Hmmmm about Denmark... what to say... 3 things or facts.. It’s cold, people has the best humor in the world and lastly most are so carefree that they dress and do whatever the hell they like without caring about what anyone else thinks about them. I love that one, it means you’re free to be yourself no matter what. There’s a lot more to say ofc like how free most are around nudity lol, not all mind you and how sex is very openly discussed but that would mean more than “3 facts” this thread says and I’m kinda too lazy right now to type more sooo... Common OWA you can do better then that here are some other facts about your country ... just a few : *Snip* Wow Patricia you shame me It’s just me being morning lazy lol. I just got up and haven’t had more than one cup of coffee yet, which means that I’m still a walking corpse

Dane are relaxed when it comes to issues such as marriage. The country’s divorce rate is one of the highest in Europe, and nearly 20% of Danish couples cohabitate without ever getting married in what are called “paperless marriages.” So relaxed, that divorce rates are high. Oh Europe and the US and their divorce rates

Some more random facts about Germany:
(1) Germany's capital, the inland city of Berlin, has 197km of inner-city waterways. That's more than Amsterdam and Venice combined.
(2) The first jet aircraft that could reliably fly, the Heinkel He-178, was developed and built in Germany in 1939.
(3) The German forests have almost mythological status in German culture. While being one of the most densely populated countries in the world, about a third of Germany's territory is covered by forests. Forests feature prominently in fairy tales and as a romantic idyll in many people's imagination.
(4) In Germany, it is not illegal to escape from jail, on grounds of there being a natural desire to be free which is part of human dignity, which is protected by the constitution. You are, however, liable for any damage you cause during an escape attempt, and helping someone else escape is still illegal. And of course, you still have to serve your original sentence if you're caught.
(5) In Germany, it is illegal to engage in noisy activities on Sundays if that could disturb your neighbours. Also, almost all shops are closed by law, so if you're a shop owner, you are, as a rule, not allowed to open it on Sundays. Several proposals to change this have been rejected. Apparently, Germans are fond of their quiet day and would like it to remain untouched by a working day's hustle.
(6) "Fucking Hell" is a German beer brand. "Fucking" is a village near Austria's German border, after which the beer is named, and "hell", meaning "light", is a beer category. Of course the naming was completely innocuous...
(7) Germany is one of the few countries to have no general speed limit for cars on motorways. Where traffic and road conditions permit, it's not unusual to drive at 200kph if your car can do it.
(8) In 2016, Germany exported goods worth 1.3 trillion USD. That's almost as much as the United States (1.47 trillion USD).

Well, yes, you can find such lists on the internet, which is why I avoided duplicating them in my list as a rule. BTW, the number of castles is wrong. Depending on what exactly you count, it's actually between 600 and 30000. Germany was a tapestry of small states through a large part of its history, and the number of castles reflects that. Even using a conservative count, you can find more than 200 in Rhineland-Palatinate alone. You're Swiss, right? I have a cousin who married a Swiss man and now lives in Switzerland. Other than that, I love Swiss chocolate (really, who doesn't) and I spent two winter holidays there back in the 1980s. I also had a Swiss girlfriend for a short time, also back in the 1980s. Yes, me, too. Fun, isn't it? If I had to limit myself to 100kph like in some countries, driving long distances would be so boring that I'd fall asleep.

Of course sometimes both go hand in hand.

Yes i am Swiss at the moment but i was not born in Switzerland ... and indeed who doesn't love our chocolate it's the best. But that was the last time ( 1980s ) that you were over here ? Yes a lot of fun and yes me to i would also fall asleep if i had to drive a 100kph on long distances and with me saying that is that i almost never keep to the speed limits in other countries.

Though the police force in particular is less corrupt and more incompetent. Still... such law is simply ridiculous. So does that mean it's not a big deal if a serial killer or a dangerous rapist escapes from prision? His desire for freedom would matter absolutely nothing as far as any resonable person is concerned.

Especially if they're considered dangerous, you can expect dramatic efforts to catch escaped criminals, and successful escapes are rare. Almost all who manage to escape are caught within a few days. The difference is just that their attempt to escape as such doesn't result in an additional charge.

No, that was a joke... It's illegal to escape from jail in here. And they are both incompetent and corrupt, in virtually equal measures. Of course it's a big deal. Especially if they're considered dangerous, you can expect dramatic efforts to catch escaped criminals, and successful escapes are rare. Almost all who manage to escape are caught within a few days. The difference is just that their attempt to escape as such doesn't result in an additional charge. Maybe if you did, they wouldn't try to escape as much. Who would risk it knowing they can get 10 extra years in thier sentence?

I don't travel a lot, and back then I was living in Southern Germany, so it was easy. Now I'm living 800km from the Swiss border, and for vacations I'm more drawn to the North-West of Europe. Why does that sound familiar? The only time I scrupulously stuck to the speed limit was in Eastern Germany, also in the 1980s, before the reunification, because you never know what they do with you for minor infractions in a totalitarian police state. I wouldn't have chosen to visit at all, but it was a business trip.

Okay because i'm in a good mood today i forgive you this one time because 800km ( that's only about 4 hours ) is not that far when you can travel with a no speed limitation. You to ... i see myself more or less like a cannonball runner.

Dane are relaxed when it comes to issues such as marriage. The country’s divorce rate is one of the highest in Europe, and nearly 20% of Danish couples cohabitate without ever getting married in what are called “paperless marriages.” So relaxed, that divorce rates are high. Oh Europe and the US and their divorce rates That’s true actually! But I don’t think that’s limited so much to us Danes (even though I’m divorced too) and the US, I think it’s these times today and circumstances, people are less likely to stay faithful or stay attached to the same person forever, it’s sad!

Maybe in the night of Saturday to Sunday at 2am. At any other time, I'd need two hours just to get out of the Rhine/Ruhr metropolitan region.

In Iceland alcholic beverges can only be sold by the state (vìnbùðin or the winestore) and resturants with the correct licence. But there are no laws on selling non alcholic drinks, so our supermarkets usually have non alchoholic versions of popular beers on the shelves. So protip if you visit Iceland and see some sucpicously cheap booze in a grocery store, it's definetly not alcohol.

There are weird traffic lights in Austria. Before the green switches to yellow, the green flashes a few times. Then it turns yellow, then red. So basically, there is an announcement about the announcing of red lights. There's no turning right at a red traffic light either (although the concept is being looked into atm).
Smoking restrictions are not nearly as severe as in other European countries. Even in restaurants, the so-called separated smoking area sometimes is not separated at all, meaning you shouldn't be surprised when you come back from dinner smelling like an ashtray. Some establishments even may choose to allow smoking in all areas.
Also, you need to bag your own groceries, no one will do that for you. Plastic bags will cost you a few cents, so many people bring their own shopping bag. In general, plastic packaging materials are finally declining, and are being slowly replaced by biodegradable materials.
Legal drinking age for beverages like beer and wine is 16.
It's quite rare to have AC at home. In malls, offices, restaurants, hotels etc. you can encounter them frequently, but I personally know exactly one family with AC in their living room and bedrooms.
Well, I tried to stick to facts rather than observations, but I just can't leave out this one: waiters - especially in old Viennese coffee houses - are quite rude. Well, rude is not the right term actually. They are polite enough, and at the same time they have the inherent talent to let you know that you with your strange orders are a mere nuissance to their existence relaxed day at work. It's part of their charm, I'm told. My definition of charming might differ, as I do not find that charming at all.

Interesting. If I only knew what "AC" was... Air conditioning. Thanks. Are there countries where people have that commonly in their homes?

Air conditioning. Thanks. Are there countries where people have that commonly in their homes? The USA, China, Japan, South America and others. In hot areas, if people can afford air conditioning, they install it. Europe has a mild climate, so it's uncommon there. source
