Like the title says which is the hardest starting fresh. I'll admit I've been playing fully leveled up Shep's for so long I haven't died in years but which do you remember having the most deaths and being the most difficult. If I had to guess I would say ME1 was the hardest. I do remember that Krogan boss in the save Liara mission kicking my butt pretty good. But I will admit that I died quite a bit in some battles like the first Kett base in Andromeda because you know getting used to the controls and the speed and where the ammo crates were Ha!. The first Kett base pretty much kicked my butt. I think if I did MP it probably wouldn't have been so bad because it seems like the maps are pretty MP. But yeah, I kinda sucked on that first base. Now that I'm level 80 nothing touches me even on the hardest setting unless I do something stupid. So what are your experiences, I want to hear all about it.

I don't think any of them. They were all pretty easy. Then again I am not one of those people who enjoy playing on Insanity difficulty. Normal is good enough for me.

ME1 by far. ME2 has a pretty odd difficulty curve with having some pretty heavy stuff thrown at you very early, but ME1 can get really ridiculous if you're just learning the combat system. I always went for Therum first, and that krogan battlemaster and complement of geth kicked my ass. A lot. ME3 remains the easiest still. MEA would probably be more difficult with its hard-hitting enemies, but the extreme mobility you get with this combat system allows you to really work the field faster than most enemies can.
Of course, the difficulty never lasts that long. Once you went down the notches in the skill tree, the difficulty curve takes a steep nosedive and you become godly.

Gonna say ME1 as well; some of the battles in that game kicked my tail. The Thorian and its zombies in particular stand out in my memory as a really brutal fight. I think I spent over an hour in that hole the first time through: my team would be dead before we even made it down the stairs. Never felt so much like I was just beating my head against a wall.

The older the games, the harder they are.
In other words, ME1.
These days games, especially console games, are geared toward being as user friendly as possible.
The toughest games I've ever played are now considered old.
I thought the Inquisition dragons were tough, until I discovered Thousand Cuts. That ruined all the fun.
Seems to be like that with every console game, though. The characters become godly superheroes. Dark souls doesn't count. It's only hard because they strip you of everything you gained when you lose. This game would be considered hard if they did that. Any game would. Imagine dying to an Architect and then getting stripped of your skill points and whatever else.
Last time I lost a fight to a truly tough boss in a video game, and kept losing, and never ever won, was in Lotro.
And that wasn't even a solo fight. That game had some really tough fights. Your team had to know what they were doing, or fuggedaboutit.

I'd probably stop playing, especially if it happened after hours and hours of playtime.

ME1 on insanity; Liara's recruitment right after Eden Prime with low level soldier. It took me like an hour or so, because I had only autosave :sob:
Squadmates: Kaiden and Tali.

I found Insanity the hardest in ME2, global cool down and the companions tending to run out and die or get stuck in random places made it difficult. Anyone else find that some companions seem smarter than others? Playing Sentinel my build didn't really click for me until I'd filled out passives a third of the way through the game, too. I found the companions better in ME1 in all honesty, Liara is a God. And I was a biotic in 1 and singularity is basically cheating Out of all the games Andromeda has been the most difficult for me. Took me a while to adjust to the combat and I'm still figuring it out on Insanity. Which is not being very kind to me. And agreed, OP, I always die a few times at the hands of that damn Krogan!

I remember Grissom Academy mission on insanity kicked my ass half a dozen times before I got the hang of it.

Aside from the Krogan boss in ME1 (you're right, he was a damn right pain on higher difficulty) MEA has been giving me more trouble than ME2 or 3. The enemy flank and rush has been a pain on Insanity. I can't just hunker down behind cover like I used to.

First time around? This one easy. Since i go through the other games on Insanity with one had tied behind my back i thought i'd give this one a go on hardcore first time i played. It wasn't pretty. Enemies in this game move around so much it's easy to lose track of some and get flanked thanks to the big playfield.
ME1 wins on bossfights though. That Geth tank on Therum was a complete nightmare my first time, Thorian gave me a heap of trouble as well but overall i remember it being the easiest. May be because i started as a Vanguard.
Also it's hard to gauge ME3 since it's basically the same combat system as ME2 but better and i always import, so i already had a full build and i was a ME vet. Enemy AI is better, more agressive than in 1 and 2, and the combat is more complex so if it was my first time ever i played a ME game it might have been my pick.

Definitely ME2 for me. My first Insanity run had me raging like never before, especially fond are my memories during the Horizon mission Andromeda so far has been okay, but then I'm playing NG+ and I don't really know how hard Insanity is with a new character. I don't know if I ever will. Insanity is too tedious for my tastes in MEA and the combos are weak.

It took me a while to get the hang of Andromeda, but ffs ME1 pissed me off so much. I play on easy and console in Spectre weapons and armour because I don't find it fun normally. I can easily do ME2/ME3 on insanity but damn, the Collector Ship mission is hard

ME1, that combat system was atrocious. Never forget my elite soldier who held his Sniper Rifle like a drunkard. Extremely immersion breaking.

I did my first PT of ME:A in hardcore, so I won't compare it to the others until I try insanity, but from the trilogy I think ME1 is the least easy one. It can be hard even at times early on before you get proper gear and level up your powers, and with no need of bullet spongey enemies like ME2.

I had more trouble with 3 than any other the others. I made a lot of mistakes in 1, and died a lot during very specific encounters, such as the Lunar base rogue VI side quest, but on the whole it wasn't too bad - then again I always seem to do better with more old school titles.
ME:3, on the other hand kicked my ass a lot during the first playthrough. Those three Banshees at the conclusion of the Ardat-Yakshi Monastery, and the final battle to secure the missile launcher during Priority Earth spring to mind. I found the Afterlife battle at the end of Omega DLC to be absolutely brutally impossible, and horribly stressful and frustrating to begin with, before I learned how to do it through repeated attempts.
I think that I'm naturally geared toward games with slower, more strategic combat. Anything more 'action-orientated' that involves racing around a lot, constantly moving and fast reactions I tend to struggle with a bit more - at least until I practice and get used to it. That's why I had no problems with Dragon Age Origin, but really struggled with Dragon Age 2 - at least to begin with (I find it easy now).

Well given you couldn't play Insanity first time on ME1 until having completed the game on Veteran, it wasn't too hard first time.
However if starting a fresh level 1 Shepard on Insanity in ME1, that is by far the hardest initally (and becomes ny far the easiest once level 60 with maxed out powers and weapons).
Krogan Battlemaster on Therum... *shudder* Not to mention husk ships, biotic separatists and the Hot Labs on Noveria.
Second hardest is actually MEA. I really struggled in the first few fights on Habitat 7 on Insanity having tried to play aggressively. Very quickly learnt to play super carefully, especially with the lack of manual save on priority missions and how quickly Ryder gets mowed down out of cover. I'm still relatively low level but I imagine endgame could become quite easy with the amount of mobility and powers we have access to.
ME2 is third - reasonably challenging first time but corridor shooter and predictable enemies made it easy to handle situations. Horizon end fight, Derelict Reaper and those Scions on the Collector Ship floating platforms were the most difficult.
ME3 is a cakewalk, can't remember a single difficult fight.

ME1. Because even on Insanity, I will never NOT spend all my points unlocking dialogue option skills first. Also harder to body slam your way to victory. Companions also had to be cultivated the most in ME1 what with the armor and weapons both.
In Andromeda it is really easy to cheese the system, especially due to the fact that there's so many doors and choke points. I may or may not have locked Peebee and Jaal in a closet with a Destroyer during the Voeld vault, only occasionally popping in stealth-cloaked to resurrect them and set up a turret. *shrugs*

I thought ME2 was the hardest on Insanity. ME1 was more of a chore because bullet sponge and Adrenaline on every single enemy.
ME3 was actually not bad. MEA is only hard at the beginning.

ME1, I remember the Krogan Warlord on Liara's recruitment mission, the Asari Commandos when you fought Benezia freezing you as soon as the fight started, the tank/cannon on Therum. Rachni cut you down pretty quickly on Noveria. Krogan with their immunity.
Aside from Horizon in ME2 I can't think of any missions or fights I had to repeat a bunch of times in ME2, ME3, or ME:A. But there were some in ME1 that I thought I was never going to finish.

ME1 was the first shooter I ever played and I went in with a vanguard build haha my ME experience almost ended right there and then.
Even after actually learning shooter mechanics I still think ME1 is the most challenging, however, they're all pretty doable on normal, even for someone with questionable tracking aim like me.
