Being a manager sucks. Don't do it.
That's all I have to add.

It’s been ages since I went to school but I remember how much I used to dislike those group projects and assignments, I always liked working better by myself or only with a single or two trusted friends only, that way it was much more fun but in the end it depended on whom I was paired with in the groups, if I could choose the other people or not.

group projects are important for many reasons but the primary one is exploration of self through joint effort, being a bossy twat is simple girls particularly excel at it as do bullies, however group work on shared goals requires more than just bossing each other about, it requires that you learn your individual strengths and weaknesses whilst learning to identify such things in others to achieve the best overall result
now back when i went to school, we had "streamed learning groups" based on achievements you were put into class groups and so everyone in the class tended to be on the same page academically speaking, this alleviated some of the problems of one person's brilliance obliterating everyone else and effectively going it alone... we did have group think stuff that included different ability ranges but those tended to be social projects rather than learning ones ( like tutor groups organising some event or other)
this kind of meritocratic thing seems to have become anathema to most schools and so group projects are often of little to no benefit to the majority, fixing this should be of primary concern but it fly's in the face of equality of outcomes...
however there are still things you can learn on an individual basis, one of which is how to manage or lead those of lesser ability, how to cajole the best out of difficult or struggling individuals regardless of your personal capabilities, i mean theres no reason to make someone feel worthless just becasue there dumber than a stump, so even in the current social climate you can glean valuable life lessons from crass stupidity... of course if your the brainy one your going to always end up running the show which is of very limited benefit to you or the others.....
but hey thats why cultural Marxism being force fed to students is such a problem, society as a whole loses more than it gains from "equal outcomes"

I always hated group projects. It seemed like either I would end up doing most of the work, or group members would wait until the last minute to turn in their portion of the assignment. To me group assignments seem more like a way to punish good students and reward lazy ones.

Those annoying frustrating group projects you get in high school and college? They prepare you for the same thing when you get a job.

Those annoying frustrating group projects you get in high school and college? They prepare you for the same thing when you get a job. Guess it depends on the job (which should be a citation here), because over the past decade or more of work I have never had to co-op in a group setting. In fact most projects that I was attached to I could finish faster on my own without the endless back & forth circlejerking of unproductive co-workers or classmates, which is where being a "bossy twat" comes in handy. Unless of course you enjoy sitting with your thumb up your ass from 2 to possibly 8 hours a day, then by all means. I always hated group projects. It seemed like either I would end up doing most of the work, or group members would wait until the last minute to turn in their portion of the assignment. To me group assignments seem more like a way to punish good students and reward lazy ones. I didn't like them either, unless everyone was fully committed to getting shit done and had their heads in the game (which a good 55-77% of the time they weren't). It became especially excruciating when I had to take away from personal time to meet with these people, who STILL had not read the source materials or had done ANY of the research (no skimming the first few pages does not count as actual research) and I thought "I am going to have to carry this carcass of a study group all the way to the due date on my own shoulders," which I suppose makes Beerfish's comment the more appropriate, although I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten screwed over by their peers either in school or work at least once. What you say is all true but often in a persons career you are forced into the group thing and sooner or later you find you do need other people with some expertise. However I am like you I'd rather do most things on my own, my way.
