First off, I'm aware of the synergy between draining field and shield powered, but I feel (for the moment at least) that constantly using up my shield to fire off a lance is too high risk for me. I may give it a go later, though.
I'm interested in views on draining field vs vortex taken on their own. Obviously draining field is pretty powerful and my team mates would love it, if they knew I had it, and ever stayed within range of the field (not a feature of most pug groups I play with).
On the other hand, vortex makes you virtually dog-proof which is just soooo lovely.
So I'm inclined to think that for PUG groups vortex is better.
What do you think?

I thought a lot about this too...
and I decided to go draining field.. because I concluded I prefer 50% shield recharge per melee kill.
It does help teammates a lot even the weakest team.. especially if you are farming and doing certain objective in PuG.
I am not worried too much about dogs as Asari adept, but Vortex felt pretty attractive against dealing with chosen, raider and other mooks.. But to be honest, these mooks can be killed fairly easily and every time I kill them I don`t wanna miss out on that 30% shield recharge.
P.S. I am more curious about whether people went 20% damage debuff or 30% explosion damage/radius bonus on Asari adept. Right now I am doing 20% damage debuff.. but I am not sure what this effect exactly does. Debuff enemy defense? or increase 20% damage by all sources?

Vortex. Crowd control is damn near invaluable in this game. You can still get shields with the melee evolution and right now the game is tilted toward melee combat especially with a character that is CQC like her.

Debuff over combo damage currently and it's not close. Possibly combo damage could become viable after the next balance change.

Vortex field looks like it could be really fun, I might try it out.
I found the melee build with draining field and barrir drain to be very effective but not very fun.

Ii believe that one was 20% damage from all source vs 25% movement speed. I decided to go 20% all damage because Asari adept has best dashing speed and distance.. .but I often mess it up.. lol

With my AA I definitely prefer Draining Field with both evo's of the debuff, which in theory should mean enemies take 40% more damage from all sources including BE's, which right there is better than buffing BE's damage by 30%. You miss out on the rds though. I go this route instead of Vortex because it helps the party a lot more, as well it keeps you healthy, and a good party knows to use the Annihilation Field user as prime place to BE which in turn helps them out as well as exploding everything.
Vortex is a lot of fun though, and most will probably suggest it. Though it doesn't really help you vs armored opponents but damn the dogs, the dogs can float off to space hell for all I am concerned. There is no stripping armored opponents to make em float.
I actually prefer Vortex on my Krogan Gladiator though.

I don't run vortex on my adept but would do it for the slow ass krogan...why bioware make krogan so shitty this go around. Human vanguard are way better, adept is better than gladiator and the merchant is just blah

Draining Field. Vortex works only on unshielded - unarmored enemies. At that point, I'd rather just kill them with lance/melee or lance/equalizer/talon and not have to worry about them at all.
Being safe works, but killing things fast works even better.

I really wish I could see the skill tree choices people made in the lobby with how popular Vortex seems to be.

I ultimately settled on Vortex, because both are awesome choices, but Vortex adds to my giggle/entertainment factor.

draining field works really well for builds that detonate with shield-powered lance, providing a reliable shield restore while improving your TTK against low tier enemies. you can run up to a mook, lance detonate -> shotgun -> melee in quick succession to kill, and you're already at full shield again from draining field and either barrier drain or biotic link.

As long as the enemy dies in your field you and all your friends in your field get 30% shields restored. Picking Vortex tells me you don't know what you are doing. I'm not trying to be mean, I've had wrong ideas about things, but you are essentially ruining a character. Choosing Vortex tells me you are not using a shield fueled lance build which also tells me you are carrying light weapons. Your potential DPS and team support are neutered by this one choice. You turn a guaranteed 25,000 point character into a circus trick. It's honestly one of the worst choices in the game from an optimization standpoint. Now if you chooses it because the float effect amuses you as run run around, then fill your heart with glee. Even on gold as long as you stay within a thousand points of second place. Just don't expect high level players to want you in their gold lobbies.

^Video games are srs bzns.
P.S. To add to the topic I've specced both. And I do like both. One is really good for CC (Vortex), the other one is good if you're doing the Lance build. I honestly find them both fun and I've top scored on Gold with either of them.

Vortex field looks cool but didn't really cut it in SP. MP are more confined though, but then again - it just helps against basic mooks. If the dogs give you trouble - then take it for care-free focus on your favourite targets.
