of them legendary, as I said). I really want a legendary spear. Fire or poison would be epic, but anything would be great. I do lots of mounted combat, so a spear would get much use. I want to make a point of using more of a variety of weapons. I'll maybe start swapping in some lower level stuff when I'm fighting lower-level goons. My favorites are definitely the swords and shields. I love the defensive boost afforded by the shield and the parrying and blocking perks. The swords are a perfect blend of speed and power. For ranged I use all my bows, but favor my predator and warrior bows. I'm one-shooting crocodiles and hippos, now, let alone humans. The warrior bow is awesome to have against shielded guys. Blast them back and cut them down. It also sends hippos scurrying more times than not, though I don't let my crafting materials escape. The perks I like most are fire and poison. Setting things alight is always advantageous. (I even have a flaming predator bow!) Poison is ridiculously good because it's ongoing damage that never stops. It even leaves a death cloud to infect new arrivals. I tend to favor poison, unless I'm fighting a foe that hates fire. Hippos panic when set alight, and burn quickly. Same for crocs. I wish I had more money. I disassemble most items for the materials, and this has served my well. I think I might need to start selling some, though, if I want to be able to maintain even two of my favorite legendaries. For mounts, what do you guys like? I've been using my horse from the beginning. I did get unseated several times in the last two hours I played. I've heard anecdotes suggesting horses are faster, and camels prevent unseating. Do you guys have opinions? EDIT: dazk , this thread might interest you. Alternatively, it might incite you to spend money precipitously. Be strong and exercise restraint; but enjoy the thread. 😉
