To be fair, all the hub planets in Andromeda's Helius Cluster are undergoing terraforming. But throughout the game we see a snow, desert, tropical, jungle, mountainous, and moon terrains. And on Peebee's mission there's volcanic terrain. The only other 2 types of terrain i can think of are woodland and coastal/sea-side terrains. Maybe we'll see planets that include those in upcoming DLC. Hanar are an aquatic species so they'd fit well with a coastal/ocean planet. Hanar were reported to be on the Quarian Ark. I really don't see what the big deal is. What other climates would you want to see? I want to see more environmental variety and my taxpayer dollars put to BETTER use than this. Brand new galaxy, brand new characters, brand new everything......yet they went with the same old shit.

I believe the barren worlds were designed more to accommodate the Nomad gameplay, so that the speed of the Nomad would not outpace the engine's ability to render highly dense environments. This is also why mounts are so slow in DAI. Any faster and you'd have problems rendering those lush environments in front of you. But yeah, having only one explorable world that wasn't a wasteland in the entire game was a real disappointment for me as well. I would have preferred each world having a smaller barren section you could drive around in, then force you to disembark and explore the rest of the region on foot. And those areas they could pack with all kinds of dense vegetation/features and interesting things like we have DAI, etc.. Yes, DAI environments (and glitches spoiled me!

I really don't see what the big deal is. What other climates would you want to see? You are forgetting grasslands. All of those planets represent ecological disasters. Which is synonymous with barren. What I regret is that they used the electric storms and gravity inverses on Habitat 7. It made for a memorable opening world, but left Elaaaden without its own theme. There is also a very nice moon where Vetra's quest is taking place, but it is mostly a white-gray take on Voeld. I was thinking about an unproductive steppe grassland with poisonous grass, and/or uncontrolled grass-fires but it will be very close to Havarl in its enviro-disaster. Island archipelago world with flooding events and rogue waves and/or a world with active seismicity and accelerated erosion with mudslides/rockfalls or a permafrost world with exploding pingos; volcanism issuing forth clouds of poisonous fumes and ashes would have all required dynamic systems... Kadara sort of tried to look like that... and its geysers are not that spectacular. I dunno. I would have loved more terrifying worlds, like habitat 7... but we gotta play there, and it gotta change for the better based on our efforts...

I'd love to see in MEA 2 some completely unique and crazy planets to settle or explore.
A ocean world where we could use the sea diver mech suit to explore the bottom. Possibly a unique aquatic life form that has never met another sentient lifeform.
A sky world where alien mushrooms as tall as sky scrappers and a neon blue liquid cover the ground making it impossible to land. We could possibly fly around and study the planet.
Maybe we find out that the Blue liquid is a type of acid that the mushrooms use to digest living matter.
A world with a very low gravity and huge stingray style creatures the size of a small island. Maybe we land on one in hibernation and after exploring we find the ground is alive and have to rush to leave.
Eh we can dream but yeah i do find the planets in MEA a tad too earth like.

They started you out with Habitat 7. Floating mountains, lightning storms, etc. When I stood up after crashing to the planet and looked out it was awesome. I felt like I was in another galaxy 600 years from the Milky Way. However, after that, aside from Havarl, it was just downhill, plain sand and ice for the most part. It was just a letdown.
They're other ways you can convey a planet hit with disaster other than plain sand and ice.

I'm the opposite, I love the desert/ice/arid planets, they suit the story and I love blasting around them in the Nomad. Havarl on the other hand makes my eyes bleed and I spend as little time there as I can get away with.
All that said now that the story as moved on and the terra forming is kicking in I would expect any Ryder sequel to have a more diverse ecosystem. My vote is for another Virmire.

I liked the planets and thought that there was plenty of variety. They even managed to make Eos and Elaaden look different.
The barren nature of some of the planets is logical given the story. I also don't think Kadara is getting enough recognition. The rock formations looked like coral, there were lethal sulphur springs and the plant life was completely alien.
As for being Earth-like... well yeah, Earth has a whole heap of different environments, the more barren of which are effectively repeated on the less habitable places in our solar system. I'm kinda glad they didn't go overboard with the Discworld-style fantastical elements.
For me, the one disappointment environmentally was the fauna. Virtually everything you meet is a lizard, a crustacean or a big gorilla thing. And it's all trying to kill you.

This is the first thing you saw of Andromeda. Floating mountains, other world plant life. Even though it was rocky canyons, it looked like another world. Even if it was too hard to put this across entire planets, they could have had pockets of this kind of stuff to explore on foot out of the Nomad. They could have gone even further and the vaults be in these pockets, protecting them and giving a glimpse of what the world once looked like. They even had the little cave on Habitat 7. It would have at the very least made the player look forward to finding these areas on each planet instead of just driving around through endless sand and ice.

I just expected more from the planet design but sadly it wasn't delivered. For anyone who wants to see something very interesting. Google this 'seven kindgoms decennium' and check the images. It is the cover of a heavy metal album I came across and they draw inspiration from fantasy and scifi . When I saw the cover artwork I immediately thought that this is how I wanted Andromeda to look like.Alien and most of all...Alive. I can't share the picture now because I am on my phone . Apart from Havarl and Habitat 7, it all looked so dull.

There did seem to be an excessive amount of desert in ME:A. It's possible that I'm the only person that wishes there was water exporation. Whether it required a mech-like suit (like the Leviathan in ME3) or just free diving. When I played Leviathan, I felt it had so much potential, if they continued the ME series.

Mass Effect 1's Explorable zones: Sand Planets (Eos/Elaaden) Snow Planets (Veold) Planets with Grass/Hills (Kadara)
The quality of the Explorable Zones are better than the quantity of ME1's Zones.

Agreed. Even something as superficial as making the sand on Elaaden a different color would have gone a long way to helping it feel less like Eos Volume II: The Chronicle.

Yes three of the planets look like the US southwest. I get that the point is that they aren't habitable yet but they could have been more creative about it.
However, the first planet was really cool, and there is a great planet on a loyalty mission I just did!
Black sand (from previous lava eruptions) would have helped.

I think they design Elaaden with the idea of "new Tuchanka" in mind, so I'm ok with it. But I really hate EoS, it's the the most earth looking planet in the whole game and it is nightmare to drive on it.

And then you have Voeld which is also desert but white I didn't really have a problem with Voeld, got a nice Hoth vibe from it and there was a better effort to distinguish the frozen wastes from the games arid dunes. Which cannot be said for the Old Republic, Hoth and Tatooine are basically the same art assets but yellow or white.

Deserts, jungles, plains, frozen tundra...only so many different ways to work with those environments. It'd be a closer approximation to compare them to the environments in DAI.

BW's hard on for deserts is surpassed only by its obsession with cheese--did you find the weird space cheese in MEA yet? But BW's true biggest boner is for the asari, which we're reminded of at every turn: they're better than all the other races at everything, and if Peepee shat in a cup of coffee, and served it up for sale, it would be the new space craze: Peepee's Poopoo Brew.
