I was wondering that too! It's less than a hundred pages, so maybe it's a bit of both.

Actually, if it's illustrated then I wonder if it's going to be like the "movie" in the Angel comics or the Ember Island play in Avatar, where our homies in Kirkwall appear as "fictional" characters and we basically get to see them dressed up. MY BODY IS READY.

No that's the joke behind Swords and Shields. HiH is a crime novel. The title is just Varric being punny cus it is both a reference to "hardboiled" crime novels and *also* sounds porny, which I am sure he thinks is hilarious.

It's a pretty bare-bones "novel" in-game. I'm assuming for now, at least, that it's more than just the collection of 12-ish 2-paragraph "chapters" from that.

I am...moderately interested in giving it a look when it comes out, I admit. Crime thrillers are kinda my jam, and the fact that it's "fiction in fiction" might make it easier for me to read (generally, I dislike novels based on things I enjoyed in other mediums...no matter how well written they always feel like cheesy fanfics). I'm also gonna reserve judgment a bit but I do admit that of all the various DA spinoffs, this is the one that might actually draw me in.

Of course, then again, given how "Bianca" turned out when she was transformed from myth to actual experience, Varric's "flavor" doesn't have a good track record...
