I'm failing to understand how it works. These missions are like "prequels" you do BEFORE you start the "main" Xcom 2 campaign, or who the bollocks does it work? It's a bridge between XCom 1 and 2, wholly separate from the main story. Basically what Bradford was doing during that 20 year gap. Completing each arc also gives you some old EU weapons and armor you can use in the main campaign. Nice! Looking forward to this. It is already available?
Regardless, however, what I really want is XCOM:EU/EW with XCOM2 mechanics. I don't suppose anyone has made a mod to that effect?

Got through the first story and got a silver rating.
Gold must be seven flawless missions or something...

I was trying to suspend disbelief after picking up the skulljack for the second (I think) mission in the first story. By the final mission in the first story, all hope of plot coherence has totally gone out the window. Probably best to treat it just as a good fun romp through updated versions of the old maps, or try to mentally separate what Bradford is telling you about the story from what you're actually doing.

Got through the first story and got a silver rating. Gold must be seven flawless missions or something... Got a gold with some pretty reckless play. Must have had an injury in every mission and lost 3 of my squad on final mission. You get more points for killing things quickly, especially if you take out a couple on round one. Looks like mind controlled meat shields are still listed as casualties on mission report, which always bothered me slightly.

Apparently there’s a lot he doesn’t remember.
It just seems a bit of a shame because it all would have worked just as well keeping tech level and alien progression relatively low, and in keeping with the plot of the two games. They could have a plot point of finding say early carapace and laser prototypes (as high as I would have gone) somewhere in the one of the stories.
And then when you move to the next story, you’re bumped back down to conventional weapons.
It’s a bit weird, but good fun all the same.

Yes it’s out now and free to anyone who has War of the Chosen Thx for the info. It turned out Steam had already downloaded it as a free update to WotC. Given that I bought WotC but haven't played it yet, these missions are a nice re-intro to the XCOM universe and I'm actually getting nostalgic from playing on the EU-style maps.
Since it appears you've been already playing it: is there any use for the Skulljack in these missions? I get it as an upgrade option, but I can't see which purpose it may serve. It isn't as if you have capture objectives in these missions, and if you had, the Skulljack wouldn't be optional.

But it does one-shot any ADVENT soldier you hit with it. Edit: I go for the ammo upgrades myself, though.

Thanks, and if you don't mind one more question: can you pick up the loot dropped by the Chryssalids in the second mission sequence? Normally you'd do that automatically once you reach the area where the stuff dropped - at least so I recall it from basically everywhere in the game - but that doesn't happen here, and I can't find a pick-up function.
Also, I wonder how many people manage to get Gold medals. The reckless playstyle required isn't exactly rewarded in this game as a rule....

I’ve only done the first mission in the second sequence. No drops there so I can’t comment. Getting a gold rating must rely on luck more than skill

Getting a gold rating must rely on luck more than skill I came close in the second sequence: 294500 of 300000 points. The second sequence is WAY easier than the first, with only one terror mission and that one much easier than any of the three you get in the first sequence. However, these few thousand points - hard to imagine how I might've gotten them. There were 3 civilians I didn't rescue, but I can't imagine how I could've done that. In another mission, I lost one turn to an unlucky sequence of misses and had to deal with three Codex clones, that might've gone better. Everything else, however, went rather smoothly. In particular, the combination of Templar and Psi Operative gives you quite a few reliable options to deal with difficult situations.

I take it back about the early kills bonus, that's not very significant at all.
I think restarting missions costs you points, though.
I managed gold on the 2 I completed, each with a couple of mission restarts, a few deaths and several wounded. You certainly don't need all flawless missions, at least on the harder difficulty level.

Make that 3 for 3. Final stats for Avenger Assemble, if it helps: Nightmare difficulty Aliens killed: 97 Bonus Points: 16500 Missions failed: 0 (I think maybe 2 restarts) Soldiers wounded: 15 Soldiers lost: 9 (I think including hacked robots and mimics). 2 or 3 actual soldiers) Turns taken: 95

Do Meme Bacons equal loss? Not for anything that matters. They always showed up as soldiers killed in mission reports though in base game and looks like they do here as well. Same with mind controlled or hacked units. So you could get a “flawless” victory apparently with one or two soldiers killed.

Finally got gold on the third campaign. I'm surprised at how well I was able to use the premade team. Lily pure combat specialist Phantom ranger Reaper Gunner grenadier Skirmisher Sniper serving.photos.photobox.com/14046926d1d13b3979df9755498193433b2db8ae646a63e85bf4e9fd929b5044968eb135.jpgSniper dies in the last 2 turns: 1. Last enemy is an Avatar with 2 health mind controls my gunner and teleports far away 2. Spiper is the only one in range but out of ammo so I move him close enough for a 100% pistol shot but he's in the open 3. He GRAZES the avatar and deals ONE POINT OF DAMAGE 4. The avatar teleports even farther away so there's no killing him this turn 5. I flasbang the gunner because I know that even though there are closer targets, she will go for the sniper 6. She scores a DAZED RUPTURE FOR 11 POINTS insta killing him.

Going to start a PT later today. Any recommended mods for the base game + all the DLC's? Sadly Long War 2 was never updated for WotC IIRC, so that's out. He, I started my first WotC playthrough on Sunday as well. Tell me how it goes. Strategic decisions seem to be more difficult now, with all the new options.
As for mods, I can post my modlist later this day. AWC mods make the game crash since the AWC has been replaced, so if your game crashes, that might be it. My other mods appear to be functional after I replaced several of them with their WotC versions.

Well I know that an awesome mod to have is: XCOM 2 RPG Overhaul. It requires the X2WOTCCommunityHighlander mod to work, but it really gives you complete control on how you want to level your soldiers. That, and the sheer amount of add-on mods to this one overhaul bring hundreds of new powers and traits to your game.
Some other cool mods to have (IMO) are:
[WOTC] Shiv Mod Primary Secondaries Mod Everything Reloaded Peak from Concealment Gotcha Again
