Ok so, not sure... if this is... what people necessarily want to see, but I know there were some FF fans on the BSN in random places and so I was thinking hm, maybe a fun idea.
For those who don't know, we are up to FFXV, so quite a ways from where we started!
Of course, FF is a huge franchise though, literally between spin offs and other things we're up to... well screw it I don't know what we're up to, a ton, basically.
So! Any other fans, etc, looking forward to the next entry?

I loved FF7,8 and 9. The Franchise has gone down hill since. 10 was a decent game but it didnt grip me like the previous 3. I never really got into 12 and the less I say about 13 the better...
For me the last true Final Fantasy was Lost Odyssey. It felt like the older games but with better graphics.
I am looking forward to 15 and the 7 remake even more so.

Never understood FF, never liked it, even though I like Fantasy genre.
Stupid weapons, stupid outfits, stupid characters, retarded dialogue, nothing makes any sense, tons of pointless minigames, plotholes everywhere. Meh.

In terms of story, characters, dialogue and overall aesthetic it's reminiscent of ASoIAF.

I can't wait for FF15 to flop since the chances of it meeting the required sales(which would now be over FF7s lifetime sales) is very small considering the rep SE has these days. Never understood FF, never liked it, even though I like Fantasy genre. Stupid weapons, stupid outfits, stupid characters, retarded dialogue, nothing makes any sense, tons of pointless minigames, plotholes everywhere. Meh. Did you at least play 4,6 and 9?

I tried pretty much all of the at one time or another. Could get into any of them. As for 9. just seeing the artwork of furies and stupid looking metal dudes makes me That's just me. Only played FF 13, 13 2 and Lightning Returns.. I liked them well enough but to old fans of the games the new ones must be like cancer or something (or so I've heard).
Not sure if I will buy FF 15.. It looks great but the characters don't interest me one bit so far (maybe that changes.. don't know). However I am looking forward to the FF 7 remake (does it release for PC? If not I'm going to buy it for PS4).

And don't care about the direction the series went after PS1 era. Never understood FF, never liked it, even though I like Fantasy genre. Stupid weapons, stupid outfits, stupid characters, retarded dialogue, nothing makes any sense, tons of pointless minigames, plotholes everywhere. Meh. Play FFTactics the best FF. In terms of story, characters, dialogue and overall aesthetic it's reminiscent of ASoIAF. Except FFT gameplay isn't executed very well with random battles (in a SRPG?!) and how unbalanced it is (the too deep to fully test/balance out job system isn't helping either). Basically it's the style over substance SRPG. Even you yourself said it by only mentioning story, characters, dialogue and overall aesthetic. If you want an example of turn based SRPG done right (style and substance), check out the Shining Force series from the 90s by Camelot Software Planning on Sega Genesis (2), Sega CD (1), Game Gear (3), and Sega Saturn (3). Best entry level ones are SF2 & 3.

6,7,8, and 9 are my top FF games. 8 was probably the hardest of the four with the magic junction system and all. Plus, enemies leveled up with you which took me a while to realize during my first play through. The music in 8 I thought was some of the best along with FF9.

I didnt bother with Lightning Returns, because honestly; it was just ridiculous trying to follow a story that seemed to be ripping itself off and to the point it no longer made sense. And yeah. That fucking clock mini game that fans had to put a website together to decode. (In japanese so it came with an instruction manual for how to use the website if you dont speak japanese.) Gah. *Slams the door*

I'm looking forward to XV, sucks about the delay but hopefully it helps them to improve it a little more. Also looking forward to World of Final Fantasy as well, this fall should be pretty fun.

Gah. *Slams the door* Holy shit, don't remind me of that clock thing. That was the reason I only played the third game on easy (no time loss when you die -> it (the doom-timer) becomes a minor annoyance). Other than that and the ridiculous looking minor npc's with randomized accessories it was fun though. The second one was my least favourite and 13 was -as you said- good.

My first true videogame love was basically FF! I started with Final Fantasy 8 and was really captivated by it. Since then I played all following ones except the online games, and I played 1, 7, and started 2 and 6 (yeah, I never finished them, shame on me!). My favourites are 8, 9 and 10, 10 in particular, which is one of my favourite games of all time. I still liked 12 and 13/13-2 to some extent, but I'm just not that invested in the franchise anymore, and I really hope this changes with FF15. I have high hopes for this title because of Nomura's involvement, as I really like this guy's work with previous titles and the Kingdom Hearts series. Fun fact: When Lightning Returns came out I tried it for 1 or 2 hours and got frustrated with this damn time limit. In my frustration I replayed DAO instead and from there I kept playing BW games all the time Still haven't touched Lightning Returns, haha.

Plus thanks for the heads up on Shining force.

If your a fan of a much deeper & epic plot, you'll much more enjoy SF3 (spans across 3 disks released separately, but save file system like Mass Effect where decisions affect the other two games. But you'll need to apply fan translation patch for Scenario 2 & 3). And don't forget SF3 also has a prequel kind of story with regular turn based JRPG Shining the Holy Ark (also for Sega Saturn). So really, it's like 4 epic high fantasy games. I spent 10 months straight playing and replaying only these games alone once. One of the best times I've had gaming. I'd be like running on the threadmill at my local YMCA, and thinking how I couldn't wait to go home after to play some more.

4,6,9 and 10 (admittedly largely out of nostalgia) are the only ones I consider to be great myself. The rest vary between mediocre to downright awful. If I include the spin offs it's a bit more complicated what with how that some of them are practically new IP's.

I think it's one of the reasons that game stood out from the others. You could also say FF7 had some sic-fi elements too and maybe that influence was carried over into FF8. I spent 30 minutes last night on youtube listening to random tracks from FF8's soundtrack and it brought back so many memories. The music was one of the best things about that game in particular in my opinion. I would love it if there was a full orchestral version of THE ENTIRE soundtrack to FF8 but that would probably be asking for too much.

He was kinda an anti-social prick too and wasn't too interesting. He grew on me as a character further into the game's story and by the end he's all right with me. It could be worse though. He could be a chicken-wuss like Zell.

From what i'm reading about the series it's legit GOAT tier, and I checked out everything regarding the translation project too sf3trans.shiningforcecentral.com/. The ride never ends, now i have to hurry and finish the last few games in my vidya backlog. (not the steam sales i never play those)
