Right now it feels signatures are very utterly limited, in the sense that it's just basic text. but I'd love for the signature option to be able to incorporate the BBcode editor (which would allow to insert stuff like links, or centering the signature, etc).

I'd like a limit on signatures, threads can get very chaotic with all the different kinds of signatures and avatars and stuff

Actually, it appears you can do some of this. At least, I was able to add images by ensuring [img*]image url[/img*] was present (with the asterisks, of course).
I do agree it would be nice to have a BBCode editing tool right there at the signature editing box. As a temporary work-around, you can try making your signature look how you want in a thread reply box, click BBCode, and copy-paste that over to the signature editing tool in your settings.

Moderator discussion of signatures is under way. Freedom is good, but every post with giant gifs looks awful.
As a rule of thumb I'll be proposing no signature taller than your avatar, but that's a debate we need to have behind the scenes..
Request noted, thank you.

^One nice thing about bioware forums was that you could just hit the "x" to hide sigs for users. Of course they didn't allow gifs, so there was usually not much reason to do this.

I'd say anything goes in sigs except for giant images lengthwise, gif or otherwise.
Even your images DragonRacer are a bit on the tall side for a sig, in my opinion. Not outlandish but potentially significant in long threads.

Allowing picture could be great, but I agree that they shouldn't be damn tall. As a rule of thumb, I've found that the usual 500 x 150 pixel limitation works well on most forums I've been too. But my main grip here was mostly about BBCode editor, allowing to centering the signature and customize it, as much as we could in the Bioware forums.

I was thinking about 1 picture allowed max, and that picture should do 500x150 pixels max, that way people can express themselves, without making things too big, and having too many different pictures at once which would make for potential mess. The option to hide individual signatures would be nice too. BTW, if you guys need graphic designers, I'm over here.

At one line of text her sig takes up over 50% of her post so yeah. It's not overly obnoxious don't get me wrong, but it seems like a lot of page real estate especially when it'd add up in a long thread. I'm not sure what exact number to recommend. The image in my sig is scaled to 10% it's original size (it's huge). I'd say around whatever height that is would be sufficient.

Playing around with it a bit I'm thinking a max height of either 100 or 150 pixels. I'm less concerned about a restriction on width because the forums will already cut it off if it becomes too wide and goes off the right edge of the content section. Though keeping it to 500 pixels could prevent it from ever looking bad on smaller resolutions.
As far as the BBCode editor, that's something I can look at. Might require a bit of coding to get done.

I think something like 50px height should be more than enough.
Personally I like that people can express themselves a bit, but I also don't want to see anything obnoxious like moving/blinking gifs and huuuuge pictures. I don't want to turn all signatures off, but I will do it they get too distracting.
I'd love to be able to turn individual signatures off. That'd be also great because it would encourage people to keep their signatures sensible - if you make your sig too obnoxious, no one's gonna look at it twice, so you have to show some prudence.
For those who love making big, striking, dazzling sigs: please think of others. Not only can your sig be distractive to others, but it can also make people turn all sigs off so they won't see anyone else's sigs either. You're not more important than others in this board, so plese try to keeps things sufficiently low-key.

Maybe no bigger than avatar size as Sofa mentioned. Thanks. It was worse before. I followed themikefest's lead and created 350x38 banners instead. That makes the signature size far more reasonable than before.

I'd appreciate the ability to hyperlink in there. You already can! Just type [url*=yourlinkhere] your text here [/url*] Remove the asterisks and sub in your info, and it should work. If anybody wants to screw around with it but doesn't know any BBCode, here's some simple stuff you can do in the sig box: To center an image/text, use [center*] and [/center*] To adjust the size of your text, use [size*=?] and [/size*] Replace the question mark with numbers 1-7. 2 is the standard font size. To add an image, use [img* src=yourimagelinkhere] To bold, underline, or italicize text, use [b*], [u*], and [i*] respectively. To force a line break, use [br*] To change text color, use [color*=red] and [/color*] Substitute whatever color you want. To change your font, use [font*=wingdings] and [/font*] Sub in whatever font. I dunno if that'll be useful for anyone, but there you go. Ha.

I get too easily distracted by stuff moving in signatures and avatars. I don't know why....Oh, Squirrel! Edit: Okay, NVM, I see someone has mentioned that you can turn them off. Will look into that.

Thanks, How Yummy! Now if there were only a way to hide gif avatars. I don't want to block all avatars but find any movement in sigs and avatars super distracting. Will use adblock to manually block moving ones, I guess.
