I wanted to know if there is a hard cap to critical damage bonus? The wiki states an hard cap of 190% but is it true? Cause if it is then for an assassin rogue reaching 190% is doable even without a might offense tonic. If the cap is at 190% then i would like to know so i can regear.

I believe that cap only applies to Critical Chance. And I thought it was 80%? Maybe they multiplied out 80% times Critical Damage max (which is I'm not sure, but it's over 200%). 190% / 80% = 238% would be the expected max for Critical Damage, if that's how they calculated 190%.

Hmm, this is a problem as it will be better for my rogue to get out of the 2 critical damage rings and instead go for attack?deathblow ring or flanking one instead. Hmm regarding crit chance i thought 100% was possible, varric certainly can reach it, but if its capped at 80 then need to regear him as well.

Caps are only applied during combat. As are some buffs.

Sigh, that's what I get for going by memory. I checked the GUIDE, the 80% cap is for DEFENSE (damage reduction), not for critical chance. So nevermind. I don't know if there is a cap on criticals and if so, what it is.
But why worry about it? 60% crit chance and 200% crit damage is plenty for even Nightmare solo battles.

True, but problem is optimising. If there is a cap on critical damage then a might offense potion is wasted, but according to my tests that does not seem to be the case. As a might offense tonic still gave me quite a hefty boost to damage, so i am not sure what to make of it.
Finally since my current character is a assassin which means that i have guaranteed critical hits. This makes critical damage a more worthwhile stat than attack as its either 20% more attack or 40% more critical damage.
EDIT: hmm looks like there is a cap, the reason might offense tonic doing well was the base damage it adds. A bonus of 58 points to weapons is a lot. But yes cap seems to be in the range of 190-200% beyond that critical damage is kinda wasted. This explains why under the effects of a offense tonic my reaver was outputting comparable damage to my assassin.
