- If you have a lot of loose electric cords and cables hanging around, use left over toilet paper or paper towel tubes to slide them into and store them more conveniently.
- This one is really specific and situational, but it comes up at my work a lot. If you are or have been in the military, and you go wine tasting Napa Valley, mention that you were in the military really early on after you meet the host. Maybe slip your military ID onto the counter casually. A lot of tasting rooms will offer complimentary tastings and discounts to those in the military, but it's best to put that on the radar early, because sometimes only certain tasting can be free.
Try to avoid waiting to mention it after you've already finished your tasting. It's bad form. And please, if you are tempted to go into detail about your military service or share pictures, consider whether there are a lot of other people also tasting around you. Not only do hosts rarely have that kind of time to dedicate to a guest's personal stories, it's sometimes difficult for them to know how to react. Keep in mind that while they're probably happy to offer to the preferential treatment, their job is extremely thankless. They may not enjoy being placed in a position where the only appropriate reaction is to express awe at someone's else's achievement.

Don't bother throwing pears that have fallen off your tree at magpies or squirrels in your back yard because you almost always miss and they keep coming back. (Don't ask me why I know this.) On the weight training theme, I'll toss in my two cents. - Proper form over the amount of weight. I see tons of guys just hoisting around weights that are too heavy for the exercise they are doing, their lack of proper form means they are not working out the part of the boys they are supposed to be working on. - The amount of weight or type of exercise that others are doing should have zero relevance to the routine you have come up with. You are competing with yourself, not the next guy or girl to you. - Try and work as well on your weak points as you do on the strong parts of your body. You see a ton of guys with great upper body physiques and chicken legs. +1 Some more lifting tips: * The most important exercise is the one you suck at the hardest. Master it. * Find out what works for YOU. Don't copy everything and everyone 1:1, listen to yourself. * If you are an advanced powerlifter / or if you do maximum weight lifts on a regular basis invest in a gumshield like they use in contact sports. Being able to bite your teeth really hard makes you stronger (like clenching a fist makes you stronger) and more importantly it protects your teeth. I once broke a completely healthy tooth when I did 240kg deadlifts. It crumbled like a bombed building.

Listen to other people. It is simple but a lot of people seem to have lost this ability.

A minor one: If you feel you're ready to sneeze and you don't want that (because you're at the cinema, or someone's sleeping, or whatever), tickle the roof of your mouth with the tip of your tongue. That will stop the sneezing. Apparently the roof of your mouth is good for lots of things

Unless you enjoy kneeling on the pavement (or are a Guardian journalist pursued by a bunch of goons through Waterloo Station and Jason Bourne instructs you to), you may not be keen on re-tying your shoelaces. Using a secure shoe knot means you don´t have to. The easiest one is probably the double slip knot, just loop the top part twice instead of just once and you´re good to go .

4)When shopping i pick products on the very back since these have later expiry date I do the same. On the same vein, when taking something frozen I go for stuff in the back or bottom of the refrigerator as it's the one that had the least contact with hotter air. When changing a car tire, ease the bolts while the car is not lifted. It's a lot harder when the wheel freely spins around. You can do the same when tightening the bolts with the new tire, screw the bolts manually then lower the car enough to make it stop spinning and tighten everything. If you need to travel often it might be useful to invest in dividers and small pouches to organize your things and more easily slip it all in and out of bags. I find compact camera pouches extremely useful for small bits like phone charger, USB cables, batteries and memory cards. Remember to get something that is padded, so mishandling at airport is not an issue. I always keep some paper near me in case I need to write something. Any desk I use (work and at home) always has a scalpel and a small flathead screwdriver. Scalpels are great to cut a lot of things and they work much better when opening mail without ruining the content. The screwdriver is useful for a whole host of other things, especially when you need to pry open something small (using it as a lever). Back in the days I used to also have metal clips handy for the occasional stuck CD drive, but I haven't used one of those for the past six years. If you use a lot of memory cards and thumb drives like I do, get a label maker or a permanent marker and give them useful labels. It's too time consuming checking every single one of them when you are looking for something. Print the pictures you care about the most, and print them as big as you can. Having them in your hands is a whole other matter than looking at those on a tiny phone screen. Always keep water with you: at your desk, near the sofa, on the nightstand, in your purse.

So yeah its not a bad tip!

Keep in mind that while they're probably happy to offer to the preferential treatment, their job is extremely thankless. They may not enjoy being placed in a position where the only appropriate reaction is to express awe at someone's else's achievement. Being in the military is no guarantee of achievement. We have just as many deadbeats and losers as any civilian occupation would. That said, people who think they achieved something in the military are never in short supply. Also, IMO, I dislike when Soldiers (and any other goons from the other services) pulls the military card to get discounts. It's cheap, and despite what national propaganda tells you, we aren't really worthy of preferential treatment. But then that goes into my philosophical rant on the nature of hero warship in the United States and how cheap it is, and it drags the topic off course. Still though, it is kind of a leap from sommelier to National Defense. Not necessarily vertically, but not entirely laterally either. Not awe, but it could be a reminder that some jobs... have more impact than others. And the reverse holds true of course; a Joe in the Infantry (or even a glib, washed up junior Intel Officer) isn't on the same level as a Rocket Scientist at JPL.

Always keep any and all important files you have (Social Security, Birth Certificate, Drivers License, Medical Records, etc) in triplicate at all times, and try to use the copies as much as possible. Scan material and keep it on a hard drive or flash drive, but don't keep records online unless you know its secure (I only use this for medical records). Keep the small things too, from tax records to vaccination records.
One time in the military, I had both my original files and two pairs of copies for several very important copies of information I needed destroyed by a careless Administrative drone. That set me back in pay (and existence) for nearly 3 months.

* Adding fuel to a fire can only create more fire. ... You're telling me that now?! Not sure if these have been mentioned before, but anyway. A pretty simple one: put an old newspaper at the bottom of your bin to absorb any food juices. And one that I do all the time: bounce your batteries to check if they're good or bad. If they bounce just once and then fall over flat, they're good. If they bounce around a lot more than that, they're on their way out.
