<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>> Was hunting for ME:A news and clicked on a Kotaku hit. Just below the "BioWare Wants Mass Effect Andromeda To Recapture The First Game's Wonder" is this link: Link: steamed.kotaku.com/the-social-justice-controversy-surrounding-baldurs-gate-1769176581
The angry reviews centred on a buggy expansion and same-old same-old problems and the deliberate insertion of modern SJ issues in a 17 year old game that, at the time, had nothing of today's "social problems" in it. The anger I can understand (especially the purists pov). I have BG and installing an expansion is (what I consider) a continuation of the 17 year old universe. Hit with a "I'm gay" is totally unexpected and unwarranted (imo). This in your face admission is not supported by a trans that posted an interesting paragraph.
Anyway, if you want to delve into the anger and rants click on the link above.

Some of the SJWs agendas are admirable and worthy of support, the problem is that the majority of SJW's are simply very stupid self righteous dimwits.
They lack the intelligence and maturity to implement their agenda into media in a subtle, elegant way so it is viewed as a positive thing. Instead they clumsily shove it down peoples throats in a very passive-aggressive annoying way, ultimately pissing people off and harming their cause.
Its just really sad.

This is totally true and actually true for a lot of issues/causes in this world. People would rather get back patted by doing/saying something outlandish or foolish than to realize that in most issues in this world there are two small bubbles of people on either end of an extreme and a huge bubble of people who can be positively influenced for your cause in the middle if you choose to try and legitimately get their support instead of just playing to the small bubble you belong to.

I was gonna post something snarky in an attempt to rile up some of the more SJW-inclined members of the forums here, but honestly this is about as diplomatic a statement as you can possibly make while still being accurate about the issue here. Can't bring myself to start making people angry. bravo tbh

For some reason it has become extremely popular to think in extremes in every aspect of life, resort to extreme measures right away and expect extremes. Be it politics, social interaction, fighting for minorities, the gaming culture etc.
On the list of things people have to relearn nowadays prudence, restraint, moderation and the discipline to keep your ego in check are right at the top.

That was one proper clusterfuck. People complained about technical issues, old characters being changed and the way all that SJW stuff was presented and shoved down people's throats; all those legitimate complaints got handwaved and everyone got called bigot. What I absolutely don't understand is why that Minsc's line got deleted, that was exactly what he would said.
Most hilarious about this was, and I had to laugh really hard, when Amber Scott issued statement, that when she's writing, she's "trying to be as diverse as possible", when in reality she raped nearly 20 years old characters, that were already diverse, to suit her SJW/PC agenda, which made the game LESS diverse in the end.
I don't know. On one hand I don't mind any of those issues (when done properly), as long as the game is any good. But on the other hand, should we support developers that lie through their teeth to our faces, ship buggy games, insert their skewed SJ/PC agenda in a way that is offensive to regular people and when they got called on any of it, they act all hurt, insulted and upset and call people with legitimate complaints entitled bigots?

A non-story started by folks who, in my opinion at least, need to get a grip.
The expansion was ok, it highlighted the problems with 2nd edition rule-sets and utilizing and older engine for isometric role-playing, plus some hit and miss writing that is really just bad writing over politics. If you liked Baldur's Gate and want to see more with some favorite characters, id say go for it honestly.

From what I've heard it horribly violates the lore with the final boss. In the Forgotten Realms, it is impossible to kill a demon/devil with anything less than a +3 weapon, especially in the demon/devils home plane. The Bhaalspawn should've been ripped into tiny little pieces. It also takes a dump on Icewind Dale, the final boss which a group of battle hardened veterans struggled to kill in Faerun was able to to be killed by level 13 in its own home plane. Utter bullshit.
Also Jaheira was NEVER a nag.

Politics and bs aside, I couldn't really give two squirts about it. If I was gonna have an issue with it, it would be on the grounds of changing something that has already been established. I haven't gotten around to playing BG but people keep telling me to play the original because the enhanced edition is full of cheesy dialogue and "every character is now either gay or bisexual". (Which I don't have a problem with being gay myself) but I absolutely detest when something is changed to appeal to a new paradigm, or whatever. If you wanna write "diverse characters" fine, do so on your own original work.

Controversy was a lot less political in nature than reported. Was more a case of bad writing and fanfiction tier character snowflaking.
The game apparently has a lot of that, in ways that contradict established lore or characters.
Mediocre expansion but the controversy wasn't worth getting angry over, except as a means to highlight how the writing team did not respect the source material.

Irenicus being in the game is a mistake, although honestly Irenicus was never that strong of a character to begin with in my book. His presence there was fan service, not any tangible development anyway.

Safina and Jaheira are the standouts, but even Minsc had (had, since they removed it) some stupid shit associated with him. I mean, Minsc literally referencing Gamergate? Yeah, totally not pushing an agenda here.
