I've seen this argument being brought up everywhere, I really don't get it. Comments like " congratulations Andromeda failed because of the whining" " underserved hate" etc etc... Stop making excuses and defending a corporation. You know who you can actually blame? Bioware and EA. Sole responsibility for the failures are completely on them, fans are a trickle effect. They had many many reasons to hate on the game, frankly majority of it was warranted and some was exaggerated. But guess what? There was a lot of truth to it. I don't want to list the problems the game had, if you're on these boards you already know. Stop pointing fingers at fans who are unhappy to justify a reason that this game flopped. This game didn't do itself any favors on release, reactions are expected. I blame Bioware for their ineptitude, it truly breaks my heart. But enough with the excuses with blaming the gaming community. The community is reactive to what's trending, do something good and the reaction is good and vice versa. Bioware has yet to respond with anything of value, their patches have been half assed, their in game additions have been lackluster, so this fire has been burning sometime...Bioware hasn't addressed it. Then they flat out quit on the game.

We really don't know how much influence they had with the game. We can also assume, they could've postponed releasing the game at its current state. |

For releasing a very clearly unfinished/unready product for the sake of fiscal quarter earnings. I guess it's mostly BioWare's fault for mismanaging with a hard deadline in place, but if the corp is ~REQUIRED~ to release an unfinished product to consumers who paid for it for the sake of investors or w/e the fuck, something is wrong. With the company or the "system" or both... Game should have been ready but unfortunately it wasn't -- and an unready product should not be "force released," especially if you also want to have a pre-ordering system. If this is the reality of your business practice, then don't have pre-orders...but of course they would never do that, because they make too much money on those. |

Blame Bioware for not giving two shits and then writing that insulting message to the fans about listening to criticism and fixing the game. Everything Bioware did was half assed...and the cherry on top...oh btw, we'd like that micro transactions...we're still updating multiplayer. Love Bioware. |

In the core it was the social media (in particular YouTube), that cherry-picked some bad animation, an posted them as much as possible. They probably not even hated the game, but just wanted to milk some money out of a "funny" Trent. At the end everybody that thought he/she was some "pewdiepie" jumped in on the "make as ridiculous as possible" movie (most times with the same scene over and over again in the same "movie"). People that where saying "well - the game is not that bad" where attacked (most times by people that not even played the game, but only have seen the "funny" movies), and ridiculed.
So - no. I do not think the "fans" alone killed the game.

The fanbase is definitely a factor in the fall of Bioware, because the fanbase simply put, won't allow Bioware to take risks without backlash.
Both DAI and MEA's plots are lifeless shells that check all the conservative storytelling boxes after the backlash of the risk taking DA2 and ME3. You do not tell the story the fans want, they whine and pout and claim its poorly written. The characters have to do this, I want this character as a love interest, I want the ending I want, etc. Your character cannot show weakness, because that's not a choice...and if they do.....RAGE.
So, Bioware has fallen behind game companies that take risks.
The only Bioware team taking risks is Bioware Austin, and really the next SWTOR chapter is going to piss a lot of fans off.

I think many fans were constructives when they pointed the flaws of the game, especially glitches and bugs. I wrote this plenty of time, those things ruined my experience. It's not normal to sell an unfinished product and to make the custumer pay a full price for it.
The game should have been delayed.
Some other critics (CC, animations etc...) are also true. I was never able to create my Ryder the way I wanted her to be.
I'm not happy when I read that the fandom is guilty for MEA's failure. Yes, some people were too hard on the game, but the majority of the players who wrote critics had real issues with it (and tried to let BW knows, simply to help and have patches fixing them !).
Also, excluding the internet/BSN/fandom influence, I assure you that IRL players I know, who don't give a shit about reviews/forums/memes/internet in general, were also disappointed for the exact same reasons we pointed here.
So you can blame the fans a little, maybe, but if BW had done the job correctly (it seems the developpement changed so many times, I do feel sorry for the devs at the very end of the line of production who had to rush the last months) and if EA have delayed MEA, it would have been a totally different welcome.

The plug for SP DLC was likely pulled way before the game's release. There's a book about the Quarian Ark, and we never had books set in BioWare's universes that told a story you were supposed to play through in DLC or the main game itself. Writing that book took time, and the decision to not have SP DLC was therefore made just as long ago as the decision to write and publish this book.
The fan reactions, as unwarranted as some were, are not to blame for this. The failure of MEA as a project, though not necessarily as a game, is the most likely culprit.
