Okay, with the clubs just raking in the dough, I think I've finally got all the upgrades I want. The King's execution drew... a pretty impressive crowd. Now that I'm drawing nearer the end the main storyline, I've come to the realization that... I kinda hate everyone. Take for example - Elise. Just kind of annoying, and doggedly determined to get herself killed in every mission we're together in. And this scene right here is the kiss of death. As soon as she said that... you know she's gonna die. Bye Elise. And now onto the useless Brotherhood. Oh, Arno's getting kicked out and they literally don't even want to hear about the Templar Master Plan. Cool, cool... Arno gets drunk - again. Elise comes back - yay. But at least Arno has his broken watch back - woo.

Yeah story and characters were a great let down, the combat was fun, the climbing was fun and the Paris environment is beautiful and like Kaidan Fan I was tempted to play it again after reading your posts but........... no just can't get past playing Arno for a start and the story is just not engaging enough. So like Syndicate it will remain one of the two later AC games I never replayed like AC1.

And just a big step up from Rogue in overall fidelity. Though nearing the end, I miss the "room to breathe" we have in the later games like Origins and Odyssey. It's just that without any real investment in the characters in it, it's a bit of a grind. And I'm certainly not picking up the hundreds of useless chests in the game. I did that in Syndicate - never again.

Of the two, I think Syndicate did a much better job. While I hated Jacob, I really liked Evie. And I liked the nuance it actually gave both sides, from Evie seeing the fallout and chaos caused by Jacob this the Assassins, to Starrick (who was just awesome) being a Templar who cared more about the civilians than Jacob did in scenes like him using his fortune to give all his employees raised to combat the inflation caused “Would do it for all of London if I could.”

Finished up the main storyline late last night, and it went, well... pretty much exactly as expected. Yeah, that was a busy fort. And just as I expected... Fancy new outfit at the end though, and we get to keep the sword. Was really disappointed, but not unexpected, that the sword didn't keep it's lightning powers though. It is top tier though, so still worth keeping. And now onto Dead Kings.

Hrungr in regards to Elise I think if she had she been the lead assassin in the game she would have been better than Arno who I think is the weakest of all the assassins and that would have led to her have a better and more rounded character. I also think it's hard to compare her to Kass, they operate in different worlds and yes Kass is far better than Elise but she is the star and her writing and all round development is in a setting that allows for that, if that makes sense. Evie is great too and again benefits from a larger role than Elise, Evie just has such a good personality. I also really liked Lydia in the Syndicate DLC, stoic, driven personalities like Evie with a good sense of humour. Aveline from Liberation is great too, shame the game was IMO just OK.

Very much. When a character buys it because of a meaningful tragic event or decision, or a character flaw or a noble sacrifice, I get it. But Elise just seemed to be thrown away by an unwarranted plot contrivance to be edgy. It very much soured the game for me. Coming off Rogue which I didn't enjoy either (Adéwalé? You're kidding me?) it took Syndicate to be an enjoyable return to form for me.

I gotta disagree. I found Elisse to be insufferable. Arno was incredibly boring to me until about halfway through when it seemed he finally found himself. He probably is my least favorite of the assassins but that in no way means I disliked him, because I liked him okay. I also have the least play throughs of Unity (only twice) but I enjoyed the game very much (aside from having to wait almost 4 months for it to be playable on PC). I do think I still need to play it again though

I think Unity would have been better if like Rogue it was played from a Templar perspective. Sort of an inverse of Assassin's Creed 3, with an Assassin during the American Revolution. The Templars and Assassins could have actually been involved too, with the Assassins helping the revolution like in the trailers while the Templars could be trying to stop it. Instead, we have the Assassins do nothing while the Templars are overthrown by a coup of radicals.

I really miss the Assassin's vs Templar aspect of the game. While I have absolutely loved some of the Templar characters, I've always enjoyed being an assassin Playing as Haytham and Shay gives an inside perspective. I think it's good to get to see both sides every now and then.

Aaaand... done. In the positive column, they put in a ton of effort into Paris and the secondary locations. And not just the cluttered streets, buildings, and crowds, but the wide variety of NPC animations. It was fun to occasionally just take a lazy stroll down the street to see what people got up to. I even followed one character as she walked through a couple of districts, stopped to talk to the odd group, poked around the market, a quick hug here and there, waving to others, etc.. A lot of variety in major NPC appearances as well. In some RPGs, characters can all have a similar feel to them (same body types, similar features). The lighting in the game was okay, nothing special, but I did appreciate having a day/night cycle where the nights could get very dark depending on where you were in the city. Combat overall was good. It's an AC game, so the basics are all quite familiar. No tranq weapons though which was a bit of a surprise. But the silent mini-crossbow was a welcome addition. With that, the noisy pistol/rifle didn't get as much use. Tried various melee weapons, they're all serviceable. I held onto the spear for a while, but the sword remained my mainstay. In the mixed column, parkour was serviceable, but it's never felt really good in AC. Even late game, I still get clamber up things I didn't mean to, get hung up on simple boxes and such and it's an effort to get off things. Even getting down ladders can be frustrating. But when you get a good parkour flow going, it does feel good. But I stick to the streets as much as possible because it can be a slog going across rooftops. Although it's probably heresy to say so, my favorite parkour was in Syndicate. And that's only because of the grapple gun made rooftop traversal semi-fun. Most of the missions were the same old, same old AC stuff. There were a few highlights - the balloon chase, the glitch intermission missions (climbing the Eiffel Tower, etc.), and the confessional assassination. In the negative column, the storyline was pretty uninspired, and I wound up hating most the characters in it. But I've gone over that already... Stealth is problematic and parkour issues often compounded them. Berserk darts, smoke bombs, sparklers, stealth kill darts are your friends here. My melee skills are good so I was never worried about straight-up fights, except for those who hung back to shoot you. Which brings me to the frustration that anyone with a gun (guards/thugs) will happily open fire into crowds without a second thought. Another issue was that some missions required abilities/tools you might not have to 100% them, because you picked your own in this one. In previous games, they made sure you acquired all that you needed to 100% missions.

I think it's good to get to see both sides every now and then. Yeah, it's good to see both sides. Either as the protagonist (Haytham, Shay), interacting with members of the other side beyond the death conversation (Connor and Haytham, Arno and Elise), or at the very least showing the moral grayness of both sides by showing the good in your enemy and the in yours. I hope eventually with the RPG elements we can play protagonists who can choose what side to join.

I hope eventually with the RPG elements we can play protagonists who can choose what side to join. That's actually a terrific idea (if hard to pull off). Thanks. And there are a few ways I think they could do it while lessening the difficulty. For example maybe the first half of the game is one of the ones where you interact (unknowingly or knowingly) with members of both sides but it's not until later where you have to choose. That cuts down on resources since the first part of the game is the same, and also does thing like establish the grayness of both sides since you knew some of both before you became enemies.

Jason Schreier @jasonschreierWhoaaaa Ubisoft just announced that Serge Hascoet, the most powerful creative force at their company and the man at the center of multiple recent allegations involving abuse and abating abusers, is resigning. Top Ubisoft executives Yannis Mallat (head of Canadian studios) and Cecile Cornet (head of HR) are also gone. Ubisoft is cleaning house. This is a *huge* deal for Ubisoft. Serge Hascoet was the man in charge of ALL of their games. With one word he could greenlight or cancel a project. Many Ubisoft employees believed he was too powerful and close to the CEO to ever be ousted, no matter how many allegations emerged. Anyway, I've been spending the past few weeks talking to dozens of current and former Ubisoft employees about all this for a story that will be up in the near future. Most of them thought Hascoet was untouchable - this is a stunner. In an internal message to employees tonight, Yves Guillemot said he will "personally oversee a complete overhaul" of Ubisoft's creative Editorial team, and that his "goal is to create an inclusive and open culture that embraces more diverse and multidisciplinary expertise" Ubisoft has confirmed to Bloomberg News that Serge Hascoet is leaving the company, not just his role. Shannon Liao @shannon_LiaoThree Ubisoft execs are departing. “I am committed to implementing profound changes across the company to improve and strengthen our workplace culture,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. I've been playing AC Syndicate the last couple of weeks. It's my first AC game. I'm working on liberating my last district and have finished Evie's sequence 7 memories. I'm kind of putting off finishing the main story for now, because I know the remaining memories (aside from 1?) are all Jacob. I don't mind playing him occasionally, but I greatly prefer Evie and her superior knife and stealth skills. It's kind of shitty that Jacob has so many more of the main memories, and I wish they'd balanced it out. I finished Dreadful Crimes DLC yesterday and bought Jack the Ripper, although I think I will do that one once I finish the main game. I bought Odyssey on sale as well, and although I was initially excited for Valhalla due to the setting, from what I'm now hearing about it, I'm glad I didn't preorder. Might still get it eventually, just not at full price.

Might still get it eventually, just not at full price. What's putting you off Valhalla? Odyssey is great and Kassandra and her VA are really good IMHO. It's very different to the earlier games like Syndicate but for the better, again IMO. And yes Evie is much better than Jacob. As Hanako Ikezawa said definitely play Jack The Ripper after finishing, it's pretty full on, I liked it.

What's putting you off Valhalla? From what I have heard, stealth isn't going to be a focus of the game anymore, and instead there will be large-scale sieges to take part in. Not to say that it'll be a bad game, but I had visions of sneaking around a stave church, knifing people from the shadows, and it doesn't look like that's what this game is.
