I've tried this dozens of times now, and it happens every time. So I'm calling it a bug.
If I host a game, people will show up in the lobby quickly. We start the game and I will get to the loading screen. The bar on the bottom fills to 100% and then the game sits there, forever. Eventually, I have no choice but to kill the game, usually needing to restart the computer to be able to restart MEA.
However, if I open a lobby and quickly get into the game alone, people will join and the match will proceed properly.
This is making gold apex missions rather dicey. I'm not doing great staying alive waiting for people to join.

Apex missions are screwed totally at times. Every time i try and do certain ones the game freezes totally and as you say you have to resart.

Weird thought - left field here - and probably stupid. Have someone create a lobby, you join, that person leave? Just wondering if that would make a difference. Perhaps not but worth looking into. It is, after all, code. Worth a try. My suspicion is being able to do Apex missions will matter at some point, and I either need to be able to host, or need a way to make sure I can get credit. I'm not sure what happens if you select an Apex and hit Join instead of Create. Do you get matched with another instance of that mission and get credit and MP for it? I get decent performance off host, so I'm not tied to it. But I also don't want to miss out on something important.

Don't finish round 1. Hold an enemy for a few minutes until someone joins. When I want to level up in silver against kett I host and start alone and others will join... for some reason if I host a lobby no one seems to enter...

Yes you get credit and MP for completing an Apex mission that you didn't host, but only if you search for it from the Strike Teams menu. I've joined games where I wasn't awarded completion credit despite not having done the mission because I chose quick match which landed me in an Apex mission lobby. Essentially I enter the Strike Teams menu > choose the Apex mission, for example Acquire Enemy Research > [Spacebar] to play in Multiplayer > Join Match. You'll usually get a popup after the match is done asking you if you want to return to the Strike Team menu if the match succeed. You can press [Spacebar] for yes or [ESC] for no. Replace [Spacebar] and [ESC] with console buttons and/or remapped buttons.
