I used someone else's custom face, but, my Sara Ryder winds up being a blond white girl, and Alec looks like he's Clarence Williams 3rd's brother. So, I guess based on which preset head you used before making your own custom depends on how Alec looks, not how you finish it?

My Ryder family...it extrpolates based on the face number you choose. I used base Scott for first playthrough, then used a custom Sara for NG+. Sara had female face 9, so the game made dad use male face 9...also known as James Earl Jones. (pretty sure these neon white kids aren't his)  |

Correct. Alec's face is chosen by the preset you pick when first customizing your character, not whatever changes you make.

As others have suggested, Alec Ryder's likeness is based on what the original preset you picked looks like. It wouldn't be technically practical (nor would it be pretty) to try and alter Alec Ryder's looks based on your changes to your main Ryder sibling. Truth be told, it's largely a nonissue given Alec Ryder isn't actually in the game for very long.
If it's that much of an issue, stick with a preset that has the corresponding Alec Ryder look you prefer. Or, headcanon that you were adopted or recessive genes in your DNA made you look different?

The game needs an option in character creation to "Lock Fathers Appearance to Default"
