I've been playing around with the human infiltrator and would appreciate some information about how the cloak works. I've read all this stuff about how great it is for reviving dead allies, and getting devices, but I'm finding I keep getting caught out by the 'dog' type enemies, who seem to just sniff me down and attack despite the cloak (should have had a shower before I started playing, but that's another story!).
So how exactly does the concealment aspect of the cloak work? Does it not work on all enemies?

I don't think I've ever had enemies attacking me while I'm cloaked, but it's probably a bug or something if they do.
They might be able to track you if you go invisible as they are attacking, I'm not sure if that's intended or not.

It's not a tactical cloak, it's a tactical damage boost, especially on HI. After 1.05 patch it works like in ME3.

If you cloak in clear view, enemies will still fire where you vanished. (Common sense) ME3 had some acoustic perception added to enemies, they hear gunfire, running and maybe power use. So the closer you were (e.g. running) the more likely they were to guess and attack where you are.
For the dogs I'd recommend trying to spare a dog until a wave ends in bronze and then see how it behaves. AI was always given a rough idea where the player is in frequent "cycles".

So how exactly does the concealment aspect of the cloak work? Does it not work on all enemies? Consider this trivia, unless it happens to coincide with how they did it in ME:A. In ME 3 MP, enemy targeting was handled on a three second cycle. When you would cloak, the enemy would continue to target the place where you were standing. If you didn't move after cloaking, it wouldn't do much, until the enemy recalculated its target at the end of the three second cycle (often enough to get you killed, if you didn't understand how it worked.) To maximize the concealment aspect of Tactical Cloak (which was, of course, considered blasphemous) you would cloak and then immediately move from your original location (laterally to incoming fire is best.) The enemies would land a bit of fire on you just after cloak, but would lose you quite quickly. Three second duration was generally enough to work, so a lot of us eventually stopped bothering with the longer duration option for TC, choosing to upgrade it with extra damage, instead. I have no idea how much, if any of that, remains true of how it works for ME:A, but it took a fair while for people to test the details out in ME 3, so the full story of how Tactical Cloak works may emerge over further weeks of experimentation and testing. It's not a tactical cloak, it's a tactical damage boost, especially on HI. After 1.05 patch it works like in ME3. If so, then I would like to pat myself on the back for offering an expert opinion on a game that I've never played. I AM ONE WITH THE INTERNETZ

Melee enemies will basically always know where you are but ranged enemies will shoot to where they last saw you. Normally you're safe if there aren't any dogs near you.
