Well, I have taken to level drinking in my recent playthrough. Not the fancy stuff, tho - proper beer for a proper lad is what I say. Can't seem to raise my stealth level - I guess it has to do with the beer guzzling. Stealth raises when you lockpick or pickpockets, you can also raise your stealth level quicker by knocking out or killing people stealthily. Guess I should train my pickpocketing more at the mill...

It was written by Czechs what were you expecting? Gotta find some use for that drinking skill. Then again does higher drinking skill have any effect on these quests? Not seeing the point of the drinking skill seems pretty useless to me. The higher your skill, the more booze you can handle. So I guess it helps to lessen the debuffs you get when you're lit.

Not seeing the point of the drinking skill seems pretty useless to me. You get a buff on e.g. strength and speech and such, followed by a malus. Skill is supposed to prolong buffs, shorten the malus. There is a perk to make handling locks easier - I was eyeing to try that one out - never was able to tackle the hardest locks.

Completed the "Next to Godliness" quest last night. Just how many questlines in this game revolve around binge drinking with the quest giver!? I have counted 3 thus far. with one of them in the main quest.

okay, why did a guard suddenly come up to me and demanded to search me for stolen gear?
Fortuantely I managed to stash the only stolen item I had (a book) onto my horse just before this happened.

Happened to me frequently from the moment I set foot in Rattay, I don't know if it is because I stole and sold and heap of shit on the prologue or if it is because it always happens randomly.

I've never had that happen to me until I accidentally tried to sell some stolen game and the clerk told me to take it back because he didn't need the trouble (although I don't know how the guy knew it was stolen to begin with). It was only a day later when a guard wanted to search me, my guess is the store clerk spread word around that I was a thief. Although I don't know what your situation is, but I feel like if you get caught for anything the guards will start to be suspicious. seriously, is there any conceivable way to know if meat has been stolen?! That kind of pissed me off.

It should have the red hand icon next to it to indicate that it has been stolen, however some items this icon can go away after time and the item will no longer be classified as stolen, I think the rarer and more valuable the item the longer it takes, alternatively you can always sell the item to a fence and buy it back and it will no longer be classified as stolen as well.

Did you steal stuff around Rattay recently (as in in-game days)? Guards search people coming into/leaving the city based on crimes being reported. In my game, they are bugged though, they say they find stolen stuff but they do not fine/arrest me, do not take anything and on top of that I actually have nothing stolen on me. It's weird. tip: Meat can be cooked to remove the stolen flag.

I don't think they arrest you if they find stolen things on you during a search, they just confiscate the item and tell you to move along. Also are you sure it is based on crimes being reported? Even if I have not stolen things in Rattay the guards will still ask to search me, happened first time I set foot in the city straight from waking up at the mill.

I was fined (well I paid the fine) for having stolen game meat by a gamekeeper (except I had no meat on me at the time but whatever, lol). "Rattay" covers everything that belongs to Lord Capon. It goes all the way to Neuhof up North. I find it weird that it happened the first time fresh out of the mill though. Some of them might be random road events then (like the gamekeeper). I did have one that dropped me out of fast travelling right outside of the city gate, but another one was a normal guard accosting me while walking in town.

That seemed to be the end of it for a while... Edit: also, I've only ever sold stolen goods to Theresa's uncle.

Speaking of stealing: how are you supposed to tell what items in your inventory are stolen and which aren't outside of committing to memory everything you steal? Or am I experiencing a bug and whatever visual indicator there is just isn't showing? It would be nice to know what I'd have to stash away or sell to the miller if I wanted to be safe from guards searching me if I fail the dialogue check.
Oh and what is it that triggers that wonky grapple thing when fighting unarmed where your arms get tied up in a pretzel before you get pushed away, and nobody seems to take any damage? Or the thing where you get kneed in the face? Fighting with weapons feels a lot clearer than the fist fighting.
And I don't know if this is a design decision or something not working like it's supposed to, but during one of those checks for stolen goods I got searched, tried to run and got the shit beat out of me by the guards and sent to jail for 10 days. What then followed was an unexaggerated ~10 minutes of mandatory staring at the black loading screen as the clock SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWLY turned hour by hour until 10 days had passed. Couldn't even hit Esc to reload a save which would've been a million times faster. I didn't like that, to put it mildly.

It gets trickier once some time has passed or when you just have more stuff in general to remember what is and isn't stolen. I guess it was just some bug, idk.

Anyone doing that quest for the legendary sword that has pieces scattered around? The Swordsmith in Rattay doesn't want to sell his piece, and when I broke into his house I found that all of his boxes / safes have a "Very Hard" lock, which I can't crack. (literally can't, the pick breaks immediately even when gold) I think your lockpicking has to be 15 or above before you can start picking those locks, however I believe the sword piece should be in one of the easier chests in the back room on the second floor. That said you can get a better sword much easier while doing the "next to godliness" quest provided you don't mind nicking some of Lord Capon's gear.

I don't remember the name, but it's supposed to be an heirloom of some sort, the stats are probably among the best I've seen so far, including the top-tier swords you can buy. I take it you encounter him through a random event?

seriously, is there any conceivable way to know if meat has been stolen?! That kind of pissed me off. Realistically speaking? I think that this is supposed to represent the fact that unless you were the certified hunter, you weren't supposed to have access to the kind of meat you would get from hunting. So basically it would be considered illegal unless you could prove otherwise. Or that's my impression at least. Woods and game belong to the lord. Hunting is a privilege reserved for nobility and minions of the lord in question. In game you may meet poachers in the woods (illegal hunters) and sometimes you can even run into the official gamekeeper who'll question you to your presence in the woods. So if you turn up with a load of fresh game meat basically everyone knows it's poached because they know you're not allowed to hunt. Cooking the game meat is a cheesy way to circumvent that.

I think the St George sword is better yet? Finished the epilogue already? Then you should know where to find it. Last campsite

Ok, so Im right in the beginning. Learning to pick locks, and pick pocket. and these are def not for me.
I frustration quit the other day, because I was able to complete the first lockpick mission your sent to do. But then, had to reload because the guy teaching me to pick pocket ran for the gaurds.
So I reloaded, and I I couldn't get a single lock picked! I tried 3-4 times, and just couldn't manage it. So I quit. I'm looking into mods atm, to help or replace the lockpick mini game. I wouldn't even mind so muh, if it was a percetage chance thing. ut this now is very frustrating.
