Preliminary In gethadept’s “Is there a niche for using Krogan Engineer” thread (http://bsn.boards.net/thread/11041/niche-using-krogan-engineer) I was making a comment on Asari duelist claiming her to be one of the best vanguards. Ramsen – being a vanguard connoisseur – questioned that comment assessing her being the worst one (vanguard).
A comment/opinion I cannot resist to argue about. Hence I decided instead of intermixing the Krogan Engineer thread with Asari duelist information/opinion to build up a little thread series about our group of (Marvel-like) avengers in MEAMP, the very special and unique N7 characters!
In ME3MP we have/had the Talon Mercenary, the Krogan Warlord, converted Collector, Geth Prime, EDI-Sexbot etc. who were very special and provided unique features. I believe the ultra-rare N7 characters in MEAMP serve the same purpose and I would like to share with you my 2c opinion about them.
As a matter of fact I’m not a native English speaker hence please forgive me my typos/grammar and should I describe a gameplay feature with what I believe must be the translation (from German) wrongly I hope you still get the meaning/message.
I will share my current favorite builds and what I deem special/unique about the characters. But please do the same like I’m doing. Play around with the characters, it’s easy and cheap to re-skill your characters with the character respec cards so frequently being given in packs and easily on hand via mission funds. Hence my builds should more serve as a (start-up) recommendation than as an ultimate verdict. It’s really fun changing constantly and testing/trying. And don’t forget, there are no weak characters/weapons, every single one has its place and value, don’t limit yourself to only one combination/way of game play.

Asari “Lethal Gertrud” Duelist
Charge: 4a/5b/6a 4a = damage over radius (rather kill a single one completely than a group partially) 5b = power increase over weapon (melee handled by gear) 6a = quick recharge over protecting herself in order to allow her quickly jumping around. 6b is also a very good option, takes you longer to jump again however a more conservative safer build.
Lance: 1 only as it’s nice but backlash is even better imho.
Backlash: 4a/5b/6b 4a = aegis health over recharge speed making backlash stronger 5b = reflected projectiles making more damage 6b = more damage to the remaining health of not yet fully killed enemies after backlash.
Barrier: 4a/5a/6b 4a = shield strength over regeneration 5a = weapon weight and movement speed over shield advantage through melee 6b = the low health life saver.
Offensive Biotics: 4a/5a/6b 4a = power strength instead of recharge 5a = weapon/melee over combo 6b = weapon/melee bonus.
Health: 490 / Shield: 395 with this build, looks like not very strong on numbers, but she is very durable and can take a lot of damage before going down.

The build is based on a rank X level 20 character. Obviously you won't start with a rank X card hence you won't be able to distribute all 85 skill points from the very beginning even if leveled up to 20 already which is even more highly recommended. If so my recommendation is to go for charge first and leave out both lance, backlash and offensive biotics 6b. Rest to be skilled later on when higher rank cards are available.
Equipment: Juggernaut Shield by all means, +10% shields/+75% melee? A no-brainer. Second best one would be the Adaptive War Amp to strengthen the powers. Edit: Now with patch 1.08 I would still go with the moloch replacement Titan Shield. Basically the less melee from the shield should be balanced by her now higher base melee strength.
Booster: 1st choice is Power Efficiency to quicker recharge Charge/Backlash, 2nd one up to your preference and depending on the enemy faction.

What makes her special? First of all the N7 characters are kind of mixtures from different classes. The Asari duelist I perceive as a mixture from a vanguard and a sentinel. However what a strong one! Did you ever want to run through the battlefield like a tarantula on speed? Not bothering about useless barriers like walls or rocks? Try her, she is a different experience. So what is it all about?
First her sentinel-like backlash skill. Perfect against Remnant observers, Kett destined and how are these cloaking Kett guys with shotguns called? Yes, you got it, the anointed. Just watch them all committing suicide when shooting against your aegis shield.
Second her vanguard-like melee attack – Asari sword. It’s strong although the animation takes a little bit of time. But with the build above plus juggernaut shield believe me she can easily instant-kill the majority of cannon fodder in one attack.
Third she can charge. Meaning you see a foe at long distance across the map (Icebreaker for instance)? Just jump over, melee attack and done even on gold. For the bosses and semi-bosses like berserkers of course you still should shoot after melee to finish off otherwise Asari sword must be used several times and do the close combat knife work (but it works).
Now the fourth and most important, the very unique one. Teleportation. Both her melee attack and dodging maneuver teleport you through everything in your way. Ever having been fed up with your character running through rooms on Zero or Magma to get to the next device? Not so with Lethal Gertrud. Run her directly to the wall, dodge and you are in the next room (or can get you from one to the outside), next wall, dodge, next room… No other character can bridge the space between A and B as quickly as she can, only charge can go over larger distances quicker but that obviously requires a foe at hand.
Ever jumped on the platform on Zero separating the two travel paths from spawning/exfiltration and camping zone at the other end of the map? Of course you did. With Gertrud just run to the rock, dodge and you will find yourself (herself to be precise) on top and end of the platform ready to charge to the next foe you see on the other travel path. Jumping through walls directly into a crowd of enemies who didn’t see you coming and creating a little bit of confusion and quickly escape through the next wall in case skirmish becomes a little bit tight? – no worries. With her everything is possible. You see, I clearly have a few of my funds with her and I really do like this character. It’s quick, it’s strong and teleporting is pure undiluted utmost fun. The one and only killer bride! And imho best vanguard!
Have fun.

Formatting could use some work. Maybe a link to the character planer/editor thingy.

Formatting could use some work. Maybe a link to the character planer/editor thingy. Thanks for the feedback. My first try hence I ask for merciful appraisal. Formatting I did in word however it obviously doesn't copy it. I added a few paragraphs maybe that helps a little bit. Character planer/editor? Most likely I missed something... Could you illuminate me, please?

Great topic and very timely, since I just got my Duelist to Rank X and have been playing this kit a lot. Been burning through a lot of Respec cards, and while the gameplay you describe is similar to how I play her, my current build has the following differences:.
Charge: 4b, 5a, 6b because I am frequently charging into a crowd and wrecking groups of enemies at a time
Backlash: 4b, 5b, 6b for faster recharge of the shield. I have found the durability to be strong enough to protect myself against Ovserver beams and Anoited Aoned spam so I am favoring recharge to use a backlash more often.
Lance: 1 point. Originally, I had her species for shield-powered Lance with just one point in backlash, but I am fine using it as a quick detonator (if I am using an ammo booster). Also experimented with knockdown which is fun to use in combination with Biotic Warrior to temporarily disable another enemy when I charge into a group.
She completely trivializes Remnant, especially Observers (the bane of my Kineticist). I am been dabbling in Gold Solos, and I think she is going to be used for my next attempt.
Great weapons to use included the Dhan, Hurricane, Soned and Talon. I repeat charge, backlash, shoot, and melee (with lance as a sometimes finishing blow) and it's great fun. Would use the Venom more if it worked liked it did in ME3 where one can have it charged while running or when charging into enemies.
Will definitely respec her to your power-based build to see how it works, especially now that melee has been boosted in the 1.08 patch.
The Duelist has a variety of capable builds and is definitely worthy of her UR status.

While I dearly love the Duelist, I find that she doesn't flow as smoothly as the Human or Krogan Vanguards do.
That teleporting melee mechanic interrupts and slows the action down. However shes tanky and fun

Agree. Anyway I often just charge and then try to teleport/dodge away or to the next target. Often by purpose I avoid to use "doors" or normal ways just to watch her tunneling through the next wall or on top of the next solid barrier and see where she ends up.
