Reboot it, Remake it, Remix it. From a time constraint standpoint getting your hands on a uni/multi-verse that's already got a setting/theology/culture/fan following is sure handy, but... I appreciate a new idea. I am a long time sufferer of Worldbuilder's Disease, I love it. For my part I have so many ideas for worlds rattling around in my head I can't even conceive of writing say, fanfic or something. I've never really needed/wanted a setting that wasn't my own creation. But I am pretty biased towards that to be fair. That being prefaced, what's the best new I.P. in any medium you've seen in recent years? Free form, anything goes. (Well maybe not parody-pr0n...) *** My vote ↓ Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive. Spoilered just in case you haven't read it. There are pictures that will possibly amount to mild spoilers for some smart people. Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series and arguably his Cosmere in general. Specifically though, the world Roshar it is set on. Why? Well beyond his amazing writing talents Sanderson managed to capture a setting I hadn't really seen before in a good fantasy series. He took "a day at the beach" and ran with it. Ran pretty far actually; he stretches a coastline habitat over the span of a few countries thanks to some super-storms that ravage the land periodically. Here are some in-book drawings of some of the flora/fauna. *** Anyways, I confess my reasoning for this Topic is purely self-interest as I am hoping to get some good ideas to watch/read/etc that isn't regurgitated. (Albeit there are times I like to go back to something familiar and see it in a new light.)

A friend (more like frenemy lol) that worked in Edmonton in ME2 had a discussion with me and my roommates many years ago (around the ME2 release) about how the original concept for ME1 wasn't just half a dozen Council/near-council races, but nearer to 50. The universe was a much fuller, fleshed out setting. The citadel was supposed to be bustling with life like it was a jam packed space station full of wildly different species. Pretty much due to directly to budget/pc constraints they had to cut much of that original concept though. Would've liked to have seen that content, I wonder if it ran away with the doctors. *Actually for that matter someone on these forums may very well know more about it.

Ugh, had to google it, kind of depressing. By what time stamp? ME/DA and everybody here loves it, Witcher, are decade plus old. And a lot of new IP's are as it is derivative of others: Horizon, Anthem. Upcoming...SC and Cyberpunk, sort of games you grew up dreaming of playing.
In last year or two, definitely:

What classifies as recent? Well no matter I will make it a decade -since someone else already did too. So I will say three book series by British author: Philip Reeve: (2015+) Railhead Series: (2006-2008) Larklight trilogy: Finally going a bit beyond a decade here but I read them again and again: (2001-2006) Mortal Engines Quartet: Rather glad the people behind Lord of the Rings Trilogy are making this Quartet into a movie(s) -instead of J.J. Abrahms and his lens flare mania. I don't know if this is cyberpunk but I will take it nonetheless.

(I hope he can keep the quality up, because I'm not always as impressed by everything Sanderson writes.)

(I hope he can keep the quality up, because I'm not always as impressed by everything Sanderson writes.) Stormlight is definitely an order of magnitude above some of his other writings. It's been interesting seeing him evolve. I don't touch his young adult stuff. Keep myself current with Mistborn/Stormlight and some of the one-offs though.

I like you. Also might want to define new IP too because when you get down to it the MCU probably is a new IP even though it is based off comic books, etc. Though to answer your question probably ASOIF/ Game of Thrones series. Dragon Age, Mass Effect and for something a bit more out there the Asati Shards series is quite nice (they are books for anyone who is curious)

After thinking about it for awhile, I think maybe the impact of Stormlight Archive is more due to the story, than the IP. So, strictly on best IP, I'd say Banks' Culture, now, particularly since we don't define "recent years".

I really liked Expanse verse, though not the later books.
From the videogaming worlds, the Technomancer verse was the most attractive to me.

I really like "A Class of Their Own" series by Jen Turano, but that probably isn't the taste for most of the people here. I'll second the 'The Expanse'. It's a solid book series as well as a decent tv series.

I really enjoyed the First Law Trilogy, however it didn't seem complete, despite that it still was great. But the best novel I've read this year was Shogun by pure miles.

I don't know that I'd call it "new", but since we don't have a time frame outlined here... Terry Pratchett's Discworld! A comic fantasy series where Pratchett addresses many common fantasy tropes. Oh and the world is flat and on top of four elephants, who stand on a gigantic turtle as it moves through outer space.

You can pick up his other stand-alone novels, they are all in the same setting and the same time-line. I loved them all except for Heroes.
