Kandros here with a Platinum Solo tale with one of our two resident Batarians. Flakkus was in a bad mood after returning from his battle on Firebase Zero. He requested some vacation time, and I quickly granted it, given that he successfully uploaded and retrieved valuable information from eezo mining facility. To my surprise, he chose Firebase Sandstorm as his getaway spot. "You do know that enemies are on the move there, Flakkus?" I informed him. "Firebase Sandstorm reminds me of my homeworld of Khar’shan," he snapped back at me. Those four eyes glared at me like Batarian Blade Armor ripping into soft flesh, and I decided against suggesting Eos instead.
As his Talon and Hurricane pistols were in repairs, he requested another sidearm. Our scientists and engineers have reverse-engineered Viridin’s Rozerad Siphon, and copies of the variant weapon have quickly become a favorite among our APEX Strike Team members. Flakkus brought out his Kishock Harpoon Gun and told me he was looking forward to bagging some animals on Sandstorm. "I’m hungry, and your Nexus grub is terrible." I wished him a happy time and sent him on his way.
As one might expect from any trip to this Firebase, Flakkus’ vacation was short-lived. Three garrison from the Kett, Outlaw, and Remnant factions soon descended on Sandstorm shortly after he arrived. Comms traffic indicated they were meeting there to plot their next moves against the Andromeda Initiative. I alerted Flakkus, who was getting some sun on the roof of Sandstorm and told him of incoming enemies. "Vacation’s over. Time to go hunting!" he barked at me.
What ensued over the next hour was nothing short of epic. Flakkus warded off all enemies and retrieved valuable plans from each of the factions. Ascendants, Fiends, and Behemoths were harpooned to death and there were plenty of flak cannon shells littering the ground, roof, and rooms throughout the Firebase when the shuttle came to pick Flakkus up. We found him at the LZ enjoying a hot meal of Kett stew as the sun set over Sandstorm. Disgusting, yes, but I was not one to criticize Flakkus’ dinner choice following this glorious victory.

With a Sniper Rifle Amp IV and a Targeting VI III booster, I could one shot kill Destined, Sharpshooters, Anointed, Saboteurs, Pariahs, Agents, and Anarchists with the Kishock Harpoon Gun. I could even take big chunks of armor off of Behemoths. Console aiming is really hard in MEA compared with ME3, I’ve found, so forgive Flakkus for leaving dozens of harpoons stuck on the walls and floors on Firebase Sandstorm. The Sandstorm Concussive, which I used to great effect on my Platinum solo run with the Human Juggernaut (Go For the Eyes modifiers) hits hard, but you have to do multiple shots. The Scrapper can’t just stand out of cover like the Juggernaut, so I had to use Flak Cannon to stun enemies so I could line up for a headshot.
Despite my attempts to harpoon everything, the Rozerad Siphon was my primary weapon during the match. Lots of ammo and of course the siphoning ability kept my health up whenever I was being pummeled by the Anointed’s Soned or the Observer’s red laser beam.
When I could, I used Snap Freeze to debuff armored targets. The problem was that I was running around so much due to concentrated enemy fire that I could really capitalize on it. So, I ended up using Flak Cannon to stun and give me time to run away from the enemies.
I was lucky with the objectives on this mission. Previous attempts had Hack or Upload on Wave 2. Triple retrieval was music to my ears, since I find that objective to be the easiest of the five. Earlier, I had a Wave 6 failure when I was picked up by the Ascendant while I was disabling the second device.
Platinum solo strategy on Sandstorm:
I’ve developed a pretty good strategy for kiting enemies around the map so they are all funneling in one direction, which should be familiar with those who routinely play on Sandstorm. The rooftop sniper’s nest and atop building S4 in the back of the map. When the situation got too hot, I went to the other location.
I’ve been finding the Multicapacitor to be the best equipment to use for all my Platinum solos. It really helps to bring back your shields while you’re running away from the enemies. 3.5 seconds out of cover and 1.84 seconds while in cover. Hold the Line kept me alive when I was being pummeled by Anointed and Observers.
I have been attempting numerous solos with various characters over the past week, and I’m now convinced that every character can solo Platinum on at least Firebase Sandstorm. I’ve gotten to Wave 5 with the Asari Sentinel, Human Kineticist, Salarian Operator, and Angara Exemplar, but I was always chased around to death by the blasted Behemoth and Blaze Hydras. I hadn’t equipped the Kishock until today (tried it earlier with the Operator), and I think it’s the weapon to use on solos. I can’t wait until I get my Kishock Siphon (or Concussive).
I don’t know how many more of these Platinum solos I have in me, but I think we’ll be seeing a lot more (and faster) videos from those in the community who are still playing.
