img.izismile.com/img/img4/20111117/640/would_you_choose_bradley_cooper_the_sexiest_man_alive_640_54.jpgSo I was watching Blade Runner and I guess it must have been a testament to how riveting the plot was but for some reason I could not stop staring at Ryan Gosling's eye, it looked like one side of his face had melted with one eye sitting one centimeter lower than the other eye, I kept wondering is this a real human eye or is this some sort of CGI thing where Ryan Gosling's character was assembled in Mexico and there was some sort of mistake in the manufacturing process of this model replicant or something, I guess I also wondered if the wooden and stilted dialogue was due to everyone being a replicant and this was the closest approximation they had to human emotion and behavior. Also how long does it take to find a fucking wooden horse in a decommissioned furnace? Pretty sure the audience had already figured out he was going to find the wooden horse in the furnace as soon as they entered the area, everybody knew what was going to happen so why the director felt the reveal needed such a build up where it takes Ryan Gosling 45 minutes (probably hyperbole, did not time the scene but it felt like a fucking long time) to walk over to a deactivated furnace in a rundown factory to reach in and reveal a god damn wooden horse that everyone and their mother already knew he would find. I have no idea what the critics were thinking when they reviewed this movie, probably too busy sniffing their own farts to notice what a stinker this movie truly was, but 88% on rotten tomatoes? 81% audience score? Is there something I am missing? Visuals were pretty cool and there is an interesting world there, but everything else about the movie was garbage, did anyone actually enjoy this movie? If so what was so good about it?

Yeah, I noticed that about his left eye some while back. Figured the factory he came from was a bit lapse in the QC.
I haven't seen this movie yet, but I'm going to be honest: I didn't really care that much for the original. I love the way it looks and sounds, but as a movie itself, I wasn't really taken by it, and really don't expect any different for this one.

Yeah, I noticed that about his left eye some while back. Figured the factory he came from was a bit lapse in the QC. Actually would be good QC to throw in some mistakes like that. Perfectly symmetrical features always come across as uncanny valley. Why do you think Skynet intentionally gave the T-800 bad breath and body odour to better blend in? Making machines that look more human lulls us into a false sense of security. Of course, then giving machines the appearance of a jacked up bodybuilder with strong Austrian accents was perhaps an oversight, but hey, Skynet was a learning computer. It'd fix it in the T-1000.

Now the biggest question... does this mean Ryan Gosling and Shannen Doherty rolled off the same assembly line? (Although the biggest giveaway is the acting, definitely robotic at times)

I'm neutral to mildly adverse when it comes to Ryan Gosling, but it definitely doesn't have anything to do with a slight variation between his eyes. That's a kind of weird thing to be annoyed about.

You earth clan have been fooled by a mannequin. Ryan Gosling is barely even movie magic. I can find more range of emotion in Elcor Hamlet.

You earth clan have been fooled by a mannequin. Ryan Gosling is barely even movie magic. I can find more range of emotion in Elcor Hamlet. I have not seen any other movie Ryan Gosling has been in other than Blade Runner so I can't really judge his performance as a whole but I kind of assumed that his character was so emotionless and bland is because he was a replicant (not a spoiler, it was revealed 5 minutes into the movie), still it is an odd choice to base your lead character around as it makes it hard for people to identify and relate to the protagonist. But I don't think that excuses the rest of the movie as it is incredibly slow and honestly pretty poorly written and paced, things that the audience has already figured out long ago are going to happen have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much build up and take way too long for them to reveal while seemingly irrelevant information to the audience is reacted to by shock (or the faintest glimmer of emotion that registers as shock for a replicant) by the protagonist without informing the audience of why this information is somehow relevant only revealing what is so relevant about the information a scene or 2 after the information has been revealed. It is a shame because it seems like a lot of detail was put into the world that the movie was set in and it does present an interesting vision of the future with a lot of intriguing visuals, however when it comes to the characters and actual plot of the movie itself it just falls flat. I am genuinely curious as to why this movie was rated so highly by some people? Was it the backdrop and the visuals alone that made up for the shortcomings of the actual plot or is there something I am missing here?

Yeah, I get what you mean. I think the guy's weird looking especially for a so called Hollywood leading man. I will never watch "Bladerunner II" because I find his face off putting, you can't focus on the story because your brain's still trying to process his face.
It's really "immersion" breaking. And it's got nothing to do with uglyness or handsomeness, for instance I don't have this problem with Steve Buscemi, Gosling just has this weird facial thing that you just can't put your finger on but it really distracts/repels me. I've never met the guy and know very little about him but I look at him and I just don't like him, I know it's unfair and illogical but it's one of those wierd human instinctive "gut" human feelings, I also get this reaction with Gwyneth Paltrow. I find them both unwatchable on an instinctive level. To borrow an expression by Faramir from LOTR, "he has an ill favoured look".

Well I don't think it is quite that bad (though the movie is still bad for other reasons), I just find it odd as I did not think an eyesocket could vary that much in height.
