base sustained 240 damage tics; 3 times per second 5 second base MAX duration base DOT 120 damage; tics 2 times per second ; takes 1 second of sustained to reach the UI listed damage .. ( *0.2 1 sustained tick // *0.4 2 sustained stacks ticks// *0.5 3 sustained stacks ticks max = equals listed UI damage). Dot lasts for 5 seconds (10 ticks) (sustained and DOT have *1 vs health; presumably * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8 6a ) vs armor ; and presumably *1 sustained and *0 DOT vs shields ) sustained DPS is double DOT DPS, important when trying to melt Hydra in one cast. Thus no DOT stacking mechanics a la me3, only a simple DOT charge up to listed value mechanic..
Maximal Total damage per full cast : 240 * (1 + sum power bonuses) * 14/3 * vsdefence * (1 + sum debuffs) + 120 * (1 + sum power bonuses) * 5 * vsdefence * (1 + sum debuffs) my full damage test shows 14 impact ticks not 15.
EDIT : 5B dot bonus is additive . And the duration multiplicative but stacking with other duration bonuses such as Support Systems 30% Power Duration. (with the two duration extenders)
tests numbers vs Health

Since we have the new Turian Agent now, how does Tactical Cloak affect Flamer?
Does it increase the sustained damage and the DoT? Is it an additional +(x) modifier added to other damage bonuses like the bonuses in the Flamer tree? Does the damage bonus last for the entire cast of Flamer, if Flamer was cast from cloak, or just the first two seconds?
Thanks in advance, you guys doing the testing are awesome and very much appreciated!

My current assumption (based on what I recall of srkm00b's tests) is that cloak provides the power bonus for 0.5 seconds without 6b and 2 seconds with 6b. So whatever dots happen to tick while that SHORT damage bonus is active - will get boosted. So probably break 6b cloak with gun and then start sustained flaming for maximum damage output vs boss .. The test numbers in op have 2 +damage evolutions on flamer (rank 3 25% and rank 4a 35%) and 30% from engineering gear ..

I'm a bit confused, when you say it ticks 3 times per second does that mean that it does 240 damage 3 times per second = 720 per second or that 240 damage is spread out over 3 ticks but still 240 total damage per second?

UI lists sustained and DOT effects as Damage per Second. However, in practice they hit multiple times per second so you need to divide the UI base by the number of hits per second to find the base per tick .. in the numeric example you can see things like 240/ 3 and 120/2 .. Even /5 in the case of cryo beam sustained ..

On my merc I have 384 sustained damage, 252 burn per second for 8 seconds. I have 40% power damage from passives and 80% extra armor damage. How much total damage would a full cast do to armor with this setup including the dot burn? How much would putting on the 30% engineering kit add? I think some number examples would be helpful for people(me) to understand better.

hobocommand3r >So does that mean each tick does 80 damage at base then - sustained yes. And 60 for fully charged DOT. But sustained hits more often .. there are numeric examples in the OP .hit the spoiler button to expand. assuming you have the 25% and 35% power damage bonus from flamer itself and no debuffs on target 240 * (1 + sum power bonuses) * 3' * vsdefence * (1 + sum debuffs) + 120 * (1 + sum power bonuses) * 5 * vsdefence * (1 + sum debuffs) with 40% passive PD 240 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4) * 3 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8) + 120 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4) * 5 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8) = 5412 with 30% engineering gear 240 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4 + 0.3) * 3 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8) + 120 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4) * 5 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8 + 0.3) = 6214.8 possible error - damage log shows 1 missing sustained tick (14 instead of 15) ..So total slightly lower than calculated above.

Well thanks. that's some fairly sad damage. But I allready knew it was sad against bosses from using it in game. I miss the me3 stacking dot. I find the best use of flamethrower vs bosses in this game is to just hold the flamer to apply the dot and let it tick in the background as a bit of extra dps while you shoot your gun.

AT best probably and extra *1.5 to the DOT portion ? 240 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4 + 0.3) * 3 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8) + 120 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4) * 1.5 * 5 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8 + 0.3) = 7624.8or maybe *1.5 to base DOT and *1.5 DOT duration so .. 240 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4 + 0.3) * 3 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8) + 120 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4) * 1.5 * 1.5 * 5 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8 + 0.3) = 9739.8Based on SBK's test 5B dot bonus is additive . And the duration multiplicative but stacking with other duration bonuses such as Support Systems 30% Power Duration. (with the two duration extenders) 240 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4 + 0.3) * (14/3 *(1 +0.3)) * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8) + 120 * (1 + 0.25 + 0.35 + 0.4) * (5 * (1+ 0.5 + 0.3)) * (1 + 0.25 + 0.8 + 0.3 + 0.5) = 13021.04

One important thing with the Flamethrower is that the cooldown gets shorter when you also just use it shortly. So on my Turian Agent I cloak, then tap the Flamethrower just shortly to get the DoT up and have the enemy primed for others, then I unload my Crusader which should still get 3 shots buffed by Combat cloak and then I use the Flamethrower again, this time full time. So far this seems to be the fastet way to kill a Berserker for example.

Don't we need to factor in the damage done by the detonating power plus the detonation itself, in order to make a fair comparison?

Don't we need to factor in the damage done by the detonating power plus the detonation itself, in order to make a fair comparison? if you invest skill points and gear slot and consumables to raise that flamer DOT it won't be a fair comparison not by a loooong shot.

Don't we need to factor in the damage done by the detonating power plus the detonation itself, in order to make a fair comparison? Yes. But it's a pretty significant difference in ending the DOT early. Here's some sample logs. This is with KroEng who's not leveled up yet, so I had 2/1/6/6/5. This is an Overload primer and Incinerate Detonator on Armor. Total damage was 6722.762. He was kind enough to stand in the Tech DOT the whole time. Total damage, 5549.117 That's the low end of the fire combo damage. If you look at the total DOT ticks of Incinerate above and work out detonating at the last possible second, it would be 7625.861 damage. So over a 2000 point spread, due to detonating early. Due to this I recommend just doing tech combos. Spec Incinerate for Detonator. You'll hit right in the mid-range, and someone else can come along and blow up your Incinerate primer if they feel like it. Plus you get the ground-based DOT that stuns enemies who walk through. If you're confident that no one is coming along to blow up your DOT, then you can squeak more damage out of Incinerate > Overload, but it's the difference of a couple shotgun blasts.

Don't we need to factor in the damage done by the detonating power plus the detonation itself, in order to make a fair comparison? if you invest skill points and gear slot and consumables to raise that flamer DOT it won't be a fair comparison not by a loooong shot. Sorry, to clarify: Flamer by itself applies DOT which does D total damage over T time Flamer used just enough to apply initial DOT deals D' damage. It is then detonated by power P which deals P damage and initiates a combo dealing C damage, and replacing the DOT with a new fire combo DOT of F. We need to know is D > D' + P + C + F
