I like the game so far, but this combat is a terrible chore for me. Learned riposte already? The game becomes kinda easy with it. Also, my 1st scrub run was with Henry the Hare - a dedicated horse archer.

"Today I found out"
Riposte auto-attacks? I always tried to time perfect block AND strike within a short window to make it work. I challenged Ulrich and wanted to farm a bit defense and suddenly realised that I dint need to press an attack to actually have it counterstrike! Doh. Thought it was working like combos. Makes it too easy, imo and now I can't really play with enemies like the cat does with mouse.

Any infiltration tips for the Nest of Vipers quest? I just got stuck on that last night. There's an entrance through a building in the north, look just to the right of the tower on the map. In there is also a chest with a bunch of Cuman gear. Put all of it on, and you have yourself a disguise that gives you more freedom to move around. I had no idea that there would be a disguise mechanic there, I got super frustrated trying to figure out how I was supposed to sneak to their arrows and food since there's still plenty of guys roaming around with torches during the night, so I ended up doing a little Googling. The other Cumans can still approach you when you're disguised, but you can pass a speech check to at least temporarily keep them from realizing you're not one of them. You can move freely around the bandits. You'll still have to haul ass from barrel to barrel if you want to sabotage their food and arrows, they figure it out at that point and attack.

Thanks, I've been reading stuff about wearing Cuman armor to get by, but I haven't seen any Cuman guards to take stuff from (and my only attempt to kill a guard stealthily led to me fighting half a dozen guards at once. Didn't last long there) Didn't know there was a chest around. I'll keep an eye out for it. Glad I have a couple of Bane potions on me...

Best part about it is piecing the terrain and defences for a battle plan together. For that you don't have to be among the camp people. To get real close and personal use that cuman gear. If you struggle with sabotage - I am confident it won't really affect your upcoming battle very much.

Edit: at the very least, I wanna burn some arrows. Apparently, the latest patch has the AI making head-shots with bow much more common.

Anyway - the battle is mostly scripted but I found it quite atmospheric. It's not an awesome castle siege with banners and trebuchets but in the end it could have been just like that for a small skirmish. I do say small, but these Lords of the region don't exactly field armies and their men seem pretty valuable to lose. If you move you are a pain for archers. Arrows aren't hitscan and you should be good. Also: trees block LoS and arrows. And the arrow you stick into an archers head is an arrow less coming your way. Just don't forget helmet. Remember: Safety first.

For Nest of Vipers sabotage, there are chests in the camp with the poison required to poison pots.

Hm, I may have burned a couple of arrows in my current playthrough. I heard someone eradicated the Pribislawice camp so I headed there and just did some cooking and woodburning in complete peace and serene daylight. In the battle I did not notice many arrows flying, true. And I noticed guys jumping from the battlements into melee - a thing I did not see the first time, so you may be right there.

Why did humanity ever bother with walls when you could just get some knee high bushes to form a literally impassable barrier? Humans decked out in plate armor, galloping horses - everything gets stopped as if hitting a sky high brick wall!
And Henry is selectively insanely out of shape when it seems like to require such a huge effort for him to climb a platform that's like 30 cm off the ground, or a very slightly raised riverbank.
It must be a bug since he still hasn't gotten dressed for the follow-up quest, but I did get a chuckle out of Hans Capon telling me to put on some fancy clothes for a meeting with his uncle, and he then shows up himself only wearing his underwear.

Lul, check the bathhouse chest, it should hold his stuff. Unless you nicked them that night? I saw him wander in underpants to the place to get his clothes back after that night. He literally went to the chest and came back to Rattay dressed.

I know you can vault over stuff like low fences and whatnot, but there's some stuff that Henry takes like 5 seconds to slowly climb even though it should be the equivalent of walking up a step or two on stairs. Like the pillory platform in Rattay if you try to hop up it. If you're still around the Cuman/Bandit camp in the Nest of Vipers quest, try going into little stream that flows around the camp, it's almost impossible for Henry to climb up from there outside of very specific spots. It does this slooooow animation of Henry climbing up this tiny ridge, but then you just fall back down.

Any infiltration tips for the Nest of Vipers quest? Personally I just let the bandit dude know where that other dude was and went with him to kill that dude and he was all like "dude lets be besties" and gave me the location of the camp and told me to tell the dude guarding the camp his name, gets you in and allows you to walk around the camp but don't stick around too long as some other dude comes out and tells you that the dude who said you could join is an idiot and now they are going to kill you and all the dudes try to wreck your shit, however if you have full plate armour and a decent weapon you can slaughter all the dudes pretty easily and get the hell out of there, not like any of it matters as I poisoned all their food and burnt all their arrows and it still said I failed the quest! Dude!

I did the robber baron and couldn't pass the speech to successfully parley. The robber baron himself didn't do much, he was kind of stuck while his men were getting killed all around him. I left him alone and looted. While I was doing that, one of the soldiers came and stuck him one in the back. He died.

*sigh* doesn't seem to matter how sneaky I am, as soon as I do ANYTHING to sabotage the camp, they come out of the woodwork for me! The recon is basically a three strikes and you're out. Don't try too hard to poison or burn everything. The first time you're questioned by a Cuman, the clock is ticking. If you got the disguise from the chest, get out of the area fast and quickly recon the rest of the camp. If you see a chance to poison or burn, do it fast and move far away, don't hang around the same area. If you successfully poison, a Cuman is likely to go down in the next few minutes, raising the level of awareness so getting stopped and questioned is not a very good idea. I died when I infiltrated Runt's side but I figure that's because I was past the three strikes so they saw through the disguise. I haven't tried going to Runt's side of the camp after one strike. There's a cutscene btw if you go there.

*sigh* doesn't seem to matter how sneaky I am, as soon as I do ANYTHING to sabotage the camp, they come out of the woodwork for me! The way I did it was to sneak around the perimeter and as far into the camp as I could without the disguise first, this already updated my quest enough to where I could go back to Radzig. Then I went to get the disguise from the building in the north and kept going through the Cuman area over to the bandit side. Watched the cutscene, and starting from the one furthest away in the corner, I went about tossing poison into the pots and burning their arrows. Just sprinting from one to the next was enough since Henry fortunately doesn't stop to do any animation as you sabotage the stuff so you can keep in constant motion, keeping you from being hit. Then over to the Cuman camp to do the same, going to each of the arrow barrels and cooking pots in the order of nearest to farthest (though I did skip their cooking pots due to lack of poison) and then out through the same northern entrance I came in. Then I just kept running away and whistling for my horse until I was able to mount it without being hit by an arrow and immediately bucked off. That last part of running away through the woods was the messiest, since it was pitch black and the forest is rather dense there. I had no idea what I was doing for a lot of it, just knew I needed to keep moving. Eventually I emerged a bit to the east of Skalitz with my pursuers having given up, and could fast travel safely back to Radzig. In the battle that follows a bit later, it's Complete bullshit that you don't even get to loot the boss.

I was approached by a Cuman soldier almost immediately after the cutscene. Yes, a Cuman wandered into the bandit side of the camp JUST TO CHECK OUT THE NEW GUY!!! I managed to find one pot that I could poison without anyone noticing. But afterwards I just ran from barrel to barrel setting fires before fleeing out the hole in the back of the stockade (In like a shadow. Out like a Horseman of the Apocalypse!). Even then one soldier chased me literally to the end of the map and I had to fight him.

You can visit the place later. Impenetrable steel bushes can be jumped on and a ladder on the battlement can be used when you get it right. This teleports you on the ladder and you can go up the church steeple.

I found out why I wasn't able to talk to Sir Hanush in the first PT for the quest Waldensians. I have to talk to Capon first, after taking that infamous bath with him. He'll say Sir Hanush wants to see both him and Henry. Once the interview is over, Henry can talk to Sir Hanush about the Waldensians quest.

Almost done with the game...
Review should be coming soon. Likely a 6.5 or 7 in the end. It really fell off a cliff for me in the second half, and the more I thought about things, the more the game has massive design flaws.
Still good...but there are better RPG's out there. The shtick of it being more realistic is what keeps this afloat more than the mechanics or narrative.
