So at Weapon Rank X using an AR Barrel and magazine upgrade the Halberd does 250 damage and has 21 rounds.At weapon rank X with the AR barrel and magazine upgrade the Mattock does 150 damage and has 35 rounds.
Both weapons amount to 5250 damage per clip...the difference however is in the fire rate.The Mattock fires faster and this,ladies and gentlemen,is the reason the Mattock is stronger.
This seems strange to me as Bioware did say that rares were going to be stronger than uncommons however the Halberd does have better weak point bonus damage.Regardless the Mattock is the stronger weapon by far.
If you need video confirmation check out the gameplay below - I tried both weapons out in a Gold game on xbox ( I went in blind without having tried out the Mattock at all prior to the gameplay).

I really want to like the semi-auto ARs but my finger is too tired from flipping idiots off all day to have the energy to spam the fire button. Just play with them for a game or two man and swap it out for something else.The Mattock is a total monster now after this patch. |

If they have same damage per clip, I will take slower firing heavier hitting weapon every time. It's the reason why Carnifex was always better than Phalanx as well, even if you buffed Phalanx potential dps to be higher, click spamming is just not efficient.

It's a total monster.Honestly it shits on the Halberd so hard.I used the Havoc Trooper in the video and combining the Mattock with Flak Cannon and Turbocharge is insane.Some of the best damage I've seen so far in ME:A |

They both suck tbh. It's not just about the dps or the full damage you can potentially do with one mag. Is about the fact that you have to be clicking like crazy (if you choose to not use macros) and the fact that accuracy goes to the trash bin real quick the longer you spam fire.
I said it like 10 times now, Bioware, stop the BS. Give these semi auto guns reduced RoF something like 300 RPM max and give them crazy damage. What is the point of spam fire? how's that fun? give them something special, like AP multipliers.

download autohotkey and make a rapid fire script (super easy to find a premade one). not cheating if it's for your health

I do have one of those fancy cheaty controllers that auto-fires with a single trigger pull. I should figure out how to use that with the Mattock.
But I have also read that MEA locks out input if you, er, input it to fast so maybe this will blow up in my face?

I've tested both and would choose the Halberd over the Mat. The Halberd won't stand up in a straight finger pull fest, but if you're pushing headshots and weak points, Halberd will serve you better. If your spraying and praying... there are some sub-machine guns I can interest you...

Isn't there some third party thing for PC players to make any weapon auto fire? I personally have CronusMax Plus to make any version of MEA weapons have auto fire, and that's how I play the Halberd and Mattock. Otherwise I wouldn't. |

Heh, I know. In fact, pre-patch the Predator had more DPS. And to be honest, the Predator still has more accuracy, so in a long range contest I don't know if the Mattock will even win. |
