Hidy ho all, I just read this new story on my local site. And its...quite terrifying. longisland.news12.com/story/36683883/not-at-home-amazon-wants-to-come-in-and-drop-off-packagesThe short of it is, you let an amazon delivery person, into your home, to drop off a package, while your not there. You buy an amazon lock, and amazon camera, the delivery person is then let past your lock, and into your home. How is this anything but scary? And how do you feel about the idea?

Not happening. We do not even participate in the Internet of Things, so allowing 3rd parties into our house when we are not there will not happen.

What could go wrong with trusting a stranger to drop off your package, not to steal your stuff when you are not home, and to remember to lock your door? Too many variables that could go wrong.

They come to my doorstep quite often. But they will never be permitted within it without my express permission. So, yeah. Not happening.

Hah, as if. Even worse when considering that they'd probably get those filthy bums from Lasership to do the dropoff. They'd probably use the bathroom on top of pilfering a few things.

If someone lives in a shady enough area that they don't trust delivered goods to be left outside their homes, how are you going to expect them to shell out $250 for new camera and lock for their package delivery guy?
So essentially, the market for this service seems to be entirely restricted to "rich people who live in bad neighborhoods but are also incredibly trusting of strangers and corporations."

It's another frightening example of people allowing the tech giants to rule their every moment. Gradual steps towards corporate Big Brother. It's sickening.
If this device was on some little alcove that they put the package in and I open it when I get home that wouldn't be as bad, as they wouldn't be in your house merely dropping it off in a safe. It's still bloody creepy and deeply worrying on a moral level.

An Amazon??? Yes She would be very welcome! Our cousins handled them pretty well! The two camps were then joined in one, the Scythians living with the Amazons as their wives; and the men were unable to learn the tongue of the women, but the women soon caught up the tongue of the men. When they could thus understand one another, the Scyths addressed the Amazons in these words - "We have parents, and properties, let us therefore give up this mode of life, and return to our nation, and live with them. You shall be our wives there no less than here, and we promise you to have no others." But the Amazons said - "We could not live with your women - our customs are quite different from theirs. To draw the bow, to hurl the javelin, to bestride the horse, these are our arts of womanly employments we know nothing. Your women, on the contrary, do none of these things; but stay at home in their waggons, engaged in womanish tasks, and never go out to hunt, or to do anything. We should never agree together. But if you truly wish to keep us as your wives, and would conduct yourselves with strict justice towards us, go you home to your parents, bid them give you your inheritance, and then come back to us, and let us and you live together by ourselves."
The youths approved of the advice, and followed it. They went and got the portion of goods which fell to them, returned with it, and rejoined their wives, who then addressed them in these words following:- "We are ashamed, and afraid to live in the country where we now are. Not only have we stolen you from your fathers, but we have done great damage to Scythia by our ravages. As you like us for wives, grant the request we make of you. Let us leave this country together, and go and dwell beyond the Tanais." Again the youths complied.
Crossing the Tanais they journeyed eastward a distance of three days' march from that stream, and again northward a distance of three days' march from the Palus Maeotis. Here they came to the country where they now live, and took up their abode in it. The women of the Sauromatae have continued from that day to the present to observe their ancient customs, frequently hunting on horseback with their husbands, sometimes even unaccompanied; in war taking the field; and wearing the very same dress as the men. Herodotus, Histories, Book 4 - MELPOMENE

The thing about my amzaon orders is that if it happens to come by Canada post if iam not there when they come they take the package away and i have to get it fro the local post office.
If it is by courier they often just toss the nice looking AMAZON package on my front porch in full view of anyone who wants to look at it.
Not sure what the solution is.

Have it dropped off at your local fed-ex/UPS office? I, also, know that fed-ex lets you re-schedule your deliveries to when your home.

Did you read the article in full? They say they're targeting the younger generation, because they are less concerned with privacy then the older generation is. That's...disgusting to me. I'm aware of what they stated, but just because a young person wouldn't mind someone going into their home to deliver a package, doesn't mean that they would pay a non-insignificant amount of money to make that happen. Millennials might have a lower expectation of privacy compared to older generations, but we're also more selective with our disposable income (thus the claims that we're 'killing' several old industries).
That said, I don't find the idea particularly offensive. If there are people who are willing to drop quarter grand for a mild convenience and don't mind the stranger danger, let them have at it.

I don't get why they don't create some kind of Amazon deposit box (also, UPS, FedEx, etc.) that they'll install at your digs (after you've paid them) and where they deposit all parcels/purchases.
Sort of like recyclables. Why can't they just do that?
