Hidy ho all,
I have an MP3 of the imperial alarm used in the starwars universe. Its 10 minutes of the alarm looping. What I'd like to do is take 1 loop of that alarm (about 3 seconds), and create a new mp3 and wav of that sound.
But I can't seem to find a place that explains how to go about doing that.
What I'd like to do is set that alarm as my ring tone, and a notification alarm for outlook (needs to be a wav file for this purpose).
Does anyone know how to do this? Or even where to start looking?

Audacity
It's like Paintbrush Pro, but then for music. Takes some figuring out but your request should be doable. On a plus note, your edited files are automatically saved as a .wav file ( amongst others ).
Edit : you will need to find a separate .wav to .mp3 converter though as it cannot do that due to copyright and liability issues or something like that.

Yup, Audacity I use it to increase the pitch of songs so they sound really squeaky like Alvin and the Chipmunks and its hilarious Anyhow, its pretty easy to cut parts out once you download it

Hm, ok I'll give that a shot. Thanks all!
Now as for cutting out the sounds I want, is that as simple as copying and pasting?
To my mind, something like that would be selecting the length of sound you'd like, right clicking, and having either a copy/cut function and pasting it to another track. or something like 'export' where you can export that length of sound, to a different file.
But then, I've never tried Audacity before, so I have no idea how it would actually work.
