I made use of the murder knife a few times. Usually the 'Tramp of Darktown' get's the murder knife and Kelder, because it's the only way to stop him from murdering more kids. And Danyla out of mercy - she begs you to end her life and I feel bad, leaving here there in her misery. And since she will attack you, if you don't do it and be killed anyway, tehre is no way trying to convince her to wait a while, why you try to end the curse. OH and the Tevinter mage, that is enslaving the elves in DAO - I don't remember, if you actually murder knife him, but I kill him every time. So those are my murder knife victims. Two out of spite, one out of mercy and the last, because there is no other way to stop him from killing,

I don't use the murder knife if there seems there seems a genuine alternative. Even with the guy enslaving the alienage elves I was willing to let him walk away with his life and nothing else but the guy was greedy so he died. I managed to resist the allure of the "Tramp of Darktown", so she went to jail instead, which considering that was in a Templar prison was actually a lot worse than dying looking back on it. I execute Kelder because he admitted he couldn't control himself and clearly sending him back to jail under his father was not going to keep the children safe. First run of DA2 (with no Sebastian DLC) I spared Anders so he could help fix the mess he had created and help me save the mages he had endangered. Subsequent runs with Sebastian, I tended to execute Anders and then let Sebastian take his place helping to save the mages. In DAI I am a very merciful judge. I would gladly kill Erimond but he wanted to be a martyr, so I threw him in prison instead. I didn't like the outcome with Florianne if you resolve matters peacefully at the palace. I felt the ruler of Orlais should have dispensed justice on her not me. Besides if I wanted Gaspard as Briala's puppet then Celene had to die, closely followed by Florianne.
I don't enjoy killing but most of the time the choices, prior to DAI, seemed to lead to that conclusion because the alternative would seem to be letting evil run free or letting someone suffer who wanted to die. I don't hold to a hard and fast rule on it. Each situation is judged on its own merits.

And there's ALWAYS a reason.

With the Warden rarely, with Hawke all the time. Somehow in DAO your opponents tend to be saner and more reasonable. In Inq I didn't really like the way justice was dispensed in many cases when I chose to let the baddies live, will probably executed them next game.

I don't think I've stabbed anyone in Origins, apart from doing it out of curiosity then reloading. In DA2 I've stabbed Wesley, Kelder, Idunna and Anders. In Inquisition I never executed anyone.

I rarely kill anyone unless I'm forced to do so by the game.
I kill the rapist in DA2 always...I do remember that much.

This clearly is my thread.
-with the Warden I murdenknifed only the people which I considered to be a world threat and that couldn't have been fought in gameplay.I've only used the knife vs two people with the Warden, one was the elf turned werewolf, which wanted to be killed (or else she will attack) and the other was Morrigan in WH,who was speaking like a fanatic with her bubbling about how she wanted to allow the change of the world, after that I made her fail in her little plan to save the dinosaur from DAO.
With Hawke I knifed Anders because I considered him a threat.
With the Inquisitor I allowed the knife on Celine, because I wanted another ruler.
Total murder knife 4 3 death and one spared by plot armor.

Before I would have said I'm not the stabby stab type, but now that I try and count them all and it requires more than one hand, I realize I'm not the tree-hugging pacifist I thought I was.

I admit that I'm sadist. I like breaking certain characters rather than kill them. With Anders, I go the rival route and side with templars and make Anders kill the mages. With Erimond, if I'm playing mage, I tranquilize him and watch his desperation. Otherwise, I send him to the jails so he can receive the news about Corypheus. I can't talk with him, but I can imagine.

Murder knife? I like it. Knifed everyone that can be knifed in Origins and Awakenings. My favorite murder knife is the throwing murder knife at Lord Harimann. The sound he makes as the knife plunges into his forehead and then hearing his body hit the ground with a thud. excellent. Also the throwing murder knife at the slaver when dealing with Feynriel. Hawke would do well in the circus throwing knives. I also stab the guy who thought it was a good idea to merge with a spirit.

I chose the "excessive" option, but was a bit turned off by the flippant tone of the poll choices.
I very rarely use the murder knife. I can't think of when I use it in DAO... I'm not sure I do. In DA2, the only times I use it are with the guy who preys on elven children, and on Anders, and I have roleplay reasons for both of those. I don't go around knifing people just because I dislike the character. If there is a way to avoid it, I'll take it.

Lord Harriman? Why? There are some reasons to do it, or just for fun, because of Hawke able to do it? One of the reasons is that Hawke took the contract from Meeran. Hawke spent a year with the group and one of them hasn't come back so he is rescuing him and fulfilling the contract. After a year doing that kind of job, it doesn't bother Hawke. Yes, I got it, but still: Hawke can protect this buddy, and still spare Harriman's life. Anyway, kill him is a job, of course, but I don't understand why so satisfying/fun.
