Seeing as no one seems to think VGChartz is a reputable source (and more relevant information is in the NPD June source) Let's do some reading between the lines. EA just happened to have a recent franchise that had a perceivedly weak instalment akin to Andromeda. Thoughts? Or are these similarities just happenstance? DS3: "While we have not announced sales for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and the franchise remains an important IP to EA," an EA spokesperson told Eurogamer. MEA: "We’re very happy with how BioWare is doing and how BioWare is treating Mass Effect. Our expectations for the Mass Effect IP are strong for the future." DS3: "VideoGamer's source claims EA executives informed Visceral Montreal last month... with details of the company's restructuring plans." MEA: “With our BioWare and Motive teams sharing studio space in Montreal, we have BioWare team members joining Motive projects that are underway. We’re also ramping up teams on other BioWare projects in development.” DS3: "EA believed Dead Space 3 could comfortably outsell its predecessors, with company CEO John Riccitiello saying he could see the game selling 5 million units. EA announced Dead Space 3 pre-orders were "outpacing" those for Dead Space 2 in January's earnings call, although the publisher didn't disclose by what margin." MEA: "EA didn’t actually mention Mass Effect: Andromeda in its earnings release, even though this was the publisher’s only major game that came out during the fourth fiscal quarter ended March 31." If I recall correctly, MEA cost $40 million to make. So assuming this is right, with PS4 copies alone they not only got that back but also made over $20 million in profit. Again, that's PS4 alone not counting Xbox One and PC sales. Sure sounds like a success to me.

Sure sounds like a success to me. $40 sounds about right... But you can't assume they're selling for full price everywhere. They're $12.99 at Goodwill, you can currently get them at BestBuy in Canada for $19.99, and they've been on sale almost non-stop since release. Probably easy to find Andromeda for 50% off right now almost everywhere. |

The others have stayed near the top, while ME:A has dropped down.
I've always wondered what the sale were like after all the pre-orders and early purchases. What effect all of the negative press had on the game's sales.

The others have stayed near the top, while ME:A has dropped down. I've always wondered what the sale were like after all the pre-orders and early purchases. What effect all of the negative press had on the game's sales. For May, Andromeda slipped to 15th place - NPD hasn't released June/July figures yet, though. Will be interesting to see. My prediction is that after the initial sales/preorders, sales have tanked. |

What does that information mean to any discussion we are having? You just posted a link without any personal context to why you think it might be interesting to the community here to talk about.
Yes it is about half of what Mass Effect 3 sold on the 360 in the same period of time, I also think it was foolhardy of EA to expect that Andromeda would do as well as Mass Effect 3 given the internet's dislike for the franchise and BioWare now. The other factor is continued increase in digital sales, which could mean there are plenty more sales from people that have bought digitally since the industry as a whole has stayed flat on physical sales, but digital sales have been increasing.
Plenty of talking points and I would have appreciated if you tried to start a conversation instead of just dropping information that suits your personal narrative and walking away.

I think that might be skewed by mobile games - which are included in that figure. I'd be surprised, for instance, if there were many players that chose to download a 42gb game to their consoles in lieu of owning the physical disc. On PC, sure, digital rules - but Mass Effect has always sold more on consoles according to data for the trilogy. |

But Dragon Age:Origins Sales picked back up. I looked at the sales week by week for as long as they were being tracked starting Apr 1st, it's just been a steady decline for ME:A. Origins is an example of what good reviews and word of mouth can do for a game. |
