If you like Tech Combos, this Platinum Solo with the Angara Exemplar is for you. Fortunately, I did not have to wrestle much with RNG-Objectives. I ended two matches on Wave 1 when I got downed (I prefer to go into Wave 2 with all my consumables). The third attempt had a Wave 2 Upload, so it was easy to end the mission and start again. This video is from my fourth attempt and was relatively stress free. Objectives: Retrieval / Devices / Retrieval Gameplay notes and build: goo.gl/jbSqeu- Overload: 4B 5B 6B
- Barricade: 1 point
- Energy Drain: 4B 5A 6B
- Bioelectric Focus: 4B 5B 6B
- Bioelectric Defense: 4A 5B 6A
- Hurricane Siphon I
- Hurricane Concussive II
- Pistol Rail Amp III
- Disruptor Ammo III
- Expert Package
For this match, I left the Rozerad and its variants on the Tempest and equipped the Exemplar with dual Hurricanes. They acquitted themselves well, although I still prefer the Rozerad for its clip size and accuracy over the Hurricane. What sets the Angara Exemplar apart from other characters is his ability to set off tech combo after tech combo. With Bioelectric Focus 6B Detonation Feedback active, Overload and Energy Drain’s cooldowns became 4.3 and 4.2 seconds respectively. This synergized well with the fact that you can’t do another combo (on the same enemy) for 4 seconds. When Detonation Feedback was not active, their cooldowns were still a respectable 5.9 and 5.2 seconds each. Do note that I equipped the Expert Package and have my Power Recharge Bonus Stat at 10 for an extra 25% bonus. I left Barricade at just one point since I was moving around so much. In hindsight, I could have used it more often during the match. Placing one between between me and the enemy behind Building 37, for instance, could have resulted in an extra round of Tech Combos since the enemies would have spent a few seconds navigating around the barricade. For survivability, the Exemplar had four things going for him. Bioelectric Defense 4A Evasion gave him a 15% movement speed bonus. It also provided 65 Damage Resistance when evading. This stacked with 6A Bioelectric Ward for 140 DR. I did have to be mindful of Bioelectric Ward’s 15 second cooldown and the fact that it lasted for just 5 seconds. Energy Drain was specced to restore my shields to 97.5% and provided an additional 40% shield restore over 5.2 seconds. It’s not as good as Shield Boost on the Salarian Operator, Angara Insurgent, or Human Guardian, but it came in handy in a few spots. Please enjoy!

I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I'm still waiting for you to do it with the Insurgent, I got all excited when I saw Angara. Then I saw all the zappy... and it was still awesome, but wasn't my favourite SpaceLion (Don't ask, weird names happen in this house).
One day, maybe, I'll solo Platinum too, but for now, I don't have the manifest or patience.

The gameplay will also be different from the others, since he will want to be indoors as much as possible to maximize Trip Mine damage with clumped up enemies. Thoughts on detonating or EMP trip mines? I was even thinking about putting just one point in Shield Boost in favor of maxing out the Assault Turret! How’s that for an unconventional build?

Thoughts on detonating or EMP trip mines? I was even thinking about putting just one point in Shield Boost in favor of maxing out the Assault Turret! How’s that for an unconventional build? Always go EMP Trip Mines, imho, the stun is AMAZING. Staggers any and all enemies, even on Platinum. Your unconventional build has merit, though I personally skip Turret (I don't solo though). Generally, any enemy short of Behemoth/Destroyer/Hydra I can clean up in a single EMP stun with my Shorty 1 (even on Platinum), so I suspect with better gear (Shorty Siphon perhaps?), this could definitely be workable. Only problem I see is Power Cell supply, there's so many uses for Trip Mines that there's never a bad time to use them, and so I tend to end up running out. As long as you keep a single charge spare, repositioning also shouldn't be TOO difficult (EMP Stun + Movement Speed + Evasion DR + Bioelectric Ward). The other thing that could cause complications is not having Duration (and Recharge Speed) on Shield Boost, to keep your Shields regenerating to give Siphon more time to work.

It’s worth mentioning that the Insurgent is not a character I’ve played a lot with; I only have accumulated 627,010 XP since getting it to Level 20. Compare that with the Avenger and Operator with 42 and 37 million XP respectively! I think I used EMP Trip Mines for the first time on my Insurgent Gold Solo. The stun was certainly useful on the Wave 2 Upload. Pota Pota also specced for EMP Trip Mines in his Insurgent Platinum Solo on Magma Kett (with the pre-buffed Sovoa). That said, this is the build that I’m now thinking of using goo.gl/M3rsXEWith Disruptor Ammo and a fast priming weapon, Detonating Trip Mines offers the possibility of multiple Tech Combo with a single mine explosion. And, with a Flamethrower Turret (instead of the Cryo Turret), I would have the capability for fire explosions to go along with the aggro dump every 10 seconds. Since I’ve done runs with both the Salarian Operator (Shield Boost, but no DR) and the Krogan Engineer (Assault Turret with Rage for the occasional DR), I might be able to get away with just three points in Bioelectric Defense.

Will watch that linked vid in a few mins, I could see your build working well. Personally, I'd go with this build for a Solo Insurgent, but honestly, he's a solid all-round character, I don't see many "wrong" specs with him. He's also in my top-5 favourites. And was the first character I really liked (Next was the Juggernaut).

I think I've gotten four or five consecutive Wave 6 Hacks or Uploads with the Insurgent. My first run to Wave 6 actually got Devices, but all the enemies stormed the LZ where the first device was, and I got stuck next to the left ramp/staircase (no Evasion in that build). Currently running the EMP Trip Mine build with 4 points in Assault Turret and Bioelectric Defense.

I've also gotten Boss several times. It's actually quite difficult, even with Trip Mines. Might spec into Assault Turret for Cryo to get an armor boost should that objective come up again (and again). Last night, I was able to pull off a Wave 2 Hack with only one consumable (each) used. That would have been a great run had I gotten easy objectives for 4 and 6, but I got a Wave 4 Hack and I couldn't kill or kite the Fiend away fast enough.

It saddens me that I'm making you waste all these consumables I'm pretty sure my link had Cryo Turret (with Omni-link) for just that sort of thing. I totally see how Behemoths could be a problem without it. What sort of loadout are you use? Rozeys? Shotguns? Armour will never be as "easy" for the character as it is for some, but I think that weakness is what balances him (and I'd rather be balanced than OP).

First, I tried the Shorty and Scattershot Concussive, but that put me over the weight limit unless I went with Bioelectric Focus 6B or Bioelectric Defense 5A. Tried the Shorty and Piranha (same with weight). Dual Rozerads. Rozerad and Ushior/Scorpion. Currently using a Rozerad Siphon and the Naladen Siphon. That keeps me at 100% at the moment. I don't mind going a little over, but I do start to feel it when it's -11% or -16%. As long as I don't get Boss or a Wave 6 Hack/Upload, the weapons I choose (from my limited selection) don't make too much of a difference. I'm happy to whittle away the Behemoth as I do my circuits around the map. It's the pressure of getting rid of it in 1 minute and 40 seconds that stresses me out!

Did you try Shorty (or Scattershot) + Rozerade? that should be pretty close to the base weight capacity of the Insurgent, and what I use on a lot of characters. Not sure what the Ushior is like, since I don't have it myself, although I assume it's pretty decent at range? If so, maybe Shorty + Ushior? Personally, I find EMP -> Shorty to the Face one of the better ways of dealing with a Behemoth target. Sadly, they're sturdy enough to take a few rounds of it if you don't have help (such as in a solo). It might also be worth considering a different faction, not sure if it is documented or not, but I'm pretty sure EMP does extra damage to Synthetics, seen them chew up Blaze Hydras and Progenitors like crazy. I have the extra weight on mine from somewhere, so I have a Shorty + Valiant for -0% weight, so it's all just theory to me.

I’ll give the Scattershot+Rozerad a try in my next attempt.
Sticking with Kett since it’s forming the baseline of my Platinum solos. When I’m done with doing them, I’ll probably do one of against Remnant and Outlaws. I detest the Adhis and Observers, and they are everywhere on those two Platinum factions. l

It saddens me that I'm making you waste all these consumables It's okay. I'm really low on First Aid Kits, but a Jumbo Supply Pack after every run gets me back up to at least 5. As long as I don't get to Wave 6, all of my boosters will remain in my inventory if the mission fails. This is one reason why I've been able to try so many times to get the right objectives (unlike in ME3). That said, I am low on Level IV boosters and some Level III boosters (i.e. Disruptor ammo). I've got two more Power Capacity IVs left, so I'm hoping to get Wave 6 Devices or Retrieval once in my next two runs.
