I'm glad Odyssey had a choice, since I prefer Alexios over Kassandra by a huge margin. Also, Evie played just as big a role the game and story in Syndicate as Jacob. More so imo since she was the level headed one fixing his screw ups Aya had a decent amount of screen time, but I didn't like her. I find her almost as unlikeable as Layla. I'm glad the games are offering a choice (since I'll probably go male Eivor first again ) Don't forget about Aveline too, who was a great character. I loved her I haven't read the story, but I have seen many tweets and articles about stuff that was going on at Ubisoft and I hope they continue to improve their work environment to make it less hostile to women and treat them with the respect they deserve.

My preference has always been one canon character regardless of gender. It sucks that's we have been robbed of a sole female protagonist (I don't the count side games) in the past, unfortunately the article won't change anything. Assassin's Creed has now been labeled a full blown RPG franchise now. Which include gender options those who want a female only lead game probably won't get one.

I agree except I prefer Kassandra to Alexios although I also enjoyed my PT as Alexios but it took me playing him very differently to how I play Kass. Evie was great as was the ancestor Lydia (?) in the DLC and Aya was hard to like especially as she was sort of thrown at you with not much intro but a bit like Jacb it was more that I didn't like how playing Aya (like Ciri in TW3) made you have to play differently without any choice. Plus she having been a minor part dictates a major decision that seemed silly to me at the end. Aveline I would have liked more if the game had been more to my liking, it was a good game I just didn't enjoy the story very much.

Also, Evie played just as big a role the game and story in Syndicate as Jacob. More so imo since she was the level headed one fixing his screw ups I just got done playing Syndicate a few days ago so it's fresh in my mind, and I thought it was very noticeable how little scripted screen time Evie got compared to Jacob. I went through and counted, and of the main story missions, 23 are for Jacob, 11 are for Evie, 2 can be played with either character, and 1 (the final mission) you play with both. Of course you can do all the side quests with Evie if you want, but it's not as if the game acknowledges that. In fact, when the twins have their big fight and Jacob sarcastically asks what Evie has been doing all this time while he was cleaning up London, her only answer was that she was cleaning up his mistakes. Which just makes it seem like all her actions have been about Jacob. No mention of anything else the player might have had her do, not even freeing the child laborers, which was something that Evie had agreed to when they met with Clara. Evie's big role in Jack the Ripper helped even it out, except now you're spending extra money just to get equal screen time for the female protagonist.

Aya was hard to like especially as she was sort of thrown at you with not much intro What is left of Aya in the game is basically what they didn't have the time to rework/remove after the executives said "make the MC male". She's the original MC of Origins while Bayek was supposed to die early in the story. She's relevant to pre-existing history of the setting (Amunet creating the Hidden Ones/Assassins) so they had to keep her around until the end. It's mentioned in Jason Schreier's paywalled article and confirmed on twitter by another ex-employee who worked on the game. Since learning that, my reaction after you encounter Aya in Alexandria for the first time was clearly on point. It was "she act like the man of the family and Bayek is the wive".

Well Unisoft isn't brave but they're not altogether wrong in thinking some guys just won't buy the game if Kass is the only playable char. I've seen the comments; yeah not buying the game if there's only the female lead or I'm not comfortable playing a female char, etc. Whatever. I'm not picky. If there's a choice. Hurray. If there isn't, ok. The main ingredients of a game is; is the story good? Are the chars good? Is the game play good? If they're filled. Hurray.

But I'm not going to avoid games that don't allow me to do so if I think I will enjoy the game otherwise. How unfortunate that the devs felt they had to kowtow to little boys who can't imagine playing as a woman.

I prefer games that give the player a choice between male and female character. It directly affects my decision whether to buy the game. Not to say I don't play games that don't give that option... Technomancer was great for example, but would've obviously been even better and more replayable if it had that option. I also liked Witcher 3's world, story and gameplay even though I don't like Geralt as a character (the VA is great though!) and would've preferred it if you could play the entire game as Ciri.
In Odyssey I chose Alexious over Kassandra... though I regret that a little bit now since apparently Kass is supposed to be the canon character. In Valhalla I'm going to choose female Eivor. She looks awesome and Eivor is a female name.

I'm giving Black Flag another go. I never got further than first arriving in Havana before. So I've got all the ticks in the first area Cape Bonavista, or have I? i.imgur.com/P8RoLu8.jpgDo you get another tick if you kill all the animals, or is that just showing you what kind of animals are there? I tried to hunt the jaguar, but I get to where the map shows it is (within 5 meters) and it's not there, pressing V shows the monkeys in red, but there is no jaguar anywhere in the area.

That just shows what animals you can find there. If you leave and come back to an area, you can find more. But... sometimes they won't show up in the indicated areas and appear elsewhere. Some animals only appear rarely. In some cases I've never found an indicated animal.

If you find a high spot or a bush and hide and be patient the animals usually have a fixed loop/path and will show up usually after a short while. The Jaguar you are hunting, which one is it, there are a few big cats and i may be able to remember exactly where they are and when they spawn. This page may be useful as well. www.ign.com/wikis/assassins-creed-4-black-flag/Hunting_and_Harpooning#Harpooning_Animal_Locations

I hope Ubi do not suddenly decide the next AC would be in Japan after seeing the success of GOT. They would be smart to leave it for much much later if they want to do that.

Personally I'm hoping they'll branch outside of Europe (& North America) for a while.

I am not sure of the history timeline but would Rome be an option for the next location or is Viking England post Roman Empire? Depends how you define Roman Empire. It's post Western Roman Empire (fell in 470-480 AD), but the Eastern one (aka Byzantine Empire) ended in 1453 AD. Valhalla start in 873 AD. But it doesn't matter that much, Origins is set after Odyssey in the timeline.

I am not sure of the history timeline but would Rome be an option for the next location or is Viking England post Roman Empire? The Roman era existed 1500 years before the Vikings. By the time the Vikings invaded, the Anglo-Saxons had absorbed the local Britons and Roman law. There're a few era Ubisoft could choose. Mongolians, Rus (early Russia), Babylon, The Golden Age of Islam (the time of Harun al-Rashid), Korea, to name some.

I just took my first fort, so I was feeling pretty good. Apparently it was an easy one, but they weren't the ones getting fired upon. i.imgur.com/jSbeKnk.jpgThen this happened. i.imgur.com/DRHJ44u.jpgThe bloody optional objectives only showed up after I had sunk 7 of the 8 ships, so no way to take out two with one broadside. So now I'm not happy.
