I remember in ME2/3 I could get my cooldowns low enough that I can basically play a mage (whether it be tech/biotic or a combo of the two) and never fire my gun. Practically your powers are ready again after firing one off (or almost ready like 1 second more).
Is this possible in ME:A? I have noticed in every video even with the seperate cooldown system, the player eventually has to resort to his/her gun.
Any insight on this?

Having run out of ammo and getting harassed by a Krogan taught me to fight without firing a gun. Just melee during power cooldowns and you are fine.

I don't remember this really being in thing in ME2 -- with all the layers of protection on enemies, I had to use guns. But you do have an excellent Big Trouble in Little China profile pic, so who am I to disagree.
Yes, you can create a spammy build. One way to do it is to use the Fusion Mod of Adrenaline, which resets your cooldowns after every kill. Great against grunts, less great against boss type enemies.
WIthout it, yes, you can still stack cooldown reductions. Not quite as spammy as ME3, but you won't wait for long.

Two examples of builds where you'll hardly need ammo:
Annihilation, Lance (shield consume), Energy drain to restore shields. Fusion mod which reduces cool down, or the biotic one for bonus damage.
Charge, Nova, Shotgun (dhan), melee.
I sure there are many others.

There's also the Fusion Mod of Rapid Deployment, which reduces cooldowns by 50% but your weapon will do 30% less damage... which shouldn't matter if you don't want to fire one. Personally I think the powers/power combos are weak in comparison to ME2 and 3, but maybe it's possible to play a pure power spammer without ever firing a gun.
