I've been trying to upgrade the look of the Dalish in the Brecilian forest but seemed to have messed some things up. The facial tatts in particular seem to have been altered. Zathrian's wonderfully sinister tatts have been replaced by black smears around the eyes and mouth. For other elves, rather than identifiable tatts, their faces appear dirty. (Mithra, OTOH, now has no face tatts.)
Regarding clothes, I got Zathrian into an outfit that's less Circle-like, which is good. Somehow, however, I got Lanaya into an outfit that looks like Circle robes. Not what I intended....
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling DA Redesigned. I've also removed other Dalish-only mods I tried installing, but none of that works. Thoughts?

It sounds like a mod conflict: you may have to uninstall and restall the game as a reset if nothing else works.
Can you list me the Dalish mods that you used? Are you using any other texture mods that could affect faces or character models in general?

More Dalish Zathrian 4. Dalish Elves Beautified Everything installs in override, so theoretically only need to remove the extracted folder to restore things. Any good source, article, that describes the different types of files involved in applying mods? Understanding what causes conflicts and bugs?

I think that black smear is from a tattoo mod. I had that problem too once. I use the Dalish Elves Beautified mod too, but no other mod that changes the Dalish elves if I remember correctly. Maybe one of the first two mods interfere with the last two?

Any good source, article, that describes the different types of files involved in applying mods? Understanding what causes conflicts and bugs? deadlydwarf I was only able to give this a brief look at as I need to finish reading something due to a meeting tomorrow. This is what I've found so far and I hope it may be of use. zlahana, the author of Dalish Elves Beautified mod, wrote this in the comment section that I found: I am not sure if the DA Redesigned mod also redesigned the Dalish elves, but if it has then you can make my mod work if you do the following:
Go to your override folder and look for the DA redesigned folder. It will have .mor files named after the characters (example: ef_ntb100_lanaya.mor)
Remove these files, and then install my file. It should work fine. The list of files that have to be removed from the DA Redesigned folder (before you install mine) if you want all my morphs to work are as below:
ef_bed200_keeper.mor ef_bed200_maren.mor ef_bed200_merril.mor ef_ntb100_elora.mor ef_ntb100_gheyna.mor ef_ntb100_lanaya.mor ef_ntb100_mithra.mor em_bed100_tamlen.mor em_ntb100_athras.mor em_ntb100_sarel.mor am_ntb100_varathorn.mor em_ntb100_zathrian.mor em_ntb100_cammen.mor
I don't think the More Dalish Zathrian mod is involved as it seems it only changes clothes and not the head morph.

I'm sadly finding that the dirty details for most of these mods are contained in the comment section. And the more popular the mod, the more pages of comments to wade through! Even though it won't help me for any other game, I'm going to have to study up on DAO modding so I can understand what causes conflicts and what doesn't.

Yes. Ideally, it would be cool to learn to make mods myself. I can think of some things I would try to change - and most likely find out that there's much that can't be changed period! For now, understanding file types and what causes conflicts would be a good start. Being able to properly install any mod would be better than the Russian Roulette I'm playing now with mods. If you have some go to resources, please send some links my way!

Just curious, prior to coming back to the world of DAO, I did the MET twice. What's your take on Andromeda? Good follow-on to MET? Or disappointing? Or more a case of "it's a totally different world from MET, don't let MET define your expectations?"

Many, many thanks! Just curious, prior to coming back to the world of DAO, I did the MET twice. What's your take on Andromeda? Good follow-on to MET? Or disappointing? Or more a case of "it's a totally different world from MET, don't let MET define your expectations?" Personally, I liked it despite its flaws but it's very much a case of opinions may differ so I recommend checking out the free trial version of the game to decide for yourself.
