So is this HD KOTOR: Aperion really happening?

First and foremost - the only reason why Disney&EA had not smashed them down yet is because no one takes them seriously at this point. One can't make a game with 'Star wars' and distribute it, free or not. GameDev had explained it in one of their posts. That's how life goes.

But even if they somewhow avoid the copyright hammer of doom, I'm not exited about their project at all. It looks too little like KOTOR I love, and those 'new characters, new missions and new companions(!) ? No, thanks. Leave my characters alone,please.

Their levels remind me of UE4 demo sets, not of SW or KOTOR. And it's not about being high-res, really. Jedi Knight is a barely-3d low-poly ~20 years old game, SWTOR is a cartoonish MMO on HeroEngine, either of two has recognizable SW-style looks. Both KOTOR and TOR  have Endar Spire and Taris, by the way. And TOR Taris is much more old BW Taris than those overpolished and glossy renders. Not to mention that KOTOR with no DnDesque combat system would be something totally not KOTOR.

I'd prefer a new KotOR game, instead of re-making 1. Let 1 be what it is/was. And create a 3rd game.

I do agree with you. For example, TOR Taris is respectful of Kotor 1 Taris while giving new content. A good Remade/Remaster needs that type of Respect. And becoming too much out of left field is a bad thing for Kotor.
