Hey guys,
Elections day are coming where I live, and I keep hearing the same sentence "The original is always better than the copy". Really, what applies to politics also applies in videogames. More to the point, squadmates. While I find them good if taken independently, I guess that what, consciously or not, disapoints most people is that they feel like tweaked copies of the original crew:
2 humans as starting companions : the soldier-like girl and the nice sploppy guy
One asari archeologist (again), but with a different character
One turian gunner, good at heart but rebellious toward autority (again), but it's a girl
One krogan (again) because we need one liners like "I guess shooting at it won't help?" or "until we kill them all... right Ryder?"
One nice character codexing you the history of his people who are good guys but have taken a beating by the Geths, oups sorry, Keths... excepted this time it is a new specie
Really, keeping the historic species in the new game is good, but that the squad is more or less the same is the issue I have with the new guys, who once more are if you forget about the original trilogy are fine in my opinion. For MEA, as it is a civilian endeavour, I was expecting more of a rashtag dysfunctional crew (granted peebee plays her part in this optic)
So, in the future, DLC or sequel, what new companions would you like to see??? I have a few in mind
- Replace the krogan with (or add) some primitive new specie. For example, a DLC focusing on exploring a new planet, finding strong agressive primitives living there, playing the colonization / first contact thematic with them. Plenty of ways to design them fun, for example Grut in the "guardians of the galaxy" wookie equivalent
- Blasto !!!!! I mean a hanar. Sure it looks weird at first thought, but I'd love an arrogant abnoxious character, speaking like hanars do, for the ultimate troll experience. Of course with 4 guns in its tentacles. Could come as the result of quarian ark DLC
Your turn guys, do you have any idea of a fun, original character??

I like the new crew. There are redoubtable similarities between them and the original crew of the Normandy, but I like them quite a bit anyway. I think they are all pretty interesting and I hope they stick around.
With that said, there are many squadmates we could get in the next game. Quarian, Drell, Salarian (I'd like a new little Salarian buddy)..
Although honestly, I want them to push forward the Andromeda world with new species and new allies that can join the crew. The Angara and Kett can't be the only species in the entire Andromeda galaxy. Andromeda is a bigger galaxy than the Milky Way so we should expect to see a cacophany of new races in future games. As much as I love the races of the Milky Way, I want to see new races in the new titles for this new galaxy.
Part of what made new companions great in the original series (besides good writing for them) was that they were all NEW and fresh species that we were getting to learn about intimately for the first time.
In ME1, it was our first encounters with all the species. Wrex was our first krogan, Garrus was our first Turian, Tali was our first Quarian.
In ME2, Thane was the first Drell we'd ever met, Mordin was our first Salarian companion, Grunt was a different take on a krogan, Samara was a very different type of Asari from what we were familiar with, Legion was the first Geth companion and opened up that species in incredible new and complex ways... We already loved Tali and Garrus
In ME3, Javik was the first Prothean we ever encountered and the rest of the crew (besides James) were returning crew members we already loved.
In MEA, we've got a fresh crew to get to know for the first time but they are all races we've met before except for Jaal.
We need more new races for some new characters and squadmates in my opinion.

Yep it seems batarians are often cited in post here and there since the original trilogy. Some bounty hunter who decided to leave the milky way after double crossing the shadowbroker could have been a fun companion for example. |

Well, depending on what they're doing with the Quarian Ark, I'm hoping that we get a squadmate from there who's seen at least some action in the Reaper War. I'd like to see someone express relief at the situation with the kett and have Jaal call them out on it by implying that the angara were weak, only for the person to explain, "They have supply lines, their ships need fuel, and their numbers are finite. Compared to what we left behind, that's a vacation."
Or something to that effect.

I want the Quarian ark to show up so that we can have an elcor hanging around. Sure, for animation reasons he or she probably couldn't actually be a squadmate, but maybe they could be a new pilot or driver or engineer. Mostly I just want to hear an elcor doing their version of the "No, no, no!" that PeeBee shouts if you fall into a canyon.

I think the new crew is really well done and i love the personal quests. But i cannot stand Cora at all.... the wanna be Asari drives me nuts.
I'd replace her in a heartbeat... seriously wanted to kill her off.
Zaeed Massani was the merc i always wanted for the crew. Then again i wanted to see more evil and crazy options. Instead we kinda got a smart a** good guy.
Love Ryder but i want my mercs and my renegade hero.π
God wasn't it cool to find his son on EOS with that attitude.
*fingers crossed* MEA 2 companion...π

Hm... don't get me wrong but I kind of don't want "original"  I kind of want another Tali (as in: A Quarian female, but this time it would be nice if she was a biotic (an ADEPT, so not another Vanguard...and no shotgun, please!!!) after all they are pretty rare and if she didn't idolize the flottila (which would explain why she is in Andromeda!)) Then I'd like a totally serious Asari (even more than Liara), more like a blend of Aria T'Loak and Matriarch Aethyta (Liara's "father") with a little Samara mixed in (so a badass biotic - a true Huntress! - with a vision for the future where technological discoveries (Prothean Beacon on Thessia, Mass Relays etc.) aren't squandered but re-created and improved upon (even more so: Where leaving the Reaper-Tech-Trap isn't just a great idea but is actually achieved!) and some ruthlessness when needed (without being a self-serving and selfish cunt like Aria - Oh, I respect her and believe she is a total badass, but I don't really like her!)...not that she shouldn't crack jokes and have some humor (but I'd like her to be focused and "on the job"...a counterbalance to Liam!) Hell, I would not be unhappy if you could just pick up the other Pathfinders as crewmates (serious Asari? Check! not to mention a female Salarian who probably couldn't care less about politics and breeding contracts etc....ok, maybe not Avitus (damned man, you are dragging everybody else down )) greetings LAX |

I wouldn't mind a (well written) mission where you had to enlist a couple of the non-combatant crew members like Suvi or Gil, Lexi etc. It could be a research, exploration or an unusual rescue mission, perhaps where you had to solo the combat because the others aren't trained or something along those lines. Except there's no recorded voice acting to cover it.
