So I finished last night and wanted to see what other people thought of it.
My thoughts
Good: Female Morgan Yu is gay or bisexual, which I was stupidly pleased about. I think this was the first time I've played an AAA game with a set protagonist, that has a LI and they are LGBT. It was cool.
The combat is solid, I only got one typhon mod, so I could morph my way into closed off rooms, so I don't know what the powers are like but the Engineer & Science Skill trees are very fun and the Combat focus from the Security tree is a game changer.
The few characters there are, are interesting enough to chat to I'm particularly a fan of Mikhalla Illyushin.
The environment and tone of the game are mostly good
The middle of the game is where all the best stuff storywise is.
Bad: Why can't Morgan talk? They get the excellent Sumalee Montano to voice Morgan and there is so little dialogue from her, just January, December and past Morgan. It was so frustrating, there were many times that I wanted to explain myself to a character, particularly Mikhalla or when I knew that the person I was speaking too was an imposter but I couldn't say anything and just had to be lead by the nose by the plot.
The tone of the game at the end switches from one of tense horror to more face paced action which was frustrating due to my build.
The start of the game doesn't show it's best self or give a good idea of what the player will be in for.
The loading times are awful, I was playing on the PS4 Pro and each section took an age to load up. It really hampered my desire to explore and completely wrecked the tension of the ending, as my mad dash through the station was constantly interrupted by a long loading screen.
The post credit ending is bullshite.
What do you guys think of Prey?

I'm enjoying it so far. But I haven't gotten very far into it, and I explored the hell out of whats available to me thus far. So not a whole lot of reason to go back into those areas.
Can't wait to get that phantasm power you mentioned. Lots of cracks into rooms, I can't get into. Very frustrating.
I'm looking forward to seeing that new tree.
I don't like it when game devs force your sexuality on you. I much prefer it when they give you the choice on the matter. This can be done with a single dialog choice, or a starting back story. But idk what they do for the male Yu yet, as no opportunities came up for that (that I've found).
Overall, I'm enjoying what I've played so far. And turrets are my best friends.

I don't want to spoil things too much for you but there is some backtracking into previous areas for missions you get later, so don't feel the need to get everything during your first visit to an area. As for Morgan's sexuality, for plot reasons it seems like it is linked to a specific character, so that would mean male Morgan is straight. I've no issue with games having a romantic subplot or indications of a protagonist's sexuality. Most stories have romantic elements to them, as it is simply another way that humans interact with each other. I do have an issue with the current trend in games of only male protagonists get romantic subplots and them only getting straight romantic subplots. Big name male protagonists like Geralt, Nathan Drake, Link, basically every Final Fantasy protagonist, every GTA protagonist, the list goes on, all get straight romantic subplots were as big name female protagonists like Lara Croft, Aloy, Jade, Chell, etc, don't get any romantic subplots at all. (This is particularly frustrating with Aloy because there are at least two people who are clearly flirting with her and it's just ignored). For this reason, I think it's really nice to have a LGBT set protagonist for an AAA game. Also, turrets are the best.

But the fact that they didn't give you a choice in the matter is what I'm complaining about. And I figured that much, I kept going back because I wanted to see what new doors I could unlock. I admit, that I found it awesome to gain access to new areas. The early game reminds me a lot of Alien Isolation. Except you can fight back if you get cornered. God I wish you could have fought back in that game. Setting up ambushes with turrets is all manner of fun. Glue the crap out of the big guys, and let the turrets do the rest.

Yeah, I finished playing it as well. Gameplay wasn't particularly amazing, after I slogged for awhile and didn't particularly enjoy the rather bullet-spongy enemies, I decided to cheat. Using CE I added a bunch of neuromods, that made the gameplay somewhat more tolerable. As for the plot, some aspects were a surprise, but I figured out most of the plot in the first third of the game. Including the "reveal" in the post credit scene - because I paid attention to the implications of some of the research notes and emails. I actually liked this reveal, and also the decision you make at the end of the game. Personally I didn't find January's arguments particularly convincing. He implies that preserving Typhon-technology would leave "blood in the water", while blowing up the station won't. This is a rather strange argument, as at this point the blood is already in the water, all that's left to do is to prepare yourself for when the sharks come.
The post credits ending made this conundrum irrelevant anyway, which is an aspect I found rather annoying.
I don't feel like this game has much replayability though, which is a shame I guess, but oh well. All in all a solid and enjoyable game, not amazing, but good. Towards the end I used the material recycling glitch to do much the same thing and get more neuromods. I was fine with my setup was it was, because I was able to take it slow but at the end they through so much crap at my that I was like fuck this and got additional neuromods to make it a bit easier. My thoughts on the post credit ending are in the spoiler tags While I had pretty much guessed the ending as well, I was still annoyed by the post credit ending. It turns the whole game into a simulation to test your morality, if you were good you get to live, you if you were bad you get killed.
I spent hours in this game and yet I've no idea what actually happened on Talos 1. Did Morgan fail or did Morgan do everything I did but it was too late and the earth was doomed anyway?
The pre-credit ending left alot of unanswered questions but the post credit ending is like 'don't worry about all your questions, none of it matters, it was just a test to see if you were a good alien or not'

I've enjoyed it. It's less like the second coming of BioShock, more like the second helping. Has some legacy issues of SS2(Frustratingly Death-Heavy Combat, Occasional use of Easter Egg Keycarding), but the newer mechanics like Recycling/Fabricator and Mimic abilities are nice touches. Keeping it short for now, I've still got a few side quests and a healthy bit of the main left, my playthrough moving at the speed of this. The Jumping/Hover mechanic helps with the whole flow of combat. It's cool.

I haven't finished, but I've played it for a bit.
I think a I enjoy it so far, but I don't think I'm actually enjoying the combat. Particularly now that I've stumbled upon some that seem resistant to the GLOO gun. It's becoming more annoying than I actually enjoy.

Haven't finished it but I'm enjoying it so far. Atmosphere has been great but took a small hit when I got the scanner upgrade that instantly tells me which items in the room are mimics.
Which is a bit of a shame because the atmosphere is making up for the rather mediocre combat the game has. What started out as the feeling that anything in the room could attack me has turned into systematic cleaning up of each room I enter.

I finished it. Still have some side quests to finish and long lists of e-mails to potentially read, but it was definitely a favorite of the ones I've played so far.

I loved it! I thought the gameplay was awesome! Especially how you could almost always find another way to solve a problem. For instance with closed off rooms if you didn't find the code you could hack them, if they needed a keycard and you didn't have it you could often find another way in, be it a vent or climbing into the ceiling as it were and climb in that way. Or find a passage behind the walls and smash through a looking glass (or windows). Or if a door was blocked and you couldn't lift the object you could throw an explosive canister at it, or put a recycle charge on it and set it off to get rid of the objects blocking your path. The combat itself... I did enjoy it, because I kept puzzling the best way to kill the creatures without wasting ammo. The wrench however was frustrating especially with those mimics jumping at your face all the time. (I used the slow time gimmick on them more than the bigger ones.) I also love how much effort they put into smaller details you could find in the emails/ transcripts etc.
I also agree with OP about Morgan's sexuality, it's just nice to play a set protagonist (in a relatively big game) who doesn't fit in the standard box. (Male Morgan still qualifies for this as well as Asian leads in big games - or you know other media - is still pretty rare as well.)
Not that I don't have a lot of games I love who do have the stubble bearded brunet dude, but for the sake of changing things up every once in a while it's nice.
The things I enjoyed a little less were the design of the aliens. I LOVE the overall design of the game, but the aliens were boring, even if I get that the kind of shapeless blob look of them had a reason behind it. I also saw the ending coming a mile away, but the only part that really disappointed me about the story was the ending(s) before the credits. It just felt like they were all a bit rushed. Like there was a scene missing or something. I did like the after credits scene - even if I was waiting for it from very early on in the story and it could have used a little extra attention. I also hated the hacking mini-game and I'm the person who usually loves mini games, but this one was awful.

Sometimes I find hacking mini-games long winded and annoying but this one was just challenging enough without feeling like a hindrance. I also enjoyed the multiple paths you can take while exploring. Although I felt that they wanted you to use the GLOO gun to make bridges or ladders throughout the game but I thought that the jumping wasn't really good enough to rely on that mechanic for exploration. And despite what the game tells you, there really are some neuromods that are mandatory to have fun, so you can't really "play your way"

I don't have much time to write because I should be working, but I completed the game last night.
Overall, it's decent and the after credits twist is just enough to make the story memorable (Also a little annoying, though I had guessed part of it pretty early in the game). However, I kept comparing this game to Bioshock and Dishonored in my head, both of which I consider superior to this game in most respects.
The Typhon just aren't very interesting enemies. Their design is, frankly, dull. Black blobs are only so interesting to look at for so long. The mimics surprise you occasionally, but it ends up being a gimmick that loses its novelty pretty quickly. They will need to be reworked if there's a sequel. They recycled a lot of enemy types and nowhere was there a special enemy that stuck out to you the way Big Daddies did in Bioshock. Sure there was that Nightmare thing, but it lacked the character, interesting design, and payoff that made Big Daddies work. It was just another samey black blob monster. The combat has a few fun aspects but with the sheer volume of stuff they throw at you it becomes a slog.
I didn't try out all the powers, but I didn't find that they meaningfully changed up the gameplay that much. I kept thinking about Dishonored and all the variable ways powers and equipment could be used to get around the world and take out enemies in that game, less so here. The game world is beautiful and I liked the Zero G sections, but it was all far less dynamic than I would have liked. And towards the end the areas become so clogged with enemies that it's very hard to actually appreciate the world. I started sprinting past them to preserve what limited ammo I had to get to areas. It doesn't help that that Coral substance gets everywhere by that point so you can't see much.
That said, I did enjoy the weapons and crafting mechanic. The characters were often a bit flat, but worked well enough. The Transcribes worked well to flesh out the world for the most part, though maybe they could have done better with some of the bigger characters. I would have liked more insight into Alex and Morgan's relationship and maybe humanize the former a bit more. And the aesthetics of the world were all great, as I said, but Talos I is no Rapture.
I guess that pretty much sums up how I feel about Prey when it comes down to it. I like it, but there are games like this that are better than this.

I know this thread is long dead, but I'm 2/3 of the way thru Prey and damn I'm loving it. I thought it would suck tbh, given the general reaction to the game, but if you dig deep into the emails and audiologs there's quite a bit of story there.
