I have no problem that people buy games with microtransactions. I however rather not and the question is a simple one. Do transactions stop over time or not? I did not see anything that said they are temporary.

For me frustrating the player through grind load is the main concern, but if they overdo it, they will lose the advantage SP games have over the MP... so I hope they will remain reasonable.

This game uses microtransactions and is holding me from buying for that reason. Does the use of microtransactions ever end over time or is it everlasting feature? Sounds to be an enjoyable game otherwise. Entirely benign. Except for a few lore-unfriendly items (Unicorn is one?) everything is there to find in the world. The ranting I've seen online about this is totally over-stated in my view. I've bought nothing from the store and felt no need to do so.

Really? I hated everything about that DLC. It had no redeeming qualities for me. I liked the story but hated the mechanics. It was the feel that it generated for a lack of a better phrase, I hated it but liked that a game could make me feel that if that makes sense. I get that. The atmosphere, the feeling that DLC gave me, was pretty strong. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it. It made me feel mildly soiled to play as Jack.

I have no problem that people buy games with microtransactions. I however rather not and the question is a simple one. Do transactions stop over time or not? Have no fear. Only the first part is a reply to your question. This game doesn’t really employ microtransactions. There are weapon packs and the like available, much as the Mass Effect series periodically released very good weapons via similarly priced DLC. The game in no way requires any of these items, nor can it be compared to a “pay to win” competitive MP situation. I’d recommend not letting internet misinformation keep you from trying this game. Honestly, I’d been thinking of this issue because of the game’s main screen advertisements for paid content. If microtransactions could generally be done in this fashion, I’d have no problem with it. It’s basically an a la carte assortment of gear and the like. Anyone who buys drachmas with real money is an idiot. I have a horde of legendary weapons maxed at Level 40, and I’ve spent no real money. If players who spend on “Helix creds” learn to manage the in-game economy, they’ll be fine. Of course, anyone who buys in-game money with real money probably doesn’t have a good grasp on any finances. Anyway, I’m rambling. Microtransactions aren’t going away, but AC Origins’ are very unobtrusive. They’re “microtransactions done right”, as unpalatable as that sounds. Welcome to 2017, my friends. Quasi-review of my playthrough follows: I’ve been away a few days and haven’t updated my progress. I completed the game 100% and earned the platinum trophy yesterday. I really enjoyed this game. I’ll be playing it for years to come. I think the weakest part of the game is the chaotic beginning that almost tries to confuse the player. The story really takes off quickly once your first target is dead. Side quests are essential to fully appreciate the story, in my opinion. They add a ton of depth to the struggle against the Order of the Ancients. The last few missions weren’t quite as sparkling as the bulk of the game. They did a good job of rounding out the story, though; and of laying a strong foundation for any number of future stories. I really like Bayek. Ezio has always been by far my favorite protagonist in this series. Bayek is at least as likable as Ezio, and a more realistic character in many ways. This is the most impressive open world in which I’ve played. The world was stunning and feels fully alive. They’ve always been aiming for this feeling, and started really achieving it with Unity. This game takes the life cycles and attention to detail to a whole new level. Even the animals are animated and behave in a strikingly believable fashion. (There are exceptions, like hippos swimming in deep water and a couple large “packs” of leopards.) The technical superiority of this open world over others makes sense considering it’s newer; but the AC teams have always been able to craft a beautiful, believable world. There is so much great stuff in this game that it’s hard to list it all. Exploring tombs; exploring natural environments; moving through stunning, living cities; working alongside the many varied NPCs; sailing the Mediterranean, the Nile and it’s tributaries and lakes; superbly designed mounts, whether horses, camels or chariots... I could go on longer. They did so much right with this game. (The story included, though I’ll not discuss anything specific.) I really grew to enjoy the combat, despite early misgivings. It’s not the counter-attack cakewalk of the early entries, but it’s still really easy. (I played it on Hard, and was only challenged by the twin war elephants and Anubis in the Helix Glitch. Anubis was easy, but you had to play flawlessly on Hard to survive.) It’s as much about your weapon as your skill. If you have a little of both, you’re unstoppable. So, I don’t think it quite achieved what they’d hoped; but I do think it’s an improvement. There are some areas for improvement. The mounts control wonderfully, but seemingly at the cost of stiff animations. Those could definitely be improved. The original AC had very well done horses a decade ago. I will say that camels are much better animated than horses in Origins. They seem much more alive, and even have a little personality. I noticed that Aya’s animations didn’t seem as well crafted as Bayek’s. This is likely due to his role as our protagonist; but Aya was too important to have any iffy animations. I’d like to see no more hippos in deep water and no more leopard packs. This series is known for its admirable attention to detail. They accurately reconstructed the pyramids in this game. They should try to get the wildlife as close to accurate as possible. At the very least, these two silly situations should be cleaned up, assuming that’s even applicable next time. The intro was very poorly written and presented. I can’t explain it without spoilers, but those who played it likely know what I mean. I understood what was happening, but it wasn’t intuitive or well done. The final 10% of the game moved too quickly. It even departed from a few important gameplay mechanics at times. It could’ve been written better. All in all, this is an excellent game. It is very good in its own right, considered as a stand alone. As part of the whole IP, I enjoyed the thorough fidelity to established lore from beginning to end. There were so many moments in which a longtime AC fan could only smile at some lore revelation/“origin”. I feel this was the best written AC in a very long time. AC 4 was well done, but this game is better in terms of content, gameplay and importance to the story. That being the case, I’d say the team exceeded their achievements with Black Flag and reinvigorated the IP. If I hadn’t had HZD: The Frozen Wilds waiting on me, I’d have jumped into a second PT today. One final note on that: We’re back to having three separate save slots for independent playthroughs. No more saving your complete save to a flash drive, deleting to replay, and then restoring it. That stupid design is gone, thankfully.

The ranting I've seen online about this is totally over-stated in my view. I've bought nothing from the store and felt no need to do so. I won’t lie. I’d buy that fancy camel if he were just slightly cheaper. He’s a stud! I hate that I can’t land a legendary camel until late game. I do not waste ability points on crap like “merchants sell better stuff” until I’ve acquired nearly every real skill that could be useful. I meant to mention this in my critique of the game. “Merchants stock better stuff” should not be a skill. It should just be the norm. Who cares if a Level 10 character wants to waste his whole bank on a mount? Alternatively, it should be progression-based. It definitely should not cost skill points. I also think the “automatically loot your kill” skills are dumb. Make it standard if you think it’s worthwhile. Otherwise, just have us loot bodies. These skills should cost “1 skill point” tops, if any.

Last post here tonight:
Anyone else defeat Anubis today? The “Trials of the Gods” event launched today. Anubis gives a nice-looking and effective sword if you beat him. The fight was not at all what I’d expected. I hope this “Trials” loot carries across PTs, since it’s linked to UPlay. More legendaries in the across-PT armory would be welcome.

I was torn between the two OCD impulses, and the desire to finish AC2 won over playing Andromeda on N7.
So, i’ve finished AC2. In 2017.
Thoughts:
The two DLCs jammed before the end sequence did not improve the game, particularly the lacklustre Sforza and Forlì one.
The Bonfires with Savonarola was more interesting, basically feeling like a tribute to Altair and AC1, with Ezio going through the collection of nine sinners seduced by the power of the Apple, but it highlighted the weaker aspect of the AC2 for me vs AC1. Obviously, the scenes were far more lavish and the characters far more interesting in AC1. But barring that, Altair was consistent. He had sort of a detached curiosity and a shade of doubt. He managed to convey a dispassionate regret of sorts. Ezio was all over the place, telling some men it was not their fault, telling another he should have resisted, and coming down hard on others.
Savonarola’s expose cutscene did not do the character justice at all. It was minuscule compared to the insane mad charisma the character possessed to through the whole city into the frenzy. Ezio’s speech foreswearing vengeance and not following anyone was cheesier than the Dawn Will Come scene in Inquisition...
The other thing that Ubisoft saved the florins on, and should not have had imo was only aging Ezio, but leaving his crew's models unchanged over the years, not even their outfits. They did a good job stripping the bloom of youth from Ezio, and in an economical way. My imagination did readily supply that he was also heavier-set, more powerful but slower as we fast-forwarded through his thirties and entered his forties. Seeing everyone else frozen in time and gathered in the same cutscene with aged Ezio thus was jarring.
I did like the mission design in the Savonarola DLC though, despite the ship stealth one making me scream in anger a few times, particularly when it seemed to go into the assassination screen, but then spit Ezio back on the roof instead not showing desynch.
And right after foreswearing vengeance, Ezio changed his mind and raced after Rodrigo with glee.
That’s were the DLC really hurt the game, because the beat of the events, the pace was unmistakable, and it just made me sad I lost it with the detour. I loved that end sequence, arriving battered and with half-shattered armor and shooting Rodrigo in the chapel from the high platform. Oh, how I wished I used the pistol more! Darn silly of me... thing is, even after two games, I have no idea how to throw the daggers, but shooting is easy.
Anyway, the last battle was fun, but the sci-fi bit was an inferior take on the Battle Star Galactica's reveal...
Then I got more of Mr.Dull and Miss Lucy, and that was it.
I do wish the tombs were easier for a casual, because that would have improved my game a lot to have that Altair’s tribute. And, in the end, I still feel that despite undeniably being very entertaining, AC2 does not hold up to the benchmarks set by the AC1 in terms of pacing, effectiveness of the cutscene, interesting characters and a compelling lead.

could not resist peeking at Brotherhood yesterday, while starting on Bound By Flame.
I liked how they retextured the avatars and Ezio's new beard is superior to the late AC2 beard. But, boy, it seems to pick up just where the AC2 left off.
I'll need a few days at least till I want to see the Uncle Draculo's villa again, and restart the hunt for whoever is still left alive in Italy.

Done with the main story of Origins. Main story is varying in quality, sometimes being really weirdly paced and sometimes just nailing it completely but in the end it and the game did far better than I expected that it would. Largest issue beside pacing is really that I would've loved to see much more towards the end instead of moving forward THAT much in time. Either saved some of it for a possible sequel or just.. padded it out a tiny bit more. Game doesn't dethrone Black Flag as the most fun I've had in an AC game but it comes decently close and I'm sure I will return to the game sooner rather than later. Just so much left to do and I've been very thorough!

So the story is not clicking for me. It's average at best. Then I recall this. Well done Ubi. I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic. I like the story. I think it was good. It wasn’t perfect, but no games are. It’s concepts, internal logic, fidelity to established lore and creativity in tying it all in smoothly are all praiseworthy. My only real criticism would be that I didn’t really like the fragmented flashback approach used to introduce Bayek's backstory. It’s all wrapped up in the Siwa introduction, so no big deal. Also, the ending lost a bit of steam and the pacing was off. The content of the intro and ending were excellent, the execution was just a bit off. I feel the enemies were mostly interesting, with the Crocodile being the standout. Those were schemes and machinations to make any amoral Templar proud. I think this game laid a great foundation for future stories. I hope we see Bayek again. For me, they absolutely succeeded in the goal of writing characters with whom I enjoyed spending 80 hours; and I’d like to see more of them. These were the most well developed, human characters the series has ever featured. Bayek felt like a real man, despite doing some borderline super hero stuff in-game. It sounds like this was Alain Mercieca’s first game. Very impressive work. Bravo for him, the team and whoever chose him. AC has needed this improved writing for a long time.

I've been enjoying the side content.
It's rarely 'fetch 20 leopard pelts'.
Most side-quests have something additional or a twist to them. Most were worth the time spent completing them.

Many of the side quests were in some way connected to Bayek's main goal of hunting down the members of the Serpent even if it was just to show what a negative impact the organization has on Egypt, and they were all so varied it made them fun to complete. The game is so beautiful and Bayek so likeable it's very hard for me not to enjoy every minute of this game. Even something like the Stone Circle quest was fun because of Bayek's personal connection to it and the fun connection to the Sphinx.

The game requires some amount of 'leveling up' as prior games expected you 'upgrade' your assassin. The main plot appears to grant more XP than the side content. If you want to speed through in 30-40 hours (and maybe could you do it still faster), then you could set it to 'Easy' and focus mostly on the critical path. I'm savoring the game (not even using Fast Travel) and have been playing for 114 hours so far (at 80%).

When I clear a fort, I clear a fort. Usually by stealth, and I don't mind waiting in bushes... No way. It's been only 2 weeks since release, and you have already played for 100+ hrs. This is something out of this world for me!

It's more the main story and villains that feel underwhelming to me. I think the game suffers from not having a codex as well. I break from the story for long periods and when i get back to main missions I feel lost. Bayek and Aya are great though. I actually wish there was more dialog and cutscenes when they're involved.
