This is going to be long, so if you don't want to read it at least post some dank ass TL;DR memes. From what I can tell, you don't have to look any further than what they've done to The Mattock to realize that, for whatever reason, they don't have the intention of making most of these weapons viable. They fix(the very noticeable) rate of fire glitch on semi autos, and then bump down The Mattock's damage to offset the much needed buff given to it? In the meantime, two of it's uncommon brethren(The Incisor, and Raptor), remain untouched, and absolutely shred enemies in comparison. They've done nothing about the lack of reload canceling(you can say what you want about it's exclusion, but it is a necessity to make single shot weapons with relatively long reload times viable, or even reasonable primary damage dealers.) Shotguns are by far doing the worse as a weapon class, not a single one received a damage buff. Here's my point. Among the various schools of thought for game balance, there is one that I've noticed in ME:A's multiplayer. It can be primarily found in older PVP shooters, and that is: Rewarding more mechanically skilled players with higher damage potential. Allow me to give you an example, in Halo CE you could definitely snag a few kills a match by just using the assault rifle, but any player that was skilled with the pistol would melt you, and there wouldn't be much that you could do about it, except try to beat them at their own game. As far as gun balance in ME:A is concerned, shotguns are the weakest, but they are the easiest to land shots with, followed by assault rifles, then pistols, and finally snipers. Are there exceptions? Yes, The Thokin is pretty good actually, but you need to have the skill to lead shots at range, for example. Biotic Boom kits, which require very little mechanical, and fine motor skills, definitely aren't as effective as they once were. They seem to want sniping, which is the playstyle that requires the most gunskill, to generally be the most effective way to play the game. Unless, you're lucky and have an easy to use weapon that is an exception to my hypothesis. I simply don't have any faith that they actually intend to stray too far off of the "balance" that is in the game currently. They launched it like this, believe that they've tested it enough that a beta wasn't necessary, and this recent patch doesn't do too much to address the issues, or stray too far from what what they've already established. Once a gun became a little "too" effectve(The Mattock), AKA, not shit, they nerf it in the same patch that was suppose to buff it. LOL! I can only conclude that this is what they want. And before anyone decides to strawman, and say that I hate how powerful snipers are in comparison because I can't use one, check my clips: xboxdvr.com/game/Astronautic%20II/videosThat's not the case.

A little early for all this doom and gloom? ME3MP had chances a full year before it ended up where it is today.
Lets give them a little time to set up shop - bi-weekly updates seems to be what they are going for.

They want our money's, if weapons are decent then less money for them from people buying packs with money.
But it fails because people like me want to enjoy progression, but at the same time progression is very slow and weapon ranks per rank aren't very rewarding if at all noticeable.
So my theory is after they get a few months or more revenue from people buying packs they will probably make better buffs and so forth.
They are running a business and they aren't in a hurry unless they take a hit in status quo of cash income, they know impatience leads people to spend more cash.
That's my theory on why every thing is the way it is atm in the game and including the dirt slow progression.

Maybe, but imo, his observations seems to be right - and I'm betting we won't see meaningful buffs to weapons or powers/combos.

The current patterns have suggested that doom and gloom is pretty warranted. The game is at a beta state at best. ME3 was in a way better state. The balance changes made sense most of the time. Here the balance is pretty sketchy. The netcode is horrible, vorcha potato bad. Thus far people are not pouring the kind of money they did into this as they did with ME3. You'll always have rich kids who spend enough to get ahead, but in this case, even that is rarer this time around.
People don't like getting burn and EA is seeing that. I'll say it again because it bears restating, Today most of a game's money is made in the 1st month. After that, your player base moves on. The model is shifting from long term engagement to smash and grab. Doesn't matter the quality of the game anymore, just how much you can get out of the customer base. EA wised up when Steam started issuing refunds for games this unfinished. There is a reason they use origin. Ubisoft is the same with their crap. This game would have seen a big surge in refunds on pc if EA used steam. EA saw the writing and decided let's get the most we can before shit hit's the fan than make out before the suckers even see we're gone.
We are not going to good improvement with this game. It's just a fact. It's also an EA tradition to kill a franchise at some point, even it is profitable.

Despite how this is going to start off this is going to end up somewhat positive.
I don't believe a fucking word they say. Discobabbaloo or whoever can piss off with his lies. "most extensive testing ever" I already knew, but the next time and the next game they start their BS lies on I am going to go in on them quotes and stuff. Not only do they not need betas or tests, but they also don't even balance the game....they just put it out. So now that the game is out and we are doing their job for them....they might get to work (the people whose job balancing is). They said the first patch was for stability. It's not perfect and I still have lag issues, but the game is more stable. They focused on stability and the stability got better. They say this next patch is for damage of powers and weapons. I will give them the week or so required and see if they can yet again deliver. As bad as DA: I was...post release they did support it and what they did with Heartbreaker deserves respect....its a lot better than ME does with "platinum" as well. I hope to see some of the creativity in ME: A. Make no mistake though...I know who we are dealing with.

I read but I don't know what to add. One of class which I enjoy is the vanilla soldier, but lacking a good assault rifle and/or shotgun that kit isn't optimal for gold difficulty. I'd like very much that gun damage increase all across the board making multiplayer having more options: biossplosions, techsplosion and dakka dakkaAs it stands, with pea shooters you can't really

But for any measurement of best either only one weapon can be "the best" or you get into "they are all the same":
Or: we will always have things we can whine and complain about.
Meanwhile, fans of games that have you die thousands of times (I am looking at *you* Dark Souls) are going to whine and complain if the game is not punishing enough for their tastes.
In other words, no matter how the mass effect developers build out the game they will always have someone hating it. When you combine this with some of the really tough technical and management issues and the occasional unmotivated employee... well...
Did I mention that we will always have things we can whine and complain about? And some of them will even be things I would agree with, if you can believe that...
...
... er ... anyways ...
With weapons, probably there should be a different weapon which works with each different build and playstyle. Or, since that might be overreaching, I imagine they need to smudge things out so that we have reasons for different ideas of "best"?

I look at it this way, I look at the changes in me3, SP received the biggest changes first with MP getting some love, then MP received a pile of improvements and yea in the end it still had issues but their license on the software was running out so patches and support stopped, I am a glass half full old guy, I believe things will be addressed on due course.

My perspective is they don't want the game to suck and they have enough input currently to know that the weapon balance does indeed suck ass. They need to just do some top down balancing, ultrarare weapons should be adjust radically to be better than the other weapons either through straight damage or inherent characteristics like piercing, stunning, etc. Rare and below weapons can be adjusted more gradually to get brought up to speed. The reason is outside of four ultrarares why would you want to buy premium packs to get these weapons? I'd love to see some damage to warrant the ultrarare classification; I'd also like to see special characteristics for these weapons like plus damage versus particular defenses or enemy types, AOE, piercing, etc. Make the weapons cater to different play styles. Adjust combo damage a lot like it was in ME3MP dependent on power evo level, difficulty, and defense type.
